Why are reviews mixed? Because day 1 they couldn't handle the amount of people who started playing Hearthstone, but really wanted to play this.

This is the MTG you have wanted to play ever since they began releasing the yearly game series. You build your own decks, and you can earn cards through playing. You can either pay to win or you can earn gold by winning matches against opponents, completing skill quests, or complete quests.

Oh yeah, did I mention is free to play?

After playing this for nine hours... I uninstalled halfway through. When I buy a new game, I usually get sucked in to the chagrin of my friends and family. This game makes me want to quit every time I go into a load screen.

At least I got it on sale.

Alright, I'm gonna start with the negatives (actual ones, not just release date ones) on this one:
(1) Dated game. This game was developed 3-5 years ago (fact check for me if you want), and so the graphics reflect that. The game mechanics are mired in Source SDK 2006 (8 years old). I stopped playing at least 4 years ago because the community for it started dying after it became apparent that it was going nowhere.
(2) Slow paced. Yes, recons (one class the player may choose) can speed hop across the map with the right timing, but for the most part, this game is meant to be slower paced than your typical game of CS: Source or Global Offensive. The slower pace can throw you off if you are used to faster paced 2 minute games.
(3) Maps are confusing as hell. If this is your first time playing this game, I will agree that the maps are confusing as all hell. You can never tell what are the entry points because there is no map you can pull out over your HUD like most other FPS games.
(4) Present lack of support. There is one dev coding for this right now as the rest of the team have left the building and moved onto other projects (i.e., Contagion). But kudos to Pushbak for staying the course.

Addressing some of the other reviews:
(1) Not enough servers. A lot of the negative reviews you will see are that there are not enough servers. That was true on release date, because they had not done their marketing for this game to the big server hosters. This problem was resolved promptly. There are now quite a few servers.
(2) Lack of tactics. This problem tends to be more due to the people who come into this game in the first place. On the HUD, there are indicators asking you to join a squad, which helps to aid in the "tactical" feeling. Secondly, use of the mic is extremely helpful since the ghost mechanic (sort of a like a flag), allows you to see where all your enemies are within range. That being said, a good ghost capturer will use their mic to identify roughly where the opposition are.
(3) Damage and Physics. I don't know what one of the reviewers was playing, but C4 definitely does more damage than a knife. Distance of an explosion affects how much damage you take (like a nade in any other game). Grenade physics work the way they do because you are a cyborg. It thus stands to reason you can throw grenades better than a pro quarterback.
(4) Lack of Education. This is a half truth. This game does educate you at every spawn time if you load up early. They provide little cards that educate you on how a game works. That being said, you can always visit their website www.neotokyohq.com for a quick how-to.

So NOW the positives:
(1) The Price. I'm going to start with the easy one on the get go. It's a free mod. At the end of the day, you download it, try it out for a few days. If it doesn't work, you can put it away.
(2) Most Maps Support Large Scale Play. Granted, there are also maps that are tiny and shouldn't host more than 20 people on it at a time. Most maps, support slow paced movement up field to achieve an objective. Do recons spoil the slow pace, a bit. But with their low health, they are easily killed or dealt with by supports or assaults.
(3) Class selection. There are three classes that each fulfill different roles in a game. Without writing a whole guide about it, they can be classified as such: (A) Recons - Fast, low health; (B) Support - Slow, armored plus big guns; (C) Assault - somewhere in between.
(4) Thermoptic Cloaking. This particular ability granted to Recon and Assault classes allows for temporary partial invisibility. While you can still be seen somewhat or detected by the vision abilities of the Assault or Support classes, it is a crucial ability that may count in a head-to-head firefight or getting around the field undetected.
(5) Ranking System. On each game (or each map round), players rank up based on whether their team wins, kills, and achieveing the objective. This rank up system grants players with access to new guns. At the end of a map, all of this resets and players start again. I find this to be fairer than money, because eventually all players can get access, at the very least, to the second class of weapons for each class. Ranks count across the board, so you can rank up as a recon, and take advantage of a support's high ranks later.
(6) Positional swapping per round. You don't always spawn in the same place, so no one side can get an advantage except that based on the skill of the teammates (or the teamwork).
(7) Dated, but still good looking textures. Even though it is an older game in terms of visual design, many of the maps still look pretty good. The characters could do with an HD makeover.
(8) Variety! As I discussed above, there are three classes. Each fulfills their own roles in any particular team. Do people pick recon a lot? Yes, absolutely! People pick them because they are easiest to learn and work with for folks who play fast paced FPS games.

I'm not saying this is the perfect game, but it is a good one to break the monotony of a lot of cookie cutter FPS games out there. The learning curve is steep because of the game design and mechanics, but it is not impossible to learn. This game mostly rewards skill, cunning or patience. A good server that is well regulated by admins keeps the game fun. 7/10.

This is a short game. A real short game. So if that will deter you from this pricey purchase, then wait for a sale.

However, if price and length of the game don't matter to you, then you are a true South Park fan! While all the gags and jokes are focused around the "Skyrim/LOTR" RPG the boys made for themselves, you still get to experience all the zany and annoying crap that happens in South Park. Without spoiling the whole game's plot, you will want to wander around and do all the side quests in one run through to get your energy's worth. There isn't much replayability value after you've completed the game, except maybe a year or two down the road.

Think about it this way, South Park: Stick of Truth is like watching a better version of the original movie, and because it's longer than an episode, you get more developed jokes. Also, Canada is hilariously dangerous.

I have a particular love of the Lego franchise of games. They are not serious, easy to approach for all ages and levels of gamers, have a great mechanic that doesn't take the game too seriously, and actually manages to tell a decent story.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes is no different! If you are a fan of the Marvel universe and love Legos, this is your game. The voice acting is done very well, and fit the characters. Hulk even sounds like the Hulk from the 90s cartoon series. While it does take a certain amount of time to get to, flying around as Iron Man or webslinging as Spiderman in a Lego NYC is pretty fun.

The fact that it is the type of game that is half serious lore and half lego whackiness (i.e., you fall the pieces) makes it a good buy for anybody.

A funny, albeit short platformer with great character art. The level designs are great and pretty open for this type of game.

I am hesitant to recommend this game to the general public, but for fans I'd say buy it.

Firstly, there have been some changes to this game which I did like (i.e., the boss fights). However, what makes me hesitant is that this game has a lot of new bugs, I won't speculate where they come from, but seeing as how DX:HR has been out for awhile now, it's mildly unacceptable that these new random bugs have surfaced.

For those who are looking to buy the game, this is not a bad deal because it's essentially a GOTY package that includes the base game, the Missing Link DLC (which they have made part of the game now instead of a separate standalone game), and the bonus items from pre-orders. For those who already own the original DX: HR, it's $5.00 to get better boss fights which actually look and play like they actually put time and effort into making them work (which they do).
