Probably the best shooter [mechanically] I have ever played.

Really makes you FEEL like you are the doom slayer.

Any portrait pack isn't worth it unless it is part of a greater bundle deal.
I got this in one such package but do not recommend it otherwise.

If you are tempted, just look up portait pack mods, they are far higher quality and free.

Decent DLC

-Enclaves are cool and add nice bonuses if you have spare credits lying around.

-Leviathans are an interesting addition, but only worth the tech they give after you fight them once or twice.

-The war in heaven is my least favorite part of this dlc, with the rework of wars you are put in a massive galaxy wide 3-way war which would normally be really cool. The problem arises that you are locked into that war for the long run, the war lasts forever and if you didn't decide to join the anti-awakened fan club then you are out of luck. The AI fights with all the skill and cunning of a potato-clock, often leaving their home worlds un-defended while attacking a size 10 planet with 4 pops on it.

A mediocre dlc now that anomalies are free, I would only get this on sale AND were a fan of stellaris

-L-gates are cool, but far too often are in another civ's borders or really far away, so opening them can be pain.

-Leviathans 2.0 is neat, but nothing to write home about after the first few encounters.

Enjoyable dlc, only worth $20 if you are a huge fan, and $10 if you want a decent expansion

-Adds hiveminds 2.0 to the game in the form of robots. Hive minds struggle a bit with the new stability rework/inability to mesh with trade pacts/megacorp branch offices, so they aren't as amazing as you might think currently.

-Adds a new end game crisis, a nice change of pace that I wish they would so more often, since getting 2-3 flavors of the same final boss gets a bit boring after a while.

-Rise of the machines is neat, but in the current version of the game it is just watching the AI struggle with their toasters that want to kill them, which can be annoying if they are your vassals/federation members. Just address your dishwasher by the proper pronouns and everything will be peachy.

Probably the best dlc, basically does to Stellaris what BNW dlc did to Civ V, makes the end game interesting.

The bad:
-$20 bucks for a 3 year old dlc that is, imo, essential to enjoy the game is kind of a bummer.
-Habitats break the game currently, the AI will spam them which causes massive slow down due to the number of pops and planets the game has to deal with.

Pretty good, but also pretty broken

-Mega corporations add a whole new aspect to the game that is pretty enjoyable, unless you are any form of hivemind, which makes this dlc clash with the Synthetic dawn/Utopia dlcs...

-Ecumenopoli are unbalanced as hell, if you can afford to support them they can outproduce several planets of the same value and hold a much higher capacity for pops. Great for you, but a pain for Gestalt consciousness, since they cannot make them.

-Caravaneers are alright, but often times are more annoying than helpful, stealing pops off your planet with no repercussions (???). At least you can disable them in the settings.

-New megastructures are great, but should have been in the base game imo. The matter decompressor is also fairly broken since you can build multiple, so long as you have the blackholes for it. It is the only megastructure that you can build multiple of, but can't build if you already have one.
~~~Build a matter decompressor construction site, destroy your starbase controlling that system, rinse and repeat for other blackholes, then reclaim all of the orphan building sites for more minerals than your empire could spend.
-Galactic slave market is cool, but not anything to write home about, buy pops instead of resources.
-The only ascension perks to note are ecumenopolis (which is pretty insane) and xeno-compatibility, which would destroy your game with so many half breeds they actually added in a setting to disable it in your playthroughs.
A 58% user rate is there for a reason. I personally like a lot of the dlc, but it also adds a lot of annoying/unbalanced junk for $20. The fact that playing a hive mind nullifies a lot of the dlc also detracts from the enjoyment.
Amazing dlc if you like stories. Relics are a strong in-game bonus, but the short stories sold me.
Unraveling a mystery chapter by chapter, with different outcomes for different play-throughs really adds a ton of replayability to the game.
The problem is that you can be stiffed on decent relics, and there are few ways to get more once all the dig sites are discovered. If you are unlucky you can sometimes only get 1 relic in your empire's borders, maybe even 0 if you get the baol and the other dig sites are in another empire's borders.
----------------Stealing relics wargoal would solve a lot of problems people find with this dlc.
Edit: A modder added a relic to find current relics in the game and added a wargoal to steal them from their empires, take notes Paradox
Dlc is alright
-Federation rework is amazing, but federations pre-rework were garbage, so not a great comparison. Hands down the best part of the dlc, but the rest is a disappointment. DLC is worth it on the federation rework alone if you enjoy vassals/political
intrigue [still recommend it on sale though].
-The galactic community saps most of the joy out of the dlc: forced bureaucracy with AI that votes for things on a whim. There are hundreds of examples in the community that show how bad the AI is, often voting for things that actively would be against their interests, or wanting to repealing a law *they voted to enact less than a year ago*. Certain resolutions can completely cripple your empire, and since there are so many resolutions going through the pipe it is constant micromanagement.
-New origins are neat, not much to say besides giving different starting scenarios.
-The juggernaut is cool, but barely the be-all-end-all that the trailer would have you think it is. It is the strongest ship in the game but it is also;
~~Slow as hell, you can't customize it with speed boosters so it lags behind, plus the ship AI breaks if you have anything follow the juggernaut
~~Can't join a fleet, so it can be picked off if rng says that is the thing the AI wants to target
~~Worth only about the same power as that many alloys in battleships/titans
~~Mobile base would be cool, if you couldn't cap enemy star bases to heal mid-war to begin with
The trailer is amazing.
The gameplay is less than Stellar. *badunchh*
The dlc is lackluster;
-Colossi are cool besides the **massive** debuffs to all diplomacy, making using your *end game/ascension perk sink/alloy-debt-inducer* an easy way to have every person, even xenophobes, hate you. I never waste an ascension point on it: deleting a planet is cool, but you can just invade it an move everyone off it with resettlement.
~~~Example: Using your jesus-ray to make everyone on *1* planet love space-jesus gives a -40 penalty to all factions and *ahem* negative 400 with the faction I used it on [which was a fanatic spiritualist] which isnt even a planet cracker/neutron sweeper

-Titans are cool, but aren't much of an improvement over the equivalent alloys in battleships, sure their T-class weapon is cool and the buff it gives is nice, but barely a game changer. You can easily find mods that do them, but better.

-I actually like Marauders, they add a bit of spice to the mid game instead of waiting 200 years for fallen empires to wake.

-I like barbaric despoilers civic, but you basically just play a fanatic purifier with diplomatic options, since you have a *base* neg 40 to all relations with it, not counting the multitude of other debuffs other races usually have on militarist/xenophobic/authoritarian.

-Unity ambitions are great, but are in the base game as of late 2018 and barely a selling point.

Edit as of 2024: Just about everything good about this dlc is bad now.
---Crackers still suck outside of aquatics pack, and with the nemesis mechanics fleshed out to absurdity there is absolutely 0 reason to build a cracker, even in an RP setting just nuke the system as a crisis.
---Titans REALLY suck and I just play with NCS mod instead. Titans in base game are such a joke after federations or just with any ship swarm.
---Marauders got neutered, plain and simple. They are ALWAYS raiding other targets when you ask them to raid your rival, which was 90% of the reason I liked them, with the other 10% being the midgame crisis which has fired 0 times in my last 10 games even with 3/3 marauders active.
---Despoilers WERE cool until they adjusted fallen empires. Want to play despoiler? NEVER even slightly offend a fallen empire or you will trigger the threshold for war. Synthetic ascension? Permanent war with the spiritualist fallen empire. It is REALLY lame for an already weak mechanic to be punished this hard.
