As someone who has spent a thousand hours in this game and will continue to spend thousands more, do not buy this game. I was gifted this game and I have still had to spend god knows how much money to have all the killers and survivors. This is a pay to win game at the end of the day. This game is extremely punishing to beginners. If you do not have a group of friends to play with, this game is miserable to try and get into. Not only that, but this game feels like it hates its casual players. It is almost impossible to get anything done if you play this game casually.

The shrine of secrets is an absolute joke, and the grind for iridescent shards (the in-game free currency) is absolutely ridiculous. Until they fix the "pay-to-win" aspect (meta perks hidden behind DLC characters that can't be purchased with iridescent shards) I think this game is not worth it to play, if you're on the fence about it at least. If the entry fee for this game is 20 dollars not on sale, the perks from crossover characters like Pinhead, Jill Valentine, Bubba, literally every licensed character, should be unlockable in some free way. I understand not being able to let everyone have licensed characters for free, but their perks should be attainable somehow. Attainable in a way that doesn't cost thousands of hours of grinding and chance. The Shrine of Secrets is useless because not even every perk is guaranteed to show up there, and waiting a week just for the perks to change again to something you don't need is an absolute pain in the ass.

Come up with a perk shop where every perk is available at any time, and players have to spend their shards wisely. Make it so players get more iridescent shards per match. I have played for almost 1500 hours and I have barely been able to buy any cosmetics with my iridescent shards. It took me about 5 months of casually playing to afford one single purple-rank cosmetic. Just, something needs to be done and changed about this. This game might say it costs 20$, but in reality it costs up to 100$, not including any cosmetics you might want. Trust me, you're gonna wanna buy a skin because who doesn't like customizing their character?

a great way to see some roots of the franchise. it annoys me steam says its from 2017 though
