A short, but very enjoyable puzzle game all about decoding and translating fictional languages. While slow and a little annoying to navigate at times, the game more than makes up for it by letting you naturally explore and discover what all the different glyphs mean, how the people from different locations speak (like the difference in their grammar). My favorite part of the entire game was the translation sections of the terminals, trying to re-establish communication between these people, and seeing the differences in their languages so obviously. Warriors calling bards "chosen ones" and devotees "impure ones"; people of the Garden' backwards sentence structure compared to other languages; how people of the Abbey are the only ones who do plural by duplicating the symbol rather than using a separate glyph for plurality. The vocabulary of each language that we come across directly correlating with the culture is also a very nice touch. In general, all these little moments made the languages, as simple as they are, feel a lot more real, like these are actual languages these characters speak.

The entire leadup to the true ending and the ending itself are both very charming, even if quite predictable, but the section where you're stuck in Exile and get to see the difference that the established communication made ("impure ones make music", "brother, idiot bard had found", etc.) is very well done and follows through on the game's themes very well. And the very ending with the glyphs and connections... very fascinating and charming indeed.

Overall, it is not a super challenging or long game, but the experience is very well worth the price, especially if you are someone who enjoys puzzles and/or languages, or if you're just looking for a charming and unique game to spend ~10 hours on. Very much worth the money and time spent.

I randomly stumbled upon this game because of RTGame's playthrough. It's been ~3 weeks since, and I cannot get it out of my head, it's really good. Even though I normally dislike horror, because I'm a coward, Slay the Princess really resonated with me, despite it's gore-y content and despite my (somewhat awkward) introduction to the game.

People who say that you should go blind and not look at anything are 100% correct, the less you know about the game, the better your experience will be. But even if you're someone like me, who ended up watching ~15 hours of playthroughs before giving it a try, I think it's still worth the money. You could know majority of the routes, yet the game will still surprise you, because your choices actually matter.

I really wish I got the chance to play it blind. Don't be me, buy the game and try it out. Experience all the horror, all the confusion, disgust, laughs, and tears. Depending on your choices, you will experience some, or all, of those.

But even if you're somehow like me, even if you're not a horror fan, even if you spoiled the game for yourself, at least consider giving it a try. It's a wonderfully terrifying and soul-crushing experience.
