Really enjoyed Slay the Spire, which is what drew me to this game, but the more I play Monster Slayers, the less I like it.

Whenever you have a card choice to make, you can't access your deck to review what the potential cards combo with. In fact, the UI overall is clumsy and annoying to navigate. Places where you would expect to be able to review stats, the game simply doesn't let you.

Monsters at your level will mow you down in a single turn. It's one thing to get an unlucky draw and not be able to turn it into a win, but to have a monster start its turn and take you down from 120 hp to 2 hp with a burn (dead on your turn before you can play a card), it's frankly just bad design.

The voice over for completing tasks and battles is distracting and sounds like an old school Quake "mega kill" announcer. Those were ridiculous on FPS servers, and definitely don't fit the game here.

The art for the monsters & characters is cute, but overall the game feels like the devs threw it together quickly, then when it turned out to be poorly balanced, they thought, "oh, that's fine, we'll just claim it's rogue-like."

If you like actual rogue-like games, go for Slay the Spire or Darkest Dungeon.
