It's three dollars, when not on sale, for color swaps, not costumes, and some are quite ugly.

When I backed this game, I had a lot of hope. What I wanted: Megaman X, or Megaman Zero, repackaged. New characters, new weapons, new worlds, fast paced action, interesting new story or even a play on an older one. Instead, I got that... transformed.

This game is focused more on Mega Man, the oldest version, but with added dashing and the focus of dashing through enemies. To what purpose? No real purpose, only specific ones give you special bonuses. Instead, it's mostly just for points. And you do it, near constantly, to move at a real rate. Rather than MMX or MMZ, where you could dash jump or dash once in the air, or even dash straight up, you are constantly buzzing forward. It's uninteresting, to say the least, because it limits what ways you can play.

Then, there's the lack of wall kicking. Everytime I hit against a wall, I wanna kick against it, get higher. I want to be able to have a greater freedom of movement that isn't provided at all. Ledge grabbing is the only thing you can do, and it only works on specific ledges, not even every ledge.

While you can spam dash to go fast, the level design is ultimately focused very linearly, horizontally, because the only thing you can do when going up or down is hope you line up a shot. You can't wallkick up or slide down to the right spot to kill something, you can't dash up into the air to get some extra height just for a moment to hit that thing flying just out of your vertical reach otherwise. No, you get none of that. Your movement is heavily restricted.

And the dialogue, it goes on and on. It even instantly assumes you're an infantile tool at the beginning of the game. It tells you the first enemy you see is an enemy, it doesn't even give you the chance to find out on your own.

The game is heavily restricted compared to games from the Megaman X and Megaman Zero series. I didn't back Inafune for older, now defunct, less enthralling gameplay. I backed him for more cutting edge 2D gameplay.

Why is that all so important, that it has to be compared to MMX and MMZ? Freedom of movement is more engaging, you're more allowed to do what you want to have fun, you're more in thought about how to approach something. Mighty No. 9 doesn't even have a very useful power switching setup, but you could swap to everything you needed in MMX and MMZ.

What that translates to is boredom. You are expected to do this, you are expected to do that. You are being led on to play how it was designed, not by your own freedom of choice.

It is boring. Boring, dull, uninspired, and passable.

I'm going to start and say, I love Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, and even Bloodborne. I recommend this game, I do.

But this review addresses everything wrong with the game as a sequel. This is a review for fellow Souls fans.

Dark Souls 3 is, straight up, the easiest Souls game created. Anyone can beat it. Even the most inept of players won't hit a wall, they'll eventually tear through it. The difficulty of this game pales in comparison to Demon's Souls, to Dark Souls, to Dark Souls 2, and to Bloodborne by a massive amount. It's possible even some casual players will find themselves never losing their souls to a second death.

Many enemies, from across the series, come up as a huge wall to players. You learn their movements, and tear through them after putting in the time and work. Trying to work around them can even end in great disaster. The only enemy that really puts up a fight can be the Lotrhic Knights, but not because of their difficulty, because of their damage and that is all. They are defeated without effort: spamming light attacks will keep them staggered. And after that, there are no more hard enemies. Not one in the game. You are set on by nothing but hollows who sluggishly move, and the very rare semi-competent skeletons. Anything much harder.. is solved by a gimmick.

A giant worm that would otherwise be a horrible fight can be killed using a giant ballista. One of the bosses has a weapon specifically for him to kill him fairly quickly, much like the Storm Ruler from Demon's Souls. The hardest bosses (The Dancer, Champion Gundyr) are dispatched with not even well timed rolling and a few hits to their backside.

But worse than that, the levels are not just short, but there's very few.. and most are very, very bland. While Dark Souls 1 was applauded for having a fantastically designed map, all of it interconnected and much of it unique, Dark Souls 2 was somewhat more traditional though still had some connections but was given far more unique locations, such as mining operations, a lava flooded castle, a castle drowned in rain, a quiet lake littered with fireflies and glowing fauna, dark labs, dragon's nests, and then the DLC areas were astounding. Dark Souls 3 is purely linear and only about half the total size of Dark Souls 2, every area was more bland. A somewhat interesting cemetery, a bland not-so-special castle aside from hollows who could only half way become pilgrim butterflies, bland forest with set pieces from DS1 for nostalgia, dull catacombs, a completely dull poison swamp, a lousy prison, a boring revist of Oolacile, a mostly uninteresting library... The most interesting areas of Dark Souls 3 are far from unique, capturing very little of the creativity of DS1 and DS2 with areas like Blighttown, the Painted World of Ariamas, New Londo Ruins, The Gutter, Majula, Shrine of Amana, Dark Chasm of Old, Brume Tower, Eleum Loyce... This isn't even half of the unique locales that were indeed quite enjoyable to look at, and the most unique location Dark Souls 3 has to offer is Kiln of the First Flame, an area that takes all of fifteen seconds to cross.

And part of the world is the characters. While Greirat and Siegward are at least nice to talk to, everyone else is all but forgettable, and you rarely see them still. You don't talk to and regret meeting Lautrec, you don't feel as if you're following along on a grand journey like you did with Solaire (though you do stumble into Siegward just like before), you don't meet a character who asks you to kill -everyone- else, you don't meet some old king who tells you all of his regrets... You just meet people who are interested in selling stuff to you, and the obligatory Patches encounter.

And then there's weapon balance. Much like other games, some weapons are better than others, but this time around, some weapons are leagues better than others compounded by the fact Poise is purely a disabled stat this time around (read again if you need to, Poise does nothing in Dark Souls 3 and has been confirmed as intentional). The Dark Sword, for instance, is a low weight of 4.5, and does a damage per second that completely outclasses nearly every weapon in the game with the correct build. The Spiked Mace can be built in a way that it will one shot players without any sort of parry. And Tower Shields are practically impossible to counter in PvP, and can attack while blocking far more effectively than a spear and shield torgether would be.

