In short, a fast paced shooter improving upon Doom Eternal's combat loop and throwing in Hades' roguelite progression, served with a banger of a soundtrack.

You play as one of four unlockable characters, each with a set of two abilities that run on cooldowns. As you progress through a run, you pick among upgrades for your character and loadout. When you complete a run (or die trying), some of the rewards allow you to unlock permanent upgrades for future runs.

For me a standout mechanic are "neuromods". When you earn one over the course of a run (a very common occurrence), you assign it to one of your abilities to enable the mod's benefits when you use the ability.
First, this encourages the player to use their abilities often so that the neuromod they installed takes effect, to traverse the arena, and to make use of both of their weapons (which can also be upgraded separately). This acts as a carrot to make sure the player is regularly reminded that they should use their full kit, which is something that was lacking in Doom Eternal.
And second, the randomness in which neuromods you encounter in each run's rewards both encourages player creativity to find interesting combinations of abilities and neuromods, and along with the randomized combat encounters makes each run unique.

The game can be somewhat unforgiving especially while you learn the ropes, but each run helps you unlock permanent upgrades (unless you forked over all your upgrade currency to optional NPCs!), and you get a sense of accomplishment as you progress further through the increasingly difficult levels, all while early levels don't feel like a slog at all (looking at you, Doom Eternal).

When you do beat the game's four levels (each containing 5-9 arenas), you can still get more out of the game by unlocking more of the permanent skill tree, trying different approaches or characters, progressing the story through continued successful runs, or through increasing the difficulty, or just stomping through familiar ground!

The overall art direction is very effective at delivering the core experience and it feels like the makers of this game cared about every detail. The arenas are have distinct style but do not get in the way of identifying what's important. The writing successfully provides a self-deriding take on cyberpunk which the voice talent delivers on. The distinct soundtracks will have you jamming in and out of combat.

Overall I would strongly recommend the game! Do try the demo if you're still on the fence!
