Solid metroidvania. Looks retro, but plays modern enough. Also liked the switcharoo where Dark Souls is a 3D action adventure game that borrows elements from metroidvania design, this is a metroidvania that borrows elements from Dark Souls design. Oh, and the sound track is phenomenal.

Booted game, set graphics preset to Ultra as one does, loaded in and promptly crashed to desktop. Tried again, this time with the autoset option of the game, and everything worked fine.

After 5 hours of play, this is the closest that any non-From game has come to capturing the magic of Demons Souls and Dark Souls for me. Exploring the game is so fun. You constantly feel slightly lost and alone. There's a certain mystery and intrigue that drives you. The story is told using the world. All hallmarks of a good Souls game in my book.

Game isn't perfect to be sure; the combat feels very slightly off, some of the animations are so-so, the bosses I've seen thus far are more DS2 than DS1, and some areas do suffer from performance issues. Nothing bad enough to even slightly deter me from diving right back in though.

I really liked the original STASIS, and this didn't disappoint.
Like scifi? Like horror? You'll probably like this.

If I had to pick a critique, it would be the difficulty; the game gets rather easy on the medium difficulty but moving over to hard can be pretty frustrating due to the save points being quite few and far between. The game does have a limited resource you can use to manually save anywhere, but since you don't know how rare they are you end up hoarding them and almost always use them only after losing a significant amount of progress due to not wanting to repeat the loss.

Otherwise this is a good metroidvania with a good amount of content. Storytelling and world building are very souls-esque, where the game will drop bits and pieces of lore and it's the players job to string it all together. While the story and world are nothing revolutionary, they are solid and interesting. Exploration is rewarding. Combat is fluent and works well.

Strong 8/10 in my books.

Clearly made by people who just want to make games to make the players enjoy themselves, a true labor of love. You should try it.

While this is a really good game on its own, it's also the best Resident Evil game since 1 & 2.
Not many games manage to return to their roots while also reinventing the game so radically.
