Don't know how I haven't gotten around to reviewing this game, but here it goes.

This game is brilliant. I've lost hours of my life trying to grind up my heroes and checking off the bosses after slaying them. I've quit the game for days out of anger only to find myself coming back. I've messed around with dozens of mods only to realize that the Vanilla game is the best experience.

The game is unforgiving and unfair. RNG will screw you over and sometimes your heroes will die and there's nothing you can do about it. And that never bothered me. I understood the risks of sending any given hero or not stocking up on enough healing supplies or food. I understood that if my character is at half health and I'm traversing through a hallway that I haven't scouted there's a real possible chance 4 spiders could appear, dodge all of my attacks, and drop my character to death's door and finish them off in 1 round.

And the reason that never bothered me was because it made every small victory feel like a huge victory. As opposed to the game where your hand is held and you never really feel like you've accomplished something, Darkest Dungeon makes me feel like completing a dungeon quest is something I should be proud of.

If you haven't already played this game, you're seriously missing out. It's an infuriatingly great experience that will make you develop a love-hate relationship with the game.

Love you, Redhook.

Such a great game, especially when played blind. To be completely honest, it had a magical atmosphere. I've never felt such chills and excitement from a game before. The community may make this look like a silly game for kids, but it truly is more. The goofy characters, the emotion and storyline, the replayability, and countless upon countless of secrets.
Some want a sequel, but it's better as a standalone game.
