Aliens: Fireteam Elite sets out to provide a solid, modern third-person shooter placed in the Aliens universe. It does this well.

Grab two friends, go on a bug hunt, level up, make your characters ridiculously overpowered, then do it again.

When you get Demolisher to rank VIII (8), set up Blastwave to obliterate everything around you. Trust me. It's amazing.

There is nothing remarkable about this game, and that's okay. Not every game needs to redefine their genre. Your character as a person is uninteresting, but different combinations of classes + weapons + perks provide a wide variety of play styles.

When the campaign gets boring, try Horde Mode for a while. When Horde Mode gets boring, go back to the campaign for a while. When both get boring, change your class and/or weapons and/or perks.

This game is best played with two friends and voice chat. It's far more fun that way. The lack of Horde Mode maps is the main weak spot for Fireteam.

tl;dr: If you expect a fun but unexceptional modern third-person shooter in the Aliens universe, you will get what you expect. It's only really fun with friends.
