THE GOOD: This game is absolutely a piece of art. The name of the game itself is enough to tell you how it feels to play, and the sound track that will simply leave you sitting there in awe. With those two powers combined (and a little magic from the GZDoom Engine) it will make you immersed, which is kinda crazy when you realize it is nothing but 2d sprites for 75% of what you see. The world building feels as if you were traversing ruined buildings that are being upkeeped to the best a person who only knows how to survive as best as they can could (if upkeeped at all).

Game play is fun and interesting. Items are scattered and in little areas that may be hard to reach, like Doom. There is AN anomaly and combat is easily do or die, like STALKER (only one anomaly so far, and all you have to do is not look in the sky or use snow goggles which are gotten a bit late and almost useless). Bartering is mostly done with bullets (and resources), like METRO. Surprisingly, I've heard a lot about being "40 minute game worth $20" and I think it's a little silly. If you explore all the nooks and crannies and environment it is at least an hour and a half (sounds of slow copium I know).

THE BAD: It's the GZDoom Engine, so it's not like it won't feel a little dated, yet nostalgic at the same time. AI is kinda funny, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Usable resources are either plentiful or barely ever present, I swear I found so much cold coffee and buckshot compared to 5.56 or revolver ammo. I played the demo back when I believe it was the Steam fall event (I pray that was the right time) and it feels as if the locations, amount of items, and scarcity have been changed but I believe I have gone full Alzheimer's and refuse to believe it is the same.

Parkour is kind of clunky with the movement how it is. Making long jumps can possibly have you slide when you land making you fall. Crouch jumping is everywhere, but I swear if it wasn't the hardest part about this game. Every sprite has a little hitbox, which is normal, but it makes you feel like you're tripping when you touch a can while running and grabbing things.

THE UGLY: This game is still in development. The advanced settings are humongous and way too in depth for your average gamer (or a high ♥♥♥♥♥♥ such as I). The story isn't the most fleshed out currently, starting us with returning home from a mission, then cutting to us accepting the mission. There is a bug where when we are home (technically prologue, after starting the actual game) where you can loot everything within your base area, then head the opposite direction of where you are supposed to go (the brick tower) and do whatever you want or loot there, then return home. This will cause EVERYTHING to respawn, including guns, ammo, etc. I'm sure you could repeat this process and get maximum carry capacity of items.

There is NO discernible distinction visually between friend or foe, which can cause your first play-through to be saving before entering a room and seeing if you get shot. I seriously think dialogue is busted in a large portion of the game. Whole lines of talking are just not appearing for me and causing me to talk to a bunch of mutes, understanding their absent gaze like I have some sixth sense. I even think I can't TALK to some people, as in the demo previously you could speak to a nomad who is at the end of a road who was yelling at you about how you can't travel across the road, but in this version of the game I can't even interact with him after he starts yelling at me from 100 meters away.

There is MINIMAL instructions of how mechanics work. Apparently, according to the Steam description you can ♥♥♥♥ your revolver, shoot both shots in your double barrel, AND alter the zoom on your scoped rifle. The game only tells you about the revolver trick. There are no descriptions that I saw in my play time where it tells you the way to regain grayed Health and Stamina bars, which gray Health is removed partially when using Tea in a limited quantity. I still don't know anything about the Stamina. The Steam description also talks about branching dialogue options with characters, but they have no importance whatsoever (doesn't help I don't know what people are saying since they apparently can't talk to my hideous face).

Another gripe of mine? The shotgun is too goated. Semi-decent range and easily can one shot everything in the game. I only wish I realized after almost running out of revolver ammo multiple times because I thought I should reserve the shotgun for emergencies. WAY too much ammo for it too, yet not enough for any other gun.

CONCLUSION: Even after all of the bad things I have said, this game is absolutely worth a grab, more than likely during a sale unless the developer adds more content WHICH I heard they are!

