Iris and the Giant
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

Iris and the Giant is a roguelite, turn-based combat, deck-building game. The game is similar to "Slay the Spire" and other rogue-like games, but with a bit of a deeper story. You traverse this imaginary world as Iris, fighting enemies with the cards you pick up along the way. As you die and replay, you gain access to new abilities and more of the story is revealed.

--------

Graphics: 8 / 10

The art-style is immediately noticeable. The game is highly stylised, and there's not real way to describe it. It is well done, although initially, from the screenshots, it looks super cluttered. That feeling quickly fades as you play more of the game. The very strong colours and irregular shapes hit you hard. Even with all that it maintains this sort of minimalistic feel.

--------

Sound: 8 / 10

The soundtrack of the game is also well done, a lot of music is quite mellow and peaceful. The game is also has full voice acted cut-scenes, and the voice-acting itself is pretty great. The combat noises are fine and sound good.

--------

Mechanics: 8 / 10

The bulk of the game-play is fighting enemies on a grid using cards obtained via different methods. You have a set amount of health in the form of "Will", once your will is depleted, you die. You also die if you run out of cards are each card can only be used once before disappearing. Enemies all have one hit-point, though can sometimes have armour that require multiple attacks to get through. Cards all obviously have different effects and can attack in different patterns as well.

As you continue to make your way through each stage, you will gain new abilities through collecting certain things. These abilities are temporary throughout the run but can change your strategy and game-play in diverse ways. You can also collect "Memories" if you find them. These essentially give you a skill point that can be used in a tree which give you permanent abilities. These memories also reveal more of the story to you.

At the end of the each run (when you die). You will get bonuses for your next run depending on how well you've done. You also have the chance to unlock an "imaginary" friend that will accompany you on your future runs and provide other abilities.

Overall, these mechanics work very well together, and invoke that "just one more time!" feeling. The more you play and unlock, the stronger you feel, and the further you get.

The Last Haven
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

Last Haven is a post-apocalyptic city builder with light combat element. At the time of writing; this title is being developed solely by one person and is in early access. You manage a group of survivors, managing their resources and trying to keep them alive.

--------

Graphics: 7 / 10

The graphics are solid and work with the title. There are many different structures to find and build, as well terrain changes. Although some things can look and feel very generic and basic, the day and night cycle, as well seasonal changes can often keep things fresh.

--------

Sound: 6 / 10

The sound is fine, it does it's job well enough. The gun shots do sound and feel right despite being a tad loud, and the building and foraging sound effects work just fine. The background music sort of fades away as you play the game.

--------

Mechanics: 8 / 10

The game is very solid for what it is. It's a good city builder with standard crafting, building and management mechanics. Every so often the player will make choices that affect their colony. There is a research tree that allows the construction of new building with unique effects. There are occasional raids and zombie attacks from the AI that must be dealt with. Trying to survive is the main objective of the game. Making sure you have enough resources is key, though making sure you also have enough defences and military units can also really determine the outcome of your play.

Thanks to the developer for giving me the opportunity to review the title, as well as anyone who took this review into consideration, I hope it helped.

Serin Fate
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

Serin Fate is a pixel-style RPG that draws from other genres such as farming simulators, creature collectors and magic casters. It would more accurately be described as a witch simulator, as you play as a newly appointed witch learning the ropes of magic, chimera collection and home-base management. The game is non-linear and has an open world, allowing the player a lot of freedom.

--------

Graphics: 8 / 10

The pixel-art style of the game works really well. The characters and chimeras are all very unique and have some interesting designs. The game's world is very colourful and moving between different areas as well as night and day cycles keep the visuals quite fresh. The over-world, terrains and different biomes are also well done.

--------

Sound: 7 / 10

The soundtrack of the game is good, and fits the game well. The music and sound effects don't feel repetitive or out of place. Good sound effects overall.

--------

Mechanics: 8 / 10

The game feels like a good mash-up between Stardew Valley, Magicka and one of the many creature catching games out there (i.e. Pokemon). There is a lot to do in this game and it's a very ambitious project, but aside from the controls, it does all these things quite nicely. To cast spells you must input a pattern that then imbues your mouse with that ability until you cancel it. These spells are not just used for combat but for everyday actions such as cutting trees, mining, watering your garden, etc. However, as mentioned earlier, the controls need a bit of tightening up. It does take a little time to get used to the controls, though mastering them is definitely worth it. Crafting, fishing and building are also highlights of this game.