On top of the poor weapon balance and Poise removed, invading players are at an extreme disadvantage: with reduced health, halved Estus rounded down, and primarily only invading players with phantoms, each invasion results in one of a few ways: the invader gets greedy and goes to them, and gets stuck fighting two players at once, the invader sits and waits by monsters for the next half hour because the host is too afraid for the odds to be evened despite still having more Estus, the invader finds a gank squad just for killing players already at a disadvantage, or the host doesn't know what they're doing and just runs out wildly and gets himself killed not even by you but some accident or monster.

Or, if you're particularly unlucky, you'll run into a hacker. They take far less damage than they should at their level? They're modded their stats to be much higher without raising their level. They kill you in one hit? A hacker. There is even the ability to turn completely invisible, or fly, alter weapons to work how they want... This is nothing new to Souls, oh no. In DS1, hackers had the ability to instantly curse others with one hit of their weapon, even crash their game or rapid fire Firebombs. This time around, hackers can actually hit you with something that rapidly gives you souls and gets you, the invader, or even the host, banned out of nowhere. The solution to this: manual save backups because there are no cloud saves. The only solution currently. And the hacker problem is much worse than DS2, as Soul Memory made it hard to peg down for hackers where to be in that total to appropriately ♥♥♥♥ over others.. but could get banned if they had more souls than soul memory as a counter.

In short: Dark Souls 3 is the worst game of the Souls series. While people ripped on DS2 for a long time being worse than DS1, DS3 is worse than DS2 by a long shot in size, balance, quality of level design, PvP, and most importantly, difficulty.

It's just too damn easy.

If you like Megaman X, don't buy this game.

Early access or not, the mechanics are far from refined as Megaman X. There's little to no feeling of feedback from everything you do, from shooting people or to even landing. Some sound effects that should exist are completely absent, such as certain enemies being hit by bullets.

The character designs are awful as well. They're unoriginal for one, but also very unappealing. Nina, the blue character, has overly animated hair despite wearing a helmet and giant anime eyes that stick out much more than they should, and her alternate colors, when you're player two and player one is also Nina, are absolutely atrocious.

The second character, whose name I didn't even care to remember, is entirely forgettable. His alternate weapon, a blender, you can find, is shorter range and garbage, where as Nina's is a four way shot which completely destroys bosses. Meaning, this character gets nothing but worse, on top of his hideous design, a weird buzzsaw on a stick that is somehow a sword sometimes and awkwardly fitted on the rest of his body.

There's very few tiles as well. Barely an hour in, and repeating levels became an issue already. The very idea of this being roguelike might be interesting, but then comes severe issues with it. Without speed items, the game is incredibly slow and dull. And if you ever die and lose all your speed buffs, you'll be reminded of how miserable it can be.

This game shouldn't be in Early Access, it feels as thought it's in an alpha state. But some early access games, such as Starbound, end up releasing in an alpha state of their game. In other words, 20XX may never get more refined in its gameplay, and it may never be worth the money you spend on it. Wait for it to release, and ask if it's still bad to the unfortuante who already purchased it. Changes are, they'll still say no.

While immensely fun and an overall great game, its one area for improvement is its lack of online multiplayer.

A must own party game for any Steam goer. Who knows when you'll be asked to play, and when you are, do you really wanna miss out on some good fun with friends?

Innovation isn't always good. It's nice to try, but it's important to test it before marketing it.

The touchpad, or "right thumbstick", can be reduced to a jittering mess very easily. It started to do just this only after two days of usage which made me had to quit using it entirely. The face button placement can also come off as an inconvenience sometimes, as most controllers will have them where the thumbstick currently is. If you've ever played with other controllers (see: your whole life) then you may find some issue in pushing them if the touchpad jitter doesn't scare you off.

The back paddles, on the grips, can also be a bit of an issue. I've found myself squeezing them unintentionally in tense moments. Depending on what they do in specific games, it can end -very- badly.

However, the d-pad and the left thumbstick are very nice.

I cannot give this a passing grade, however. The jitter from the touchpad makes it unusuable.

It's free, and it's lots of fun. It has some slow parts, but overall, it's constantly tongue in cheek with over the top action and over the top 80's nonsense and generally over the top everything and worth a bundle of laughs.

In other words, there's no reason not to watch this.

Do not buy this DLC. It's short and mostly boring. Unless it's on some crazy super sale, don't bother.

This game is not done. It is far from done. And it's not being updated. It hasn't received an update in half a year now. At most, it's gotten something cosmetic, but that's it. But that's still not all. When originally advertised for its closing in to early access release, the game was "almost done."

Here's what you can do in Starbound currently: explore planets and find out how empty they are, dig up ore to make armor to go to new tiers of planets which are equally empty and dead, fight bosses that only have one attack each or are just generic enemies and are visually totally uninspired, enjoy the quality damage balancing as you're one shot in the highest tier armor by enemies on the final tier of planets, admire the diversity of Pokemon styled enemies that only run at you or jump at you and rarely stop moving entirely to try and shoot something at you.

If Chucklefish asks to publish your game, tell them no. Many other games have and are now just seen as Chucklefish games, dev names lost in a limbo often.

Avoid this game at all costs. Get a refund on your card if you've bought this by mistake if Steam won't give you a refund. This game is a confirmed scam and has been reported for fraud multiple times now.
