Too bad steam reviews don't have a "neutral" score, because I don't think this game is bad, but it's a bit disappointing when compared to the original.

It's less immersive, and not only because of the removal of the VR support (which was a big let down for me, since I played the first on VR and it was amazing), but also you are no longer so "alone" as in the first one, which in a way is a nice thing to be able to tell a story, but on the other hand it also takes away from the immersion.

I'd still recommend it if you already played subnautica and are hungry for a bit more even if it's a bit blander, but I'd recommend against it if you haven't played the first, go play the first instead.

One of the most immersive games I've played, it does make you feel like you are alone in an alien planet and the exploration is very satisfying.
If you can, play it on VR, that's how I primarily played it and it was quite the experience.

Early Access Review
It pioneered the genre of haunted house ghost-hunting, and it has kept improving since.. it was quite a journey to see it evolve.
There are many other ghost-hunting games now out there, but this one still feels like the OG.

The game used to work great on Linux & on the deck!
...but they updated the DRM and now it always gives errors when I try to launch it.
So don't be fooled by the "Verified" status, it does not work! (at least for me)

Giving my thumbs up after Nintendo tried to bully them with a lawsuit because of "patented" gameplay.

Looks great so far! don't listen to the ones complaining about the artstyle.. It does grow on you, and I gotta praise how they brought back the IMUSE-style soundtrack transitions, they really made it work.
There's a lot of fan service and little nudges here and there, this is clearly for the fans for the saga. You can collect stamps, usually one on each area that have some trivia questions to test your knowledge about the games (they are easier to find than the specks of dust from Thimbleweed Park though).
One thing I wish they had done is have anm easier way to open the inventory.. like middle click or some keyboard key (if there's one it isn't obvious or easy to reach). But I like that double clicking always speeds up Guybrush movement.

EDIT: Ok, having completed it now, I can say that the ending does feel a bit bland. I was also hoping for it to be a bit longer, or have a bit more meaningful alternative endings.. But it was still fun as a fan of the saga.

The setting and visual style makes this game very interesting. The gameplay is challenging, with some hollow knight / dark souls style loops.

Before Sep 2020 it'd have said: don't get this unless you need the doom2.wad to use with other source ports.
But nowadays this includes:

- A new version of the doom2.wad with several improvements (like Widescreen title/credit/ending pictures, changing the ugly pills to green crosses and bringing back the WolfensteinSS enemies... maybe other nazi references are still missing but they put more thought into the replacements this time and you won't be able to find a better version today, legally).

- A curated list of compatible "Add-ons" (WADs) with also widescreen title screens (See https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Official_add-ons). Note that this is the only legal way right now to obtain a copy of "No Rest of the Living", and the only way you'd get one with widescreen. I'd say this is a must have if you are a WAD collector (it includes also "The Master Levels of Doom" WAD pack).

- A new engine with several improvements over the original (splitscreen multiplayer, DEHACKED support, widescreen, new "Ultra-Violence+" difficulty, customizable controls, usable on game controllers if you are into that, with gyro aim even...). It might not be as good as ZDoom or Eternity, but it's he best official engine by Id Software, definitely better than just running the old DOOM.EXE on DOSBox

- Soundtrack recorded from a real Roland SC-22 from 1991, and you can even take the music files from the game files for your listening pleasure if you want
