The DayZ standalone still is one of my most enjoyable games to play, despite what little updates have been added, and the content within. While the promise of vehicles and base-building has not been gaven yet, I have made up for it in exploring the whole map of Chernarus, and finding potential spots for bases that I'll soon be building with my group. Another thing is, is that the game is still playable in a way: finding new loot, trying new crafting recipes, exploring the map, hanging out with friends, meeting new players and helping them in their quest, and just having fun. Currently, I'm one of the many notorious people known as Bandits within DayZ, but I highly discourage KOS (kill on sight) as it doesnt really give me fun sneaking up on or behind people and telling them to surrender. Usually, I like to attack people who have backpacks and at least one visible weapon. Even after that, I let them run off after I unhandcuff them.

If you want to play the game as is; do it. Don't complain like all the other players do because there isnt an update to fix the zombie's naigation, or glitches. However, if you don't want to play it in Alpha, and wait till the game is fully released, then buy it now and wait for the release. I expect it to be very similar to minecraft in which it will increase in price before and after the release.
