DreamFly
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

DreamFly is more of an experience than an actual game, which is not a bad thing. The player simulates flying through the sky, gliding through an open scenery.

--------

Graphics: 7 / 10

Since the game is primarily flying around and looking at scenery, the graphics should be one of the focal points of the game. Thankfully the graphics are decent enough and the 3D models look good. They are not overly amazing, but for what it is, it gets the job done and looks fine.

--------

Sound: 6 / 10

The ambient sounds of moving through the wind and flying through the sky are fine.

--------

Mechanics: 6 / 10

The game requires the player to have a VR set and in order to fly (as a bird), the player must move their arms (and controllers) up and down in a specific motion (that of a bird flapping their wings) in order to ascend. The player can then steer themselves by moving their wings up or down as well are their body.

Initially flying, steering, and moving in general is a little difficult, though there is a method to it that does work with some practice.

Thanks to the developers for giving me the opportunity to review the title, as well as anyone who took this review into consideration, I hope it helped.

The Last Train - Definitive Edition
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

The Last Train is a resource management simulation survival game in which you play as the conductor of a train. The game takes place in an alternate reality in which Japan unleashed a vicious attack on America post World War II.

--------

Graphics: 6 / 10

The grim dark tones and colours of the game really set the mood. Especially in contrast to the opening scene (before the apocalyptic events occur). The graphics and style of the game work well with the theme provided and even the portraits of the characters seem to fit in with the style.

There are a lack of animations and overall polish to the art, though it may or may not play into the favour of the theme as art is always subjective. The game is not demanding and should have no problem running on any setup.

--------

Sound: 6 / 10

The soundtrack is fine, it mostly consists of long overbearing tones but it does fit in the with motif of the game, even the sounds and music are grim and give that sense of anxiety. The sound effects are standard and get the job done.

--------

Mechanics: 6 / 10

The game's mechanics are basic but easy to figure out and understand. You as the conductor must travel from city to city picking up and dropping off passengers. Each passenger will reward you with a resource or two after taking them to their destination. These resources are; food, fuel, and other items that can be useful. Each passenger has a certain date they must arrive at their destination by, and there are some choices that the player must make throughout the game regarding the passengers.

While at a station, the player can also choose to scavenge the area with or without any tools they might have. Scavenging can bring in items and resources. There is an inventory limit and passenger limit on the train, though various upgrades (that require resources) can help with these limits.

Throughout the story-mode, every once in awhile you'll come across a story event that'll move the plot forward. You'll get to know more about the situation and your train as well the passengers. The sandbox mode allows the player to try and survive as long as they can and make it to the leader-boards of the game.

Towaga: Among Shadows
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

Towaga: Amoung the Shadows is a wonderfully stylised arcade shooter. It's best described as a twin-stick shooter where (most of the time) the player doesn't actually move around.

--------

Graphics: 9 / 10

The art and graphics are extremely well done. Not only are the animations and cut-scenes amazing, the actual in game graphics are colourful, vibrant, and look like something out of a well-made cartoon. The theme is this sort of fantasy tribe vibe, though the art really helps with nailing that theme.

The graphic artists and animation team could have easily created a television show instead of a game and it would have been successful.

--------

Sound: 7 / 10

The sounds are also quite good, the OST is another thing that is well done and also fits in very well with the theme of the game. The sound effects that come from using abilities and from enemies are also good.

--------

Mechanics: 7 / 10

Towaga is one of those games with very simple mechanics yet still manages to be engaging. For the majority of the game, the player stands in one spot and can not move, the only thing that does move is the beam of light that the player controls. This beam of light can damage and destroy enemies. If the enemies get to close, they can hurt the player, and their life meter drops. When the life meter is depleted the stage is not completed and the player must try again. On top of these mechanics, the player can also use one of 5 abilities as well as spend the game's currency on upgrades.

The player must complete stage after stage with new enemies appearing, each with different abilities, occasional boss fights, and increasing difficulty. At the end of each stage the player is awarded gems that they can spend on upgrades or new clothes (with abilities). New abilities are unlocked as the game progresses.

There is some replay-ability in collectables, and different modes. The game seems to be a decent length. What I can't get over are how impressive the visuals are. Even the action packed fighting trailer was amazing.

Rise of the Foederati
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

Rise of the Foederati is a turn-based tactics combat game based on the Migration Period around mid-5th century AD.

--------

Graphics: 7 / 10

The graphics are pretty good for this style of game. The outfits, armor and weapons all match the sort of style that would be appropriate for that time. The animations are quite good and the character movement is smooth. The battlefield seems to be the same every-time or at least very similar (for the time being).

--------

Sound: 6 / 10

The sound is fine. The current available OST is decent enough and fits within the theme of the title. The combat noises are good.

--------

Mechanics: 7 / 10

It is a turn-based tactics game. You have your war-band, you move, attack, try to defeat the enemy. It's basic, but there's a lot more too it in coming updated. As the game is in early access at the time of writing, there's only quick skirmishes against the AI available. Though eventually there will be loot, inventory management, party management, recruitment, RPG mechanics, etc.

Looking forward to seeing how this game grows.

Tinker Racers
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

Tinker Racers is a top-down racing game. The theme revolves around toy cars racing through common rooms found in a house.

--------

Graphics: 6 / 10

The graphics are solid, nothing amazing but definitely does it job. The theme of the game is; "racing through various rooms of a house." Although the cars themselves look a bit bland, the terrain/rooms and objects inside them are enough to keep things interesting. That being said, the game does a good job of conveying the feeling of being a toy car racing around the house.

