Super fun so far. Combat is way more detailed than it needs to be, supports both local and online co-op, and has a bunch of small qol details that a lot of similar games miss out on. Honestly most of the negative reviews sound like they're lonely.

Had fun for basically 99% of the game. The only part that felt like true BS was the last few brutal bosses.

The good is so good but the bad is unbearably terrible. I tried to push past the horrible optimization and disrespectful microtransactions but the story ended up being boring and the amazing combat quickly became stale because of all the repetitive encounters.

10 y/o shooter with hundreds of guns launches with 5 per class, "new ui" that still looks 10 years old, still poopy balance, took out a ton of modes. Really no reason to pick it up right now. Maybe when they finally re-add all the stuff they removed lmao

Super pretty world. Neat story. Amazing detail. Fun progression system. The lock-on system is complete and utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Bite me if you disagree. Detailed, direction input based combat has already been made without the game arbitrarily forcing you to look at one dude when you're getting surrounded or want to run. I haven't beat it at the time of this review and I plan to, but holy ♥♥♥♥ once I do I'm never touching this unfun pile of ♥♥♥♥ again.

Update 36 hrs

Groups seem to love having multiple guys sprint at you at once and you can't do ♥♥♥♥ about it because of the still broken lock-on system. Feels really satisfying to get punished and die multiple times throughout my play through because Henry hyper focuses on one dude without my control. It's not even like the fight itself is hard when my attacks go where I want. It's unfun to lose not because I messed up, but because Henry doesn't look at the right person.

Trust me when I say this, I really, REALLY wanted to like this game. But I can't. I beat the game and I officially hate it even more. For everything the game does great, it does more things bad. And the game does a bunch of things great, so that's saying something. I also don't understand which developer's idea it was to give you certain objectives that you can't even succeed. I also encountered a bug that soft-locked my progression unless I killed the NPC's involved which I didn't want to do, but I had no choice. Lastly, what the hell was that ending? I spent all this time going on this whole adventure for that? It's so ridiculously disappointing I don't think I've ever been this dissatisfied beating a game before like I'm genuinely upset I spent nearly 70 hours doing this. And on top of that I figure I'd continue the main quest after the epilogue and the guy I'm supposed to talk to won't do anything unless I do some romance wingman DLC? Screw off man.

In the end, the game has a lot of love put into it, but I truly can't recommend it and I don't see it getting fixed, even with mods that address my complaints.

The world itself is beautiful. Between the amazing foliage or the global illumination that accurately bounces light around buildings or trees, it's truly stunning. Everything is so thoughtfully recognized and the developers clearly put a lot of work into it's detail, making it feel like one of the most real virtual worlds I've experienced. The game really surprised me when I came across familiar characters dynamically going about their day. It was super impressive to see a knight going to a meeting spot I just told him about, or a priest I asked to visit a town catching up to me when I got stopped by some bandits because I rode off immediately after asking him. Encounters like that made the world feel truly alive. The amount of options you have throughout the experience is surprisingly high and the game rewards you for thinking outside of the box a lot. The armor system is also amazing with the ability to properly layer clothing like I've never seen in a game. The combat it also great, when it works.

But it's marred by a number of things. Unbalanced character progression, where lategame Henry just a literal god, able to surpass his limits as a human. Gear isn't balanced either. Not as in plate making you too tanky, but rather plate not making you tanky enough. The charisma system in it's current state also arbitrarily limits player expression. I shouldn't have to wear only yellow and green pants so people can like me more. The game also has abundant bugs and glitches. Ranging from minor things like certain combinations of gear lettings you see through Henry's arms or neck, to soft-locking broken quests or the occasional physics bug after getting thrown around in combat. And as for the combat, when the combat doesn't work, it's a total slog. It heavily rewards just waiting for enemies and doing a perfect block to masterstrike them. There's really no reason to attack if you're putting yourself at risk of getting masterstriked back. When outnumbered enemies have a habit of just, running into you, messing with your lock-on and disorienting your camera. Oh and why are pole weapons not properly equippable? I'd have loved to get through the game with a bardiche or poleaxe but apparently they're too big for me to store in my inventory despite me also carrying nearly 300 pounds of breastplates taken off of my enemies.

In short, this could have been a way better game. The ideas are there and not bad on their own, but the way they were executed leaved much to be desired. The blueprint is there for a good game. The combination of systems are awesome. Had they balanced it better, improved the story, fixed the jank parts of combat, I would easily recommend it. But as it stands, I can't and it doesn't help that the last moment of me playing this game was me following an NPC after the epilogue in order to do the very last main quest in the entire game, and I can't do it unless I help him woo a woman for a separate DLC questline. I'm disappointed to say the least.

VRChat is a game that is in no way polished, but can still deliver hundreds of hours of 'social' fun talking to strangers from around the world. Hide your insecurities behind a crafty avatar, pretend you have boobs, ERP with a full-body trap idfk, whatever your desires are this game will pull through.
