This ♥♥♥♥ ain't no joke. It really does work you out. The enemy boxers are shockingly durable. Usually with these games even the enemies are just punching bags for you to style on, but I swear the old guy in the second fight was learning my patterns. On the first round after landing a hit on him, he'd go to guard that spot, and leave his body or face open. I knocked him down by exploiting this in the second round, but in the third round, he would stop reflexively guarding where I'd hit, and instead counter attack. Barely won, even with the knock down in the 2nd. When I knocked him down I felt a legitimate rush and started taunting my empty living room, and when the fight ended I caught myself feeling respect for this old fart and his endurance. Now THAT'S immersive. I'm scared to get to the higher levels.

The collision detection is excellent, gloves always went where I'd expect them too and guarding felt right. The game is very considerate of the play space and never puts you in a spot where you need to readjust due to something in the game. It always oriented me where I'd have the most space in front of me. Very goodo.

Apparently I've played not even 30 minutes of this game Probably only 6-9 minutes of those 25 were actually in the ring boxing. What fantastic game, this will be very useful for the winter months.

It is Dark Souls with guns. Got your Estus Flask, bonfires, fogwalls for boss rooms, etc. Everything is very grey and washed out, looks gross. Every 10 feet you walk has a cutscene in the beginning. Your character talks and grunts like some action movie hero. The bad men are angry trees to keep things PG-13. Arbitrary stamina bar that is tied to sprinting. Levels are designed to walk from point A to point B. There are dialogue "options"; the "yes" or "yes but sarcastic" kind of options.

Themes and time periods are jumbled together, first you have a longsword on your wooden plank sailboat, encounter a man holding a World War style pistol, go turn on a reactor via a computer, walk through a Fallout-esque city with your Western style rifle in your Fist of the North Start raider outfit to touch the floating red magical glowing totally-not-a-bonfire gem thing.

The first boss fight was alright, at least I almost died. But I'm very turned off be the extreme simplicity of the combat. Your melee weapon does a light and heavy attack, and your guns shoot bullets, nothing more or less. Press F to do more damage for a bit. Space to dodge roll, because this is Dark Souls. You get trait points that just increase your numbers. Everything is controller friendly.

I was expecting a nitty gritty dark fantasy setting. Instead I don't know what the ♥♥♥♥ time period we're working out of and they're trying to hard to make me care about what's going on through cutscene, which is an extremely outdated form of story-telling in video games. You can have your NPCs spout exposition at me while I'm running through your big ass level instead of taking away my control so I can sit through your SFM short. At least you gave me the option to mash spacebar to skip it all I guess.

If I had seen that Perfect World was the publisher I wouldn't of purchased this game in the first place. Really looks like a free to play game the more I think on it. God bless Steam's refund policy.

Shame on Bethesda for doing the absolute bare minimum job of getting Skyrim over to VR, then having the gall to release this game for 60 dollars. They've done a horrible job of utilizing the full potential of VR controls. It's very clunky and frustrating to use. Games like H3VR, Blade&Sorcery, and VOTLVR have done an excellent job of making the VR controls feel natural and appropriate. Controlling this sh*t feels like playing Dota on a Guitar Hero controller. The studios that released those games are not even close to the size and manpower that Bethesda can muster, yet they do it so much better. It's completely counter intuitive and more akin to playing on console. The most frustrating thing is having to control all but one of the menus with the VR analog sticks, instead of the typical point and click option that, oh I don't know, EVERY OTHER DAMN VR GAME HAS. The Map menu HAS THESE POINT AND CLICK FEATURES. They could of done it, but didn't. Typical Bethesda effort. What a surprise. If you are not comfortable with modding, don't bother. It's horrid.

HOWEVER:
If you ARE comfortable with modding Skyrim (come on now it's not that hard), you're gonna have a great time. In my thousands of hours of Oldrim, I've never once stopped to listen to the characters talk, stopped to admire the scenery, or just sat down on a bench in Whiterun to enjoy the music and people. It's the most immersed I've ever been in Skyrim. Skyrim VR is the "Special Edition" version of Skyrim, and MOST mods will work as long as they are from the SE Nexus. Skyrim VR specifically doesn't have a ton of dedicated mods, but there's a great community of people working to make popular SE mods VR compatible.
These mods make the game incredibly fun, and the bare minimum mods you'll need to make this game playable in my opinion:
SkyUI, VR friendly ENB, VRIK to give you gesture activated"hotkeys" holsters and a physical body, Spellsiphon, Ordinator, Onyx VR Weathers with darker nights/interiors options, Enhanced Lights and FX, USEEPatch, SMIM, NoStaggerMod, No Collision Between Actors SSE Edition to work around the stupid dragon collision boxes, and Skyrim VR Config Tool to set bAllowVRCheats=1 to stop your head from pushing you away from the massive collision boxes among other things.

