It depends, you can set resource count when starting the game, 0.5x,1x, 2x, etc. up to "infinite"
So you can play how you want. I play at 3x because it generally last a LONG time, plus you can research improved mining which lowers use of resources. like 1 out produces 3 pieces for example. In Effect 180k Coal would actually give you 540k to use.
