Initially, I was on the fence with SPAZ 2. I enjoyed SPAZ (good story, voice acting, gameplay, humor, etc.), but seeing the videos of SPAZ 2 it seemed like it may have been too big of a departure from the original. Then MINIMAX released a demo... and a few play hours later I owned SPAZ 2.

SPAZ 2 is a different game than SPAZ, and it stands well on its own.

Pros
● You build/expand your ship to fit your playstyle
● Well done story, voiceacting, characters
● Sandbox mode! (configure the game to your liking (within limits), recommended for after you have completed the main campaign)
● While not having the most depth, the fights are entertaining

Cons
● Some mechanics could be described better in-game (e.g., synergies, how the faction/starbase modifier impact parts, firing modes, comparing parts). That, for me at least, took a little time to figure out.
● (Not so much a con, but annoying to me) Unless you have a lot of scrap for custom orders or take over a large portion of the map it is difficult to obtain high-star rated parts (at least in the normal compaign).

An addendum: The VR implmentation is well done. I have mostly played on a flat screen, but bouts with the VIVE were entertaining.

A simple, enjoyable game.
The maximum number of ships you can control is based upon the number (and size) of planets under your control. Conquer more planets, amass more ships. Rinse, repeat.

A great demonstration of what VR can be. Just taking in your surroundings in ambient mode is sublime.
