Fun, unique, when it works it’s a blast…but $60? No.. not at that price. If you want it, get it on sale only.

Wish Steam gave the option for a mixed review. Honestly, there is fun to be had; but that is overshadowed by weird bugs and lack of optimization.

Some issues seem like the developers forgot or didn’t think through how their systems work; In a quick battle my buddy had DLCs activated that I didn’t have, instead of an error message saying there was incompatible versions, we were able to pick units and place them meticulously for the fight... Crashed every time until my friend realized he was picking units from a DLC I didn’t own. No error message explaining the issue or a warning.

When I first purchased the game I had to search through forums on how to optimize the game through the NVIDEA control panel, so I could actually read the ingame menus that were so pixelated I had to squint to read them.

It’s a love hate relationship, when it DOES work, it’s unique and a blast to play; but requires the patience of a saint to wade through issues that seem like an afterthought from the devs.

Battlefront also releases new versions (upgrades) every now and then. If your friend bought it on the battlefront’s by site, they will have to buy that upgrade to match you version so you can play.

$60? No.. not at that price. If you want it, get it on sale only.

After a few hours of play, I got to say I’m impressed. I’ll break it down below:

Campaign:

You can jump in with difficulty settings ranging from trainee-elite or break down the difficulty to what you want with custom settings. Ranging from how much supply you and the ai get per turn, to how much damage units take.

There is workshop support which is nice.

Battles:
Aircraft, Siege artillery, MG nests, Gas, Underground explosives, air balloons, infantry ranging from conscripts to elite, it’s all here and more. The intuitive trench system is complete with communication trenches and different levels of firing trenches that can be upgraded with tech.

I get what people are saying about pathfinding but it makes since in this context. Units have a weight to their movement, and can’t react as fast as you would like. That means decisions have consequences, you have to think before you act. Chess not checkers.

Supply/Gold Economy:

Simple but effective economy system represents the build ups before a big push, if you attack before your ready you will feel pain, for the first time in an RTS that I’ve played, battles aren’t necessarily lost or won but become stalemates; where no ground was gained but casualties were many. This means building up supply in a region is a must and careful planning is a must. Again chess not checkers.

Good represents the ability to buy special units like planes, tanks, siege artillery and supply reserves. It’s also used to replace losses after a battle. So even if a battle is a stalemate; you can hurt the enemies economy by inflicting more casualties therefore losing more gold for replacements.

There is a lot here for a unique experience, honestly, it’s a breadth of fresh air. Glad to see a conflict that usually is ignored is getting some recognition.

Would like to see the Eastern front in a DLC or the balkans, or the Middle East campaigns.
