Removes many charming features from the original with replacements that exist just to exist. Details like the 3D file select screen, the butterfly health-bar, talking items, the three quiz minigames, Capital B's commentary while you venture through Hivory Towers, the loading screen tips/quips and many others are missing for practially no reason. The new UI elements feels more at home on the Notion app than in Yooka-Laylee.

The game is made much easier than the original with the option to restore the difficulty available but for no reward, which is also very representative of the mindsets of the people who made it. I don't know how many people who worked on the original are still at Playtonic but an absence is definitely felt.

Many of the new features are not just compatible with the design and progression of the first game which means workarounds need to be put in place which do not make the game any better. The final stage was pretty much gutted because the entire layout was built around flying and special warp tunnels which is made impossible and obsolete because of flying being re-restricted to certain areas like in Banjo-Kazooie and the minimap.

This feels more like a George Lucas'd version of the original than something made for people who actually enjoyed the original. It is definitely not made for newcomers to discover because it gives you all of the moves at the beginning and never explains what they are or how they work.

The best thing that this game did was make people realize that they actually just like the original,
