Dead game, sadly

Got it in the Sept 2019 Humble Choice... didn't play it until 3 years later. I don't usually like roguelike deckbuilders, but I am making an exception for this one.

What a fantastic game; the positive reviews are well deserved.

No matter what the price this game is when you read this review, you are practically robbing the company.

It's hit or miss. I prefer this over Overwatch. Whole lotta furries are into this game, tho...

NOTE: I recommend PLAYING the game. Do NOT spend any real money (at least, not yet) and pay attention to what Wavedash is doing to fix the game.

As someone who is not too interested in all the drama behind this game, I believe that this game is fun, but it needs some things worked on.

A lot of the negative reviews stem from two big issues: the drama between the people who played Project M and Wavedash in regards to being able to work on PM, and the F2P model.

I believe in a couple of weeks, the reviews of this game will go up as there are less people who are mad about PM.

Other than the accusations PM players have made to Wavedash, this company is pretty solid. I've read the tweets and the subreddit. The company is listening to the community and taking steps to make the game better. While this will be good in the future, it ties in with the 2nd problem: the F2P model.

The F2P model, as it stands, really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks. Their loot box system is terribly implemented. They make it near impossible to gain in-game currency so as to not have to spend real money to unlock all characters. We also cannot test the locked characters if we wanted to buy them, resulting in a regrettable purchase if we buy individual characters. Wavedash said they will likely implement a testing feature in the future, so look out for that. But for right now, I would not recommend paying $25 to unlock all current and future characters. It is too soon to judge if that payment is worth it. It is a gamble, and it is one I refuse to make. (NOTE: I persoanlly would like all characters to be free and they make their money off amazing looking cosmetics, but I doubt they will change that.)

As I've said, the gameplay is fun, similar to Super Smash Bros. Melee and Project M. The characters are VERY similar to Nintendo's characters, but there are slight changes to the types of attacks and the strength of the characters. It is hard for me to explain it, but it is a lot of fun to play. There is currently 1v1s online, and up to 4-player local co-op. Ideally they will make a 4-player Free-for-All or teams gamemode online, but that can only be done locally currently.

So if you do get this game, do not buy anything yet. It is fun, and the three characters you get (plus a 4th if you use the 1000 spectra they give you to buy another) are good starters. If the negative reviews turn you away and you don't wnat to get this game, come back and check it out in a few weeks or a month and see if it changed for the better. Read online about what Wavedash is doing to fix their game. It was a rough start, but it is possible that they can turn it around.
