A great, player-friendly experience. Extraordinarily well-polished, everything looks and feels great, and you're very rarely left wondering exactly what something means or might do (which is fairly uncommon for card-based games, as they tend to have a TON of mechanics to keep track of).

Definitely expect to spend a while on this one!

A fitting follow-up to the original, modernizing the handful of things that could use it while keeping the core gameplay largely intact.

Still suffers from some of the same issues as the original (relatively thin and basic plot, repetitive and woefully easy bosses, etc) but still remains a fun trip down memory lane for series veterans, or an easy going action RPG romp for newcomers.

Absolute classic, holds up shockingly well over a decade later. The strategies remain juuust deep enough to be engaging while still utterly casual at its core, other than some rather sudden late-game click-fest enemies/bosses.

My only complaint would be the various pet selections, which vary in usefulness from pretty much essential (for maybe about 3-5 of them) to absolutely useless (literally all the rest). The exceptions being the late game unlocks, which easily trump all the standard ones, at the cost of the four "bonus" ones being a heck of a grind.

It feels wrong to complain about though - ultimately, the game oozes charm, the sprites and animations shine, and it remains eminently and enjoyably playable to this day.

This game came out of nowhere for me, and completely blew me away. I was lucky enough to randomly dive into it without getting wrapped up in all its recent hype, so I had zero expectations or even any preconceived notions of the game's structure or genre (both of which are... a bit hard to pin down even after the fact).

From my perspective, this definitely seems like the kind of game in which the less you know going in, the better, but it would be a great experience either way.
