Metal Gear: Solid Asset Flip.

It could be a good game if it weren't for everything in the game that is not the core mechanics.

Play the BETA, but I do not recommend purchasing the final product.

Iny my handful of play hours:

* I got into a fist fight with a drunk, and lost
* In my shame, I ran to my mum to bandage my wounds while dodging any possible lecture from my father.
* Saw my village burn. Minor plot point there.
* Paid one of the refugees from my village to fight him. He's a beggar, he needed the money
* Whilst fighting said refugee, I witnessed him fall through the earth and start punching my heels. I wasn't sure what to do at that point, so I reloaded from about 20 minutes back.

It's a good game with a lot of potential. Hopefully the devs can iron out the wrinkles before too long and make this game great!

** TWO MONTHS LATER **

The game seems to run better now. With that in mind, and how fun and engaging the game is, I've flipped my review to a yes. Thank you for the post-release support, Arkane!

** FIRST POST **

Love this game so far, just having issues with the performance. Framerates tend to be sluggish in 1080p on low settings and bumping the presets up to ultra doesn't cause too much of a drop, weirdly enough. The most notable framerate tank occured when on the skiff between the ship and Karnaca in the first mission.

Processor: i7-4790 @ 3.6 GHz
RAM: 16 GB
GPU: 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (MSI)

*EDIT* After some tweaking with the most recent nVidia driver, I finally got the game to run again (it was an issue with GeForce Experience, go figure). I can use some third party software to help stabilize the framerate for the most part, but it still tanks every now and then. Here's to hoping for post-patch stability!

Good things:
* Simplistic design and mechanics.
* Good game for the price.

Bad things:
* Some compatability issues (read below)
* Interface feels a little clunky in certain aspects.
* Some weird little bugs.

Risk-like turn based strategy game set in the Victorian era? Sign me up.

Unfortunately, the game barely handles on my primary computer. I suffer large interface latency; for example, there is a pronounced time-delay between mousing over something and that something being available to be selected. It's annoying to have to wait 5 seconds when I want to do the fundamental tasks of the game, like build armies or move troops. And the combat experience was just awful, because I wasn't sure who was firing and there was lag and frame-drops abound.

This experience drove me to not recommend this game. Almost.

I decided to take a more fair approach, and test the game on my laptop. The game runs fine on my laptop. In fact, the game is quite enjoyable on my laptop. I played it long enough until my laptop overheated and crashed, but that's pretty much my fault for living in a hot environment.

Actual criticisms for the gameplay stem mostly from the interface feeling awkward in certain spots. For example, when accidentally selecting an option for a region such as moving troops, there is no visible way (that I could find) for cancelling that action. Using the escape key works, but that went against my primary intuition.

Also, there is a strange bug when entering values via keyboard for moving troops. It always subtracts one from that value, so when you say to move 50 troops to an area, it only moves 49. For what it's worth, the slider still works fine.

Overall, I will have fun with this game. Its super appealing to me and the game is pretty polished. I'm just hoping for the compatability issues and bugs to be worked out so I can enjoy it on my desktop.

If the devs see this, my desktop is an AMD FX-6120 @3.4 GHz with a nVidia GeForce GT 630 while my laptop is an intel i7 4700 @ 2.4 GHz with a nVidia Geforce GT 750M.
