Pretty short but worth the price. I like that I didn't feel the need to just leave it running all the time when hitting a wall. Just prestige and do a new run.

It lacks polish and feels tedious instead of addictive.

I didn't realize that items despawned if you didn't pick them up and bottlenecked myself so I'm island hopping like a WWII seaman minus the war crimes

It's a good game, but I don't think it's for everyone. While I did enjoy the first half, I eventually found the backtracking to be a huge slog.

I don't remember the backtracking to be this bad in the few other Metroidvanias I've played. I also felt constantly lost on what to do next.

I enjoyed the demo, but I somewhat regret buying the full release. At least it was really cheap. The AI is awful, and the game is too dependent on controlling a single unit. It seems like people are clearing the game by creating and using a single unit to clear out the map slowly as this prevents your base from getting overrun. There are issues whether or not this is actually the best strategy or if the player base simply can't figure out how to really play the game.

It can take up to 10 years for the A.I. to calculate its next turn, but it still plays faster than the physical version. Also, I'm angry about OOZES.

Early on, I actually enjoyed the core gameplay loop of collecting monsters, running through the dungeon, and fighting the boss.

I started to get frustrated at a few parts in the latter half of the game, especially near the end. I did have a strategy where my monsters had good synergies, but it wasn’t enough for a few fights. I felt like I was being punished for not having a meta enough team or a secondary team that could fill in when my primary was at a disadvantage.

I admit that not wanting to spend the time to experiment or look up a guide led to further frustration, but I did manage to pull through when RNG was in my favor.

For what it’s worth, my team steamrolled most of the last fights including the final boss so it’s not like I was trying to take on Red at Mt. Silver with a level 11 Weedle.

The game overall wasn't worth the time for me. I enjoyed Ys Origin and was planning on playing through the series. But after playing this game, I'd recommend sticking to the titles with hack and slash gameplay.

The combat was novel at first, and it was fun to blast through weak mobs in the field. Some of the bosses were frustrating due to either the bump mechanic and/or boss design.

The final dungeon was a huge slog. I found myself memorizing the layouts due to getting lost and constantly backtracking.

Also, if you're underleveled, you'll be doing very little damage. I hardly did any damage to the temple boss and had to grind mobs outside before tackling it again.

This game is awesome. The sprite art is charming and the music was a pleasant suprise. I was honestly blown away by the first song I heard. Going into the game, I expected myself to only play a couple of classes but ended up enjoying my playthroughs on almost all of them.

As someone who loved Elona but couldn't handle its insanity, One Way Heroics offers a challenge and doesn't force you to have a ranch dedicated to genetically modifying your loli-slaves to progress in the game.

9/10, would buy again and am waiting for sequels.