--------

Sound: 5 / 10

The sound is fine. The background music is fine, although the tracks tend to get repetitive after awhile. The actually racing noises and collision noises, are again, fine. It doesn't sound bad.

--------

Mechanics: 7 / 10

It's a top down racing game. You control a car trying to beat your opponents. If you're playing a single player campaign, you race through various home spaces against the computer. The object of the game is to try to get so far ahead of the opponent that they disappear from the screen, once that happens you receive one point. You need five points to complete the stage.

You unlock more rooms/tracks as you play though the game. Other than that there doesn't seem to be any sort of progression. The game looks like it was designed for party play with other players.

The Feud: Wild West Tactics
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

The Feud: Wild West Tactics is an XCOM style game with a old wild west setting. The game revolves around a historical feud between the Hatfield and McCoy families. The campaign mode takes you through the story of the feud, while in saga mode the player can build and conquer territory.

--------

Graphics: 7 / 10

The graphic are pretty solid for what they are. The character design is well done and helps with giving each character some personality. The animations could be a little bit smoother and the battle terrain does look a little similar after some time, though other than that, everything works well and within the theme of the game.

--------

Sound: 6 / 10

The background music fits the theme of the game well, though the soundtrack isn't anything too exciting. The weapon and gun sounds are good.

--------

Mechanics: 7 / 10

It's XCOM, but in the wild west. There isn't much more to say. It's a turn-based style game where positioning your character's matter. You can take cover behind or around objects, and have a certain percentage chance to hit an enemy or be hit yourself. There are a variety of missions available and most revolve around killing the opposition.

There is a Saga mode which changes things up a little bit. In this case you're building an empire, managing resources and triggering events (which are usually fights). You can upgrade your territory and recruit units to essentially build an army.

The game might be a bit tricky for newcomers to the genre and the game did feel a bit slow. That being said, it is a solid western experience.

Blacksad: Under the Skin
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

BLACKSAD: Under the Skin is a dark and gritty detective style game. The game is very story driven and littered with quick-time events to keep you on your toes. The game is based on a comic-book of the same name.

--------

Graphics: 9 / 10

The graphic are one of the biggest things this title has to offer. The whole 50's New York style is very well done. The character design and world itself not only looks great; but play very well into the dark theme of the title. The animation and quick time events are also well done.

--------

Sound: 8 / 10

The background music fits the theme of the game incredibly well. The game is fully voice-acted with a great cast of voices.

--------

Mechanics: 7 / 10

There are not a lot of mechanics involved with the game as it is very story driven. You play as John Blacksad a detective. A lot of the time is spent exploring areas and gathering clues and information, which can be pieced together to progress the story.

There are of course very unforgiving quick time events that could wind up with the player dying, so there is some skill involved. That being said, there are checkpoints scattered throughout the game.

One of the unique things about the title is a mode that detective Blacksad can enter that allows him to pick up on more subtle information. Time slows down and the player is able to zero in on details about another character and even take account of their vital signs.

Terrordrome - Reign of the Legends
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

Terrordrome - Reign of the Legends is an arcade-style horror fighting game with a unique concept. The game, like it's prequel, is a tribute to popular urban legends, literature and movies from the horror genre. The main feature of the game is being able to play as characters from these mediums.

--------

Graphics: 7 / 10

The graphics are solid and well done. Everything fits within the horror theme. The dark colours and dim lighting of the battle stages as well as the UI and menus contribute to the overall feel of the game. The characters themselves look good and the whole game itself is very reminiscent of classic Mortal Kombat. Some of the battle effects and combo abilities look quite neat as well.

--------

Sound: 6 / 10

The background music fits the theme of the game with creepy music and sound effects. The combat noises are solid.

--------

Mechanics: 7 / 10

Terrordrome plays like a solid fighting game, with combos and character specials. At the time of writing there are five characters available, and they all seem to play well. There are more fighters planned and the title looks to be heading in a good direction for horror fans.

Last Regiment
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

Last Regiment is a turn-based tactics strategy game with some very interesting lore behind it. You can play as a multitude of units that have their own abilities, as well as construct buildings and summon other units on the battlefield.

--------

Graphics: 7 / 10

The graphics are solid. The character design is really well done, and the full body art of the characters looks like a lot time was placed on creating them. The hex-grid style of the actual game-play is decent and the terrain is varied up enough to not make things feel same-y.

--------

Sound: 6 / 10

The sound track is good, and combat noises are fine, nothing remarkable, but enough to get it's job done.

--------

Mechanics: 7 / 10

The combat is very basic, but solid enough. The combat is turn-based and depending on what tile your unit is on, can affect the turn's outcome. You can construct buildings and summon units to increase your chances of victory. There is a card mechanic involved as well that it is interesting enough.

Fetish Locator Week One - Extended Edition
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game.

Short Review

Fetish Locator is an adult visual novel in which the player takes the role of a young male college student. The game is sort of about exploring fetishes but the main goal of the game is the make choices and gain points in order to proceed.

--------

Graphics: 7 / 10

The graphics are solid. Most of the game are still CG images, though the adult scenes have a bit of animation to them. The reason someone would play this game would be for the CG scenes. This style of CG isn't uncommon though it doesn't mean it still can not be admired.

--------

Sound: 5 / 10

There is some music in the game which is forgettable, though aside from that, there isn't much sound. It is a visual novel so there aren't a lot of opportunities for much sound effects anyways.

--------

Mechanics: 5 / 10

It is a visual novel. You make choices, and depending on your choices, you will see certain events unfold. The game is more heavily focused on it's story and CG scenes.

--------

Thanks to the developer for giving me the opportunity to review the title, as well as anyone who took this review into consideration, I hope it helped.
