Up until the Cicero update, I couldn't see myself recommending this game.

If you played before the update and felt the same as I did, I'd recommend giving it another go. I've just plugged half a day into the game and it has definitely improved a great deal. Wouldn't normally write a review for a game but I felt Paradox have successfully turned Imperator around.

Is it perfect? No - there are still a lot of redundant systems that feel like they either affect very little or far, far too much, but at least the mana is (largely) gone. I usually prefer playing CK2 to any other paradox title because of the focus on individuals, and while that isn't present here to a huge degree, something like it is definitely creeping in.

Provinces feel more alive, your court is important, and everything feels more genuine somehow. While I feel sad that ultimately the game will be fixed by more DLC, it's at least getting to where it should be.