Massive amounts of gore doesn't equal a good game. Most of the positive reviews I see are focused on,"oh wow lol I feel like a killer lol echs dee so much bluuuuddd ha ha veins go spluurrrt".

Movement options are gross and bad. Combat is awkward. Everything feels sort of outdated, like this was the frontier of VR melee combat and now it's painfully old. I discovered I could send the flail weapon into a super sonic whirlwind of death simply by swinging horizontally. Didn't even have to move from the center of the arena. And thank god I didn't have to participate in the combat as intended. I'd love it if I could actually parry an attack, but the extremely rubbery weapons simply bend around any attempt to block, meaning your best bet is to swing wildly while attempting to run forward. The absolutely most frustrating part of this game: once you land a single hit on an enemy they fling themselves away and rag doll out, forcing you to awkwardly run over to their body and try to finish them. It's a chore. Blade and Sorcery does this formula waaaaaaaaaaaay better. And that game has almost zero structure or guidance. Opposite of that, this game felt like it was holding my hand for far too long.

TLDR: I get it, hit men. Let me go hit the men. But hit men no fun, men fly when hit. Weapon bendy and made of foam. Enemy made of rubber. Ketchup everywhere. Me hate ketchup. Me go play different hit men simulator.

Did get a refund though.

Sick game. Saw someone describe this game as very similar to Shadow of the Colossus, and I can't think of anything better to describe it. I loved the boss fights, especially the last one. Fighting/exploring the sky islands is extremely tense. Skrrt'ing around the base island is pretty rad. And the sheer scale of every aspect of the game gives me a little anxiety while playing. I love it. I hope we get a Jet Island 2.

If I had anything bad to say about this game, it's that the unmodified gravity is pretty floaty, and you actually have a hard time sticking to the ground. This gravity "issue" wasn't that bad, but I think I'll use one of the heavier gravity presets next time, so I'm not falling for half a minute. Also, I wish instead of a little blaster gun that we could get a melee option for dealing damage, but for all I know, there could be a modifier I haven't collected yet that does just that. Very minor nags.

Very watered down version of Garry's Mod. The progression in the Survival Mode was pretty frustrating and needlessly drawn out with big open expanses of useless map and painfully long "refining" animations, on top of being confused on what to do next to the point I had to look online to figure out what to do. I was hoping the Farmbots attacking your crops would make for a better base building experience and add a sense of urgency to upgrade ASAP, but I honestly couldn't stomach the slow pacing to get to that point. Soon as I planted my first few crops only to realize that I had forgotten to pick a spot close to one of the designated pools of water, I gave up. I wasn't about to carry 2 buckets of water back and forth on a several 5+ minute one way trips until I had 12 watered crops in the hopes someone would attack me.

Sandbox mode was fun for a minute; building a functioning car that doesn't flip over every 5 seconds was enjoyable, but I can't imagine going through the pain of trying to build it on survival mode. I seem to have lost my patience with this sort of stuff, I don't know. Hard to go from Half-Life Alyx to this, I guess I'm spoiled. Not a fair comparison, I know.

I'm kind of starting to hate these massive barren maps after playing through Alyx, where the maps are small, easily digestible, and have a ton of detail and love put into them. There's no wasted space with it. Everywhere you look there's something to take in and appreciate. I know that's not really a fair comparison, they are completely different games after all. But still, that's how I feel. I'm pretty sure this game is at it's best when you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around in Creative Mode, but that's not my sorta game. Personally I need clear direction and incentive.

Once again, as with every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game under the sun right now, there's certainly a lot of potential here. And maybe after 5 major updates it will be a grand ol' time. But nah, not right now, not for me. It did make me want to go play GMod though.

One of the few games on steam with the "Masterpiece" tag that actually deserves it. It's brilliant. The best adventure and horror game I've played since Subnautica, and certainly earns a spot as one my favorite games of all time. No other game I've ever played has had me more immersed and invested. The only thing I thought was a little weak was the amount of combat. Not the combat itself; there's just way less combat here than other Half-Life games. I wish there was a sort of horde mode after you beat the main game. But I'm still overjoyed that I was able to experience Alyx. I was absolutely giddy while watching the final scene of the game, and I'm sure we'll be getting more VR Half-Life titles after watching what happens. This is Half Life 3 confirmed as far as I'm concerned. Makes me a happy boy.