Gameplay: 8.4/10 (nerf shotguns)
Story: 6-7.5/10 (I like the introduction of the story, but the building after is weak)
Sound Design: 8/10
Music: IMO 10/10 { Hedrush | The Trolley Problem (Instrumental Shoegaze) and all of the music made by TETSUO that were used are amazing }
Atmosphere: 9/10 (-1 because of the forest section, not a fan but could be better in a future area)
Movement: Doom Engine/10

Still easily will recommend

It's like STALKER, but top down and many different mechanics, kinda clunky gun play (for the inexperienced such as me), and a pretty small kind of community. So small in fact that if you look up recipes for something other than syringes filled with wolf balls you more than likely won't find anything until you actually find a note from some place or bought it from a guy you probably shouldn't trust the more you read from other characters. And that kind of is what makes it good.

Tunguska is kind of like a hidden gem that wants you to try it but not without dragging you through 13 saves because you refuse to use ammo because it says you get more items if you finish mutants with melee, then proceeds to not give you any resources.

It (for the most part) *requires* you to read the dialogue, it's helpful to learn the story, and you better know the consequences of your actions when it comes to helping people (they all hate each other). From my experience so far, if you find some items near an npc you can just take them with no repercussion. Stealth is kinda funky af, because the AI respond to visual and audio stimuli, but it sometimes doesn't know whether it should respond to it or not. Distracting is difficult because when you throw a rock they either completely ignore it's existence or go "huh" look at it for 2 seconds and go back to doing their thang.

Stash space is limited, but that won't stop me from hoarding! But since it is limited, you need to find a way to remember all of the recipes you find without keeping every single note. Introducing (insert triumphant trumpet), a built in Notes tab under the journal section! You could also just use something like notepad but that's less immersive and kinda cringe ngl.

I said before that you should read dialogue, but another thing to read is the tutorials that pop up. I cannot explain the information I have missed because I skipped some that pop-up. I also failed to realize until looking at the controls for the 3rd time in 20 minutes that you can go back through the tutorial pop-ups by pressing T.

A slightly disappointing thing I have come to realize while writing this (besides the fact this is a 12 page thesis) is that what seems to be a good chunk of additional content is locked behind DLC, which may be relatively cheap considering the game is only 15 bucks (or on sale get it you fools) but is still either $4 or $6. For a broke man such as myself it's kinda crazy but since the game itself is so cheap gotta make money some how.

This review may have 8.7 hours on steam, but it's like 4 of game play because I suck so much, so take what I say with a partial grain (mountain) of salt

Personally, I give this game a 9/10. I loved the atmosphere and visuals of the whole game. Believe it or not, this game made me use my brain, not a whole lot of it but still. As much as I like this game though, it has it's own flaws. Most people would say that Act 1 is great, Act 2 is good, and Act 3 is tedious, and all of this is correct. I've never been a fan of point and click esque games, but this one is great, and if you ever have trouble with finding something to click on, a character even has a skill to use that highlights those things for you.

Even though I praise this game so highly, the combat later on gets tedious. The first ending boss to the first Act is fitting, and is a great fight, even up to it. The second Act just has that same boss copy pasted *right before* the final second Act boss. The boss after that though is still fun in its own way if you could see it. The last Act though, just kind of derails the fun aspect of most of the game, making you go to the same rooms and areas constantly to do things and get items/continue the story. The final boss though, has two phases, with no break in-between. At least in the second Act it gives you one.

Ending is kinda mid, and leaves quite a few holes for questions with absolutely no way to get answers unless they make a second game or dlc. Of course if they did do that, I would buy it, hands down.

Even after bashing it, I still love this game, and would recommend it to anyone who even has the slightest interest in it as they won't be disappointed.

For the amount of time I have put in it makes me want to cry, the gameplay makes it worse, And with the new added feature of "dead hard validation" I can safely say this game this game has stolen everything from me. My money, my family, my love life, everything.

Time for another 1k hours lol

Great game if you have free time. Story can be fast if you try, same with the side quests too. Luckily, there is a "new game+" feature that increases the difficulty atomatically, but will make you remain that the current difficulty that you are currently at. Increasing the difficulty isn't that much of a change from the base mechanics, but Nightmare Mode does make it harder. It can be a bit "grindy" at times if you want to increase your levels, but can be rewarded greatly for doing so. This game may be great, but there is also numerous amounts of bugs, achievment locks, and frame drops in certain areas. Still, I would recommend this lovable broken mess of a game. I only hope that Dying Light 2 will have less of these problems.