The game does not hold your hand too much after the initial tutorial. This may or may not change on release though currently there is no clear direction for the player to take once cast out into the world. There is a light quest line to help you with learning the mechanics of the game but aside from this, you're mostly on your own doing you're own thing. This leaves the player with figuring out a lot of stuff on their own. There is also a (literal) skill tree involved which allows the player to grow skills and abilities.

--------

The game has a TON of potential and if it continues to gain support, I believe it can progress into a huge indie title.

Thanks to the developer for giving me the opportunity to review the title, as well as anyone who took this review into consideration, I hope it helped.

Omega Labyrinth Life
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

Omega Labyrinth Life is a colourful rouge-lite, mystery-dungeon crawler. You play as an all female cast traversing through dungeons, collecting loot and omega power. The more omega power you collect, the more your breasts grow.

--------

Graphics: 8 / 10

The anime art-style is superb and is probably one of the highlights of this title. There are no real moving scenes but the artist still-shots and CGs are very well done. The characters and scenery are all very colourful. When it comes to the dungeon crawling aspect, the character models become this sort of smaller "chibi" version of themselves, which is fine, though the actual dungeon terrain feels a bit bland. There are different dungeons though they all feel the same with minor changes.

--------

Sound: 7 / 10

The soundtrack of the game is fine, but nothing remarkable, where the sound assets really shine are in the voice acting. The whole game is voice acted in Japanese, and done really well. From the mini-games to the character interactions, the voice actors were really put to work.

--------

Mechanics: 8 / 10

There are two main chunks of the game, one is the farming/hub management aspect and the other is the dungeon crawling. There are also a lot of cute mini games thrown in, though aren't entirely relevant. The game plays similarly to "Pokemon Mystery Dungeon", in a sense that you embark on a journey into a dungeon, you travel through it, fight enemies along the way and return what with you find. The dungeons are randomised (aside from some bits) each time, and if you are knocked out on your adventure, you lose the items you were carrying. Each character has their own upgrade-able skills and abilities you can utilise, though you can only take one extra person with you on each dungeon run. It's worth noting that you can swap a partner mid-dungeon if you discover another one of your characters also roaming the dungeon.

The other part of the game is farming and hub management. Initially these things are very tedious but as you continue to play, you unlock ways to remarkably speed this process up. Although it's possible to play the game by ignoring this whole section, it gives you a lot more benefits and resources used to power up your characters.

The flower farming is very basic. Depending on the seed and liquid you choose to water your plants with, your yield could vary. The items produced by the seeds are used in multiple ways, though the main reason you do this is to get nectar which is a currency used in a lot things, including powering up your character and allowing them to learn new skills and abilities.

The dungeon crawling is very solid, and does it's job well. There could have been more added to give it more of a distinction from other games, but for what it is, it's very well done. The farming aspect is fine, it's not amazing but it's not terrible either. What really brings the game together is the charm and humour that goes along with all these things. The fixation on breasts and the strange mini games involving them. The only negative thing I want point out is that the controls do take a bit to get used to as it is a port from the Nintendo Switch.

RITE
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

RITE is a precision platformer in the same vein as "Super Meat Boy", "Celeste" and other titles within that genre. Each stage has new challenges and obstacles to face.

--------

Graphics: 8 / 10

The art-style is very clean and polished, the pixel art-style is actually quite lovely and everything seems to flow and move very smoothly.

--------

Sound: 8 / 10

The OST by Grand Prize Big Fuzz is wonderful and does add to the experience of the game. The game's sound effects are also good.

--------

Mechanics: 8 / 10

As a precision platformer, the goal of each trial is to get to the end of the stage while avoiding hazards and obstacles. The controls are very simple as it's just a few buttons needed to play the game, though mastering it is what brings the difficulty. That being said, the controls are very tight and feel good. The game moves at a good pace and really gives off that "Just one more try" feeling after dying.

