This is a great game.
The controls are very responsive and the various characters are fun and feel different.
There is a ton of content, enemies and meta-progression for those who want to spend hundred of hours with the game.
I personally don't like the way they've handled some aspects of the post-game difficulty grind, so I'll probably stop playing it soon, but I've really enjoyed my time with the game and there's even more content planned!

This is a mild recommendation. The game is fine but feels a little unfinished.

I quite enjoyed my first few runs, but after winning my first 3 runs, I realized I had already completed the story of the game and what was left was grinding meta-progression in order to grind a make-your-own difficulty system.

While I enjoy a Hades-like Heat system, I prefer it when it arrives late, not after 2 hours of playtime.

I was also a bit disappointed to see that the meta-progression does not unlock any more cards. After 4 runs I now feel like I've already seen most of the strategies that there are to see in the game.

All in all it's a fun game for a little bit, but it fell off quite quickly for me.

One of the most enjoyable game of this genre I've played recently.
It's not perfect, but what it does right, it does extremely right.
I particularly enjoy the characters. There is a lot of thought that was put into each kit and there is a very high level of mastery to achieve with each character. This game is hard, and it will ask you to play very well!
The controls are extremely smooth and responsive. There is a good amount of enemy variety although I think the game could use a little bit more variety during a run. For example, there are 3 areas, each with one boss. The game could do with area variants and more bosses.

Still a clear recommendation from me, but be careful as it's a difficult game and you can't méta-progress your way to a victory.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this DLC. While I absolutely love Outer Wilds and it's among my favorite game ever, I didn't enjoy the DLC and couldn't even bring myself to finish it.

The DLC does away with the majority of the main game's core mechanics. It replaces them with tedious stealth segments that feel completely out of place and work very poorly with the game's loop timer. The new location does have a few "wow" moments, but those are soon forgotten as you realize how limited the location is in terms of navigation.

One of my favorite game ever, can't believe I didn't leave a review for this. I recommend this game to everyone but unfortunately for this review, the game is a lot better if you go in blind. Just trust what everyone says and play this game!

I enjoyed this game but the fantasy of focusing only on the healing portion of the game quickly fades as you have to equip your healer with items that boost your other party member's stats and make sure that their damage output is as good as possible.
Similarly, your talent "builds" will determine which healing spells you will end up using, but your main concern when making a new build is how much damage output it can dish out.
There are additional notes on balance, which can feel wonky. (Very often you're either way too strong or way too weak for a fight, so your skill doesn't matter. Also, many items and talents are "traps" and not actually viable.)
Overall though, it's a fun game. There are a lot of combos to try out and variations on how to heal your team and how to dish out damage. For my personal preference, I would have enjoyed the game more if I had a lot less input on the rest of my team and instead had to focus solely on my healer when choosing my builds.
The highlight of the game in my opinion was really the moment-to-moment combat gameplay during fights that were of an appropriate difficulty level for your team (unfortunately a minority of fights). You have to carefully manage a lot of spells, you have to keep your mana high, and every fight has one or more unique mechanics that you need to keep in mind.
It's also fairly short. I was able to finish the game in about 10-12 hours. There are a few other modes afterwards, I might give them a try later.

This game is interesting. It's a slightly different take on the Horde Survival genre. You have a little bit more control over your character and its skills than other games in this genre, although you'll want to keep most on autocast.
The moment-to-moment gameplay is quite fun. The game runs smoothly for the most part. The graphics are simple but they get the job done and the overall esthetic is quite pleasant. The spells are fun and satisfying, and pulling off a good build feels amazing.

On the other hand, the game does feel like it released a bit early:
- The bosses all use the same models (but they do have different abilities)
- Enemy variety is low
- Spell variety isn't bad, but could be better
- There is only one stage and it's very static
- Balance is a bit all over the place
- Replayability is low
- Difficulty is a bit underwhelming: you can power up your hero immensely through the meta-progression, but the game's difficulty struggles to match this, even at the highest difficulty, meaning that you can meta-progress the fun out of the game.

While these are a lot of negative points, the game itself is quite fun and it's only 3$, so at that price it does get my recommendation, you can easily get 5 to 20 hours of fun out of it.

It's also a great starting point. I could easily see a few updates fix most of the issues that I've had with the game! Can't wait to follow its development.

It's a great game! Lots of replayability, very high skill ceiling. After 30+ hours I'm still far from having finished a run because of how hard it is. It certainly takes a lot of inspiration from some of the more "pure" roguelikes, but having an action-based gameplay brings it to the modern era.
While it is certainly difficult, the difficulty curve was very pleasant to me. For example, there are a lot of spikes and traps that will kill you in one hit in the first area of the game. These are less common or even absent from later areas in the game, meaning that those one-hit-kills happen, for the most part, very early in a run.
The controls are tight and responsive, and the enemies are mostly easy to read (but not necessarily easy to avoid!), making the game tough but fair.

Never have I seen a game completely revamp all of its system so many times. Go ahead, read this game's patch notes. It's truly amazing to see a team of devs so ready to accept that some core systems of their game just aren't that great, and to take the time to revamp them and make sure that they're the best they can be.
I still haven't played this game all that much all things considered (although considering that the runs are very short, 5 hours does mean quite a lot of runs), but every time I boot it back up I'm impressed by how much better the game is compared to the last time. Admittedly, this does mean that the amount of content present in the game isn't increasing all that fast compared to some other EA titles, but I'd definitely take this over any game that rushes out to the finish line and never takes the time to actually make sure that all of their systems are good, fun and balanced.
Good job to the dev team on this game. It's one heck of a roguelite shooter!

It's a weird one for sure. There's a great ambiance throughout. The monsters are weird and freaky and scary. There's a large variety of effects and items you can combine to build your mage every run.
I get why people would complain about the controls, since they're different, but I wouldn't call them "bad". They're responsive, they do what you expect them to, and you can definitely get to control your mage with finesse once you get the hang of it.
It's definitely not perfect though. There are a lot of balance issues in my opinion. The game feels like it's missing some items (why is there a hat for every element except 2?). Some of the spell-rings feel really bad to use in comparison to others. The classes are a bit weird (some of them really don't do much), and you can't fully choose which class you get at the beginning of a run. Some of the effects don't scale at all, like Poison and Burn. For example, Burn deals 3 damage a few times to enemies (per burning body part). It deals the same 3 damage when you start the run and enemies have 200 health, as when bosses have 20'000 health at the end of the game, becoming completely irrelevant. Similarly, the "blood" spells heal you for 1 hp when you land a hit. You start the game at 100 hp, so those spells are great, but towards the end, you can easily have 400+ hp, where they just don't really do anything.
Overall it's a fun game, but I'd rate it something around 7/10. It could easily become a 8 or 9 to me with just a few balance changes though.
