Great writing and some of the best voice acting in video games, one of the first couple things I'd point an avid film/literature fan to if I wanted to help them see some of the narrative strengths of interactive media

Great little mod with well-crafted puzzles that feel like a natural extension of the original: no gimmicks with difficult platforming or anything, just brain twisters that are hard to figure out but make perfect sense when you do. My only gripe is that it was occasionally annoying to not be able to write over the green portal, I wish there was a keybind to simply dismiss it. Very good though

Come for the salvia trip memes, stay for the unique imsim action gameplay. Cruelty Squad looks like a meme and a joke, and the game certainly has a wicked sense of humor, but the biggest joke is that they put some really cool gameplay ideas into a game that looks like it does. It's the freedom of approach and large array of tools of Deus Ex combined with the lightspeed neon ultraviolence of Hotline Miami, wrapped up in a crusty jpeg from hell.

Mixolumia has great music and cool hypnotic effects, but there is also a deeply compelling puzzle game under the gloss. It requires invested play, and much like classic NES tetris one bad decision can lead to a cascade of bad decisions it'll be hard to get out of. The satisfying moments of visuals and music are a reward for skilled play, not just a gimme, and combos are not something you can just get easily all the time. What this results in is, when it hits just right, a compound mechanical, visual and aural satisfaction; a platonic ideal of moment to moment game design that I've rarely seen executed this obviously well.

While I've never been one of those dedicated puzzle game masters who can stack up the uber epic combos and I'm sure I'll never come close to the skill ceiling of the game, Mixolumia is scratching an itch that I didn't quite know was there in a very satisfying way.