Open Hexagon
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

Open Hexagon is a rhythm game heavily inspired by classic title "Super Hexagon", a title that came our nearly 10 year ago. Although the game bears obvious similarities to the older title, Open Hexagon builds upon it's ancestor's mechanics and gives players a lot more customization in how it plays.

--------

Graphics: 8 / 10

Fast movements, flashing colours, and of course, the hexagons. The graphics were deliberately made this way. For this project's purposes, and for a title named Open Hexagon, what more could you expect? That being said, the game does offer some unique shapes and walls that are very different from the classic hexagon. In addition to this, the fact that game is open source give players the power to change up their environment as they wish.

--------

Sound: 8 / 10

It's not a rhythm game without the music. The game offers wonderful chip-tune tracks to keep players going and pushing through the game. On top of this, the game being customisable means players can add their own soundtracks.

--------

Mechanics: 8 / 10

The game plays very similar to it's predecessor. It's very simple but the challenge comes from the speed and precision of the player versus the level design. Players must rotate left and right in order to avoid walls and make it through to the next layer of the hexagon, if the player hits the wall, they are penalised. The goal is to survive as long as possible. In addition to these basic controls, the player can swap 180 degrees very quickly to avoid incoming walls.

Again, this being customisable allows players to change anything they want. Create their own walls, speed up or slow down stages, and even add new mechanics.

Shady Lewd Cart
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

Shady Lewd Cart is a racing kart style game very reminiscent of the Mario Kart series but with a VERY different R18 twist.

--------

Graphics: 7 / 10

This is probably one of the highlights of the game as a lot of the art pieces will come from different artists forming a sort of collaboration for this game. In addition to that the characters are almost all from different, but familiar media creating a very unique crossover. The original game art isn't too bad as well, though the actual graphics when playing the game are something left to be desired.

--------

Sound: 7 / 10

The game is voice acted and it's not bad. The car racing sounds are fine and the background music for the game and stages are very standard. Nothing amazing but it'll pass.

--------

Mechanics: 7 / 10

The game plays very similarly to Mario Kart. The game seems to focus a lot of drifting, getting that small boost and pushing forward. There's also items, road hazards, ramps and all that good stuff that make for a good kart game. There's a bunch of characters to select, all with different stats (although I'm not sure if the stats matter). The racing is a little more difficult than expected, though there are different difficulty levels to compensate for that.

--------

Thanks to Shady Corner Games for giving me the opportunity to review the title, as well as anyone who took this review into consideration, I hope it helped.

Bullet Girls Phantasia
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

Have you ever wanted to fight hordes of enemies as a small anime girl? Well now you can!

Bullet Girls Phantasia is an Action RPG/Third Person shooter where you can play as multiple characters each with their own unique weapon choice and play-style. You progress through the story by doing missions which are all essentially fighting waves of enemies. In between these missions you can customise your characters with new items and weapons that you can find or buy. There is also a skill tree that allows the player to upgrade each character's abilities.

--------

Graphics: 7 / 10

The anime art style is quite good, though you would expect that from a title like this. All the characters and weapons have different models, and each character has different costumes you can acquire. There are enough different enemy types to keep things interesting. The terrain and battlegrounds could be a little more diverse.

--------

Sound: 7 / 10

The game is fully voice acted and is pretty well done. The music is decent, nothing amazing. The weapon sounds are good and feel like they have the right "weight" behind it.

--------

Mechanics: 6 / 10

Run through a map, shoot up enemies. That's basically it. There are some mini games but the bulk of the game comes from running though missions and killing enemies. Each character has a unique weapon plus two other weapons of your choice to fight with. They each have a special ability that can be activated. The enemy AI is not that bright but there are different difficulty levels to compensate this. The game is quite simple and easy to understand how to play.

I've waited 4,000 years for this game to update, let alone come to Steam.

When this came out 25,000 years ago, I played it for almost a month non-stop.

Many gave up hope 14,000 years ago, and my faith in it did wane, though there was always a part of me that believed.

Fast forward 52,000 years later. Today. It's finally all becoming real.

-----------

Unfortunately, the progression system isn't something I enjoy. I'm still happy it came out but it doesn't feel like the game I played all those years ago.

Will still recommend for the cute style and fun exploration. Though after you finish your first zone you may not want to keep playing. Still a solid 5 - 10 hours of fun
