I recently got into Destiny 2 and while I can recognize that there has been a surplus of questionable (and bad) decisions made by Bungie. The game is an absolute blast, and I'm enjoying every second of it.

I tried a few years back to get into the game on console, but I was too impatient with all of the systems the game was trying to show me, so I ended up dropping it and only recently I got it over the Winter 2025 sale when most of the DLCs were included in a bundle for $8.

This game really does excel at the mindless, fun loop where you can constantly grind and grind for better gear. On top of it, build crafting is amazing and this armor perk system really helps it shine. I actually liked playing this so much that I had the biggest analysis paralysis when it came to choosing between Titan, Hunter, and Warlock.

Don't let the people looking back at a game they played for 10 years now with 2000+ hours scare you, to be truthful, I can see a good half of their negative review being a burnout after committing to the game for so long. Otherwise, I'd really give it a shot, such a fun experience, whether it is solo or with friends.

Updated as of 2/15/2026: I can no longer recommend this game.

Despite the flawed release, I saw potential in what could have been a better product. The initial response gave me the impression that there was a mutual feeling from the leadership behind Highguard. However, they decided to already jump ship by laying off a majority of the team. Now we can assume the "core team" left behind is nothing more than a skeleton crew to beat a dead horse until it likely shuts down by December 2026 / January 2027.

What a way to unironically turn into Concord 2.

I'm going to write an actual review since the majority of the reviews for Highguard are mindlessly reviewbombing.

Highguard is an interesting game, I gave the tutorial as well as a couple of matches a spin and I have mixed thoughts. I'll right now give it a 6.5/10 (with potential to grow) , and my review as of right now hardly makes it a recommendation.

For starters, if you were confused as to what Highguard actually is, it is a 3v3 blend of multiple online shooters. You start the round by reinforcing your base, as do the enemies. You then have a brief looting phase, which lasts until the item to breach the opposing team's base spawns. Once you get the item, push their base, and get through the breaching interval, you are then tasked with sabotaging their generators and defending them for the 40 seconds til they blow. Teams seem to have a set number of lives each phase, but the main goal is to sabotage the enemy base and bring their score down to 0. Now for the review.

The Good
- I can feel the movement systems from Apex very well in this game, and the larger scale battlefields do remind me of Apex in a way that I can appreciate. While Apex definitely nails down the smoothness of the movement, I think there is a good foundation here that can be worked on.

- The people playing matches do seem to follow the game's routine of reinforcing your base, looting together, and trying to stick as a team to get each objective done with.

- The game has ways to unlock in-game cosmetics (warden skins, weapon skins, emotes, etc.) through actually playing the game. (There still is a premium currency, but it is nice to see you can still unlock stuff without having to throw your wallet at a company.)

- The Wardens all look fine. I get having another hero shooter with an art style worried everyone of a Concord 2, but the game only has 8 Heroes/Wardens to start and they all look good. None of them are ridiculously designed that people should be crying "woke."

The Eh
- The loot pool is good in concept, but lacks enough variety to make the execution really unique. This could be good or bad for some people, depends on your preference with these kinds of shooters.

- The blending of genres is a little confusing at first, especially for the game's marketing which didn't help. I think there needs to be some tuning for this concept to work potentially very well. Timing on the bomb sabotage, respawning time when your base is being raided, and the time between looting to actually getting the stormbreaker. Some matches feel too quick while others are dull until you actually get to the enemy base.

- Hero roster could've benefitted from having 2-4 more characters on launch. There is some variety now, but I believe having the extra characters would help keep matches interesting and less likely to fall into a meta.

- Some guns feel great and weighted, while others feel a lot like paper. There should be adjustments to some, snipers for starters, to help give them the feel they need.

- The game needs an incentive to keep players active and interested. There is grounds for something that can actually work, especially since the game is not trying to compete with big names like OW, MR, Val, CS, LoL. Aside from the obvious suggestion of more wardens, maps, and weapons. I think the game could really benefit from larger-sized matches like 4v4, 5v5, or 6v6.

The Ugly
- Highguard is in need of performance tweaking already. I'm running on high graphics on a 5060 and getting subpar 60 FPS in gunfights and moments that rely on higher usage of particle effects. Medium only got to about 85 FPS max which is unusual for the standard 100+ FPS that my PC can run on much more demanding games.

- Something needs to be adjusted graphically, I understand art styles, but there is a lot of blur as well as sharp edges that can be hard to look at.

- Servers need to keep up, faced some moments of server lag in-game, was like once or twice, but I still lost gunfights as a result of both and that can be frustrating, especially in a scene like ranked which the game plans to implement.

- Audio placement needs fixing, enemies can be behind you but sound like they are above/below you.

- Minor complaint, but having to press a button to confirm my setting changes instead of automatically applying them or having the pop-up to ask me if I want to confirm my changes is a little annoying. Nothing worth crying over though.

Great strategy game. The customization for more simple battles or insane, large-scale wars across multiple planet fronts is there. Definitely would be more enjoyable with friends, but even solo the battles can get really interesting. Seems like the game is no longer being supported, but I think it did what it needed to during its run and I would consider picking it up on a sale.

Was looking for a game to scratch the itch of an extraction shooter without all the toxicity of modern day PVP. Sulfur was that game I needed. It interestingly plays similar to a roguelike and dungeon crawler, but the extraction elements come into play by the inventory system, extraction through your charged amulet (which you have to recharge, it is not always available.), as well as the system of losing all your carried items when you die.

The game performs fantastically, if you're a Steam Deck user this is a must have as I'm running max graphics, 90 FPS, and still have over 3 hours of battery life.

The game has a unique art style that it executes very well, I find the enemies to be interesting to look at and I think where this game truly shines is the buildcrafting. After a few runs I was already able to make some interestingly good guns, but that doesn't mean the game is incredibly easy. There is a surprising level of difficulty to this game and you will be punished for carelessly running head on into crowds or for falling off ledges.

I hope to see this game get more content and maybe an improvement on the modding scene over on Nexus. There's a lot of potential for this title and I'm gonna go on to grind this one out for a while.

Left 4 Dead (1) was the first game I had ever played in my childhood and it was on my Uncle's Xbox 360.

Then Valve went and dropped an amazing sequel, Left 4 Dead 2.

This game became my childhood, and I bonded a lot with my sibling, and my past online buddies because of this masterpiece.

Thank you for being made.

Absolutely loving this game, from the art style to the tough yet addicting grind... this game has me HOOKED.

On top of that, the game is getting good support and I'm excited for what the devs cook with next.

Unless you play DarkRP...

Roboquest is definitely within my top 3 roguelikes that I have played. Everything about this game just feels amazing, from the unique art style to the surplus of satisfying weapons and upgrades, I always find myself getting sucked into this game.

One of the things I will say is this game is phenomenal for being something to do while just listening to music on spotify, casually chatting with your friends, just trying to relax, etc.

Would definitely suggest you purchase Roboquest.

If you haven't gotten Risk of Rain 2, you better be asking yourself why

This is by far one of my (personal) favorite action roguelikes and I find it to be so addicting.

The game goes from slow and peaceful to pure insanity within like 5 minutes.

Very fun to play with friends, a lot of incentive to try out characters, artifacts, builds, grind for abilities, etc.

Also has a great modding scene, tons of content mods that add just about everything within the game.

Would HIGHLY suggest you buy Risk of Rain 2.
