The website for this game has the perfect description, "RimWorld is not designed as a competitive strategy game, but as a story generator. It's not about winning and losing - it's about the drama, tragedy, and comedy that goes on in your colony."

This is very true. I've owned the game for about a year or so and I found myself excitedly telling friends about colonies that had everything and colonies destined for failure. Both scenarios are equally fun. I've never been so engaged in the random story made by this game.

"Inspired by the space western vibe of Firefly, the deep simulation of Dwarf Fortress, and the epic scale of Dune and Warhammer 40,000." Ludeon nailed it here. It can get extremely difficult and fairly vast.

I think one of the most fun aspects of the game is starting a colony in the harshest of conditions. You're forced to make really tough decisions that dramatically impact success. Like eating your dog or enforcing cannibalism or selling the harvested organs and body parts of pirates or prisoners.

This is one of the best and most engaging games I’ve ever played and it’s only getting better.

After release update: Ludeon has to be one of the most engaged developers. Tynan and his team are very aware of the community around this game and have continued to make it better. I will follow them in to hell.
