Just finished Jellyfish fields. Boys and girls pull your wallet out of your pockets because we got a banger right here. This is just as fun as I remembered it back in 04 or 05, Feels super smooth too. Highly recommend.

coming from a fairly casual strategy game player (Really all my experience is Hoi4, civ, AOE,) this game is pretty fun but complex.

The reason why I'm not recommending this game though isn't because I'm a casual or because the game is too complex, the issue is that the devs hide very important QOL changes behind very expensive DLC. Changes that you'd hope that the devs would just add to the main game, they push to DLC to help push sales. I played this game for around 8 hours without the DLC and the experience with the DLC as compared to without it is just night and day.

If you buy this game, buy it when its **very cheap** and look up info on which DLC is important and pick those up too. Some are pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ but there are a few that are basically mandatory. Otherwise you'll probably get stuck paying $5/m for the DLC, which actually isn't bad, but the fact that this game is significantly worse without the dlc its much less of a choice than a demand.

edit: 6/20/21 I've dumped almost 1000 hours into the game on 1.30 and 1.31 added a bunch of cool new features through DLC. Don't buy EU4 anymore. This game is horribly unoptimized. They added too much stuff to the game and the performance suffers greatly because of it. The game just becomes unplayable after 1600 because the framerate even on lower speeds just gets wayyyy too choppy.

It's time for EU5. I don't even really think this game is that worth it to play on older patches simply because of the lack of QOL that has been added throughout the years.

edit 2: 1/19/24. Quite a few years since my last update to this. It runs better than it did the last time I updated my review, quite a bit better in fact. Also the DLC they have added since has been pretty spectacular and added an insane amount of enjoyment to once boring nations. DLC is VERY expensive though, so that almost makes me want to turn it back to no, but I believe paradox has helped the stability of this game a lot while also adding hundreds of hours in gameplay from basically every dlc they add, so that bumps it up to yes for me :)

Combat doesn't feel very fun. Limbs are more likely to stretch when you slice at them rather than cut off, and their body is more likely to stretch instead of the sword piercing them, if you are just looking for a good VR sword based combat sim, this isn't it.

However if you are a fan of games like mount and blade you will probably really enjoy this as it seems like a VR version of it.

By far the best souls-like game I've played. You don't have to play on the highest difficulty settings to enjoy this game though. The story is really good and the game play even in some of the more casual of difficulties is a lot of fun, the only real difference in the difficulties is how much damage you do, how much damage the enemies do, and how close you have to time your blocks to parry.

There is a lot of exploring and collectibles, tons of replayability like most souls likes. Hopefully there will be another one.

Honestly this is a pretty solid VR game but on my 1060 i7 7700k with Oculus it crashes a bit too often. I won't give it a negative review because I did finish it and I really enjoyed the story and the gameplay was actually really good and smooth.

One thing I love in a good VR game is an interactive environment, and was mostly everything in the world is interactive to some extent. One thing I was incredibly disappointed with is that even though you interact with just about everything, you can't use them as weapons and throwing them doesn't really do much which is really disappointing. Beating the ♥♥♥♥ out of a zombie with a metal pipe or throwing a brick at a headcrab and crushing it would have felt really good, and using your environment as a weapon is a feature in other VR games like boneworks.

Another thing I really enjoyed was the horror atmosphere some parts had. None were particularly long, but having a headcrab jump out at you from the dark is just a treat.

On the topic of dark spaces, because of the lack of smooth turning (not even an option??) some of the darker areas got a bit disorienting when I was turning my camera, I would sometimes have issues finding where I was and where I came from just because of the snap turning.

To conclude, I will say, with the ending they gave it seems like they are planning on making a half life 3, I hope they allow for a non VR playstyle and a VR play style. I really enjoyed this on Vr, but it had to take place over multiple days because VR in its current state is just not playable for long periods of time for many people. I played like 6 hours yesterday I think and I can still feel my eyes pulsing. A non VR mode would be most welcome for any future installments of the series.

I've completed this game a few times now, twice on the switch, and once 100% (well technically 98%) on PC. I got the game on the switch, played it non stop for a day, and went to update it and download the DLC and lost my save... for most games I'd probably just give up there, but I was actually kind of happy? Happy that I had the opportunity to experience the game again, and I did.

Then a few days later, I bought it on PC because on the switch the game runs at a pretty poor frame rate and I wanted both DLC's, and was excited once again to play through the game, only this time I questioned why I was so excited to play the game again? Yeah its fun, but a lot of games are fun and I don't see me wanting to restart, but what exactly made this game different?

So many things. For starters the movement is extremely fun and satisfying. You made a mistake? Took a bad jump? Thats ok, the game gives you tools like double jumps and mid air dashes to fix those mistakes, and that makes the game feel less like a grind, something a lot of platformers fail at. And the way these tools fix your mistakes makes you breath a sigh of relief but also makes you feel like you did something really cool.

Boss fights are really fun too, some are pretty long and the first time you do them you may even feel a bit of anxiety, its ok if you die though because you learn. After playing through the game quite a few times, learning the bosses moves have made them pretty easy but I still find them enjoyable to beat because there still is the illusion of challenge with tons of stuff to dodge.

The characters are all super adorable. This isn't a game where you have bad guys trying to take over the world, they're all just kind of goofy with different motives that your hourglasses (the collectibles) help them do. They aren't really bad people though... more so misunderstood.

The online is fun, workshop support makes this game 100% worth it. The platforming levels (called Time Rifts) IMO are where this game truly shines, and having thousands of user created ones just adds soo much more to the game. Also each world is basically an online lobby and you can see other players (and they can see you). Each world is instanced so you don't have the true multiplayer experience, but there is local Co op (which with steams remote play or apps like Parsec you can play online as well)

Its not a long game, but at least for me it was fun enough to want to replay multiple times, and I think thats what the devs were going for. Hopefully one day we get a sequel, although I don't know how I'd feel having to say goodbye to all the best friends you make throughout the game :(

Im going to redo my review, as I made it during the first 3 hours of play, and an annoying bug really soured my taste of the game, however my overall rating of the game will NOT change.

This game has a lot of issues, the major issue is that its not fun. If you're a superfan of the series you'll probably like it, I like DBZ and DBZ games, I've played a lot of them and have seen the anime multiple times and could not enjoy the game.

Or maybe you're looking at this game as an RPG fan, never seen DBZ or have been interested but like RPG's... well you'll still probably not like this game. The RPG elements of this game are incredibly basic. There are 2 types of quests, you have quests where you go fight an enemy you've probably already fought before (unless you're doing the main story), and you have fetch quests. You beat a quest, you get experience, you level up. When you level up you can strengthen your moves and become able to to unlock new moves, however you have to still unlock them through training battles which are literally the same each time, fight 3 foes that change depending on the character you're playing, you beat them you unlock the ability for real. We'll touch on combat later, because for a dragonball Z game the combat is why I will probably not play again.

On the topic of quests... seriously Bandai Namco? This is what you brought to the table? Fetch quests? I could not stand doing anymore side quests. You had an amazing opportunity, There could have been fun quest lines based around filler episodes or even movies, but no... fetch quests. How boring.

This game really overloads you with useless garbage too. One of those things are the community board, throughout the game when you complete side quests or main quests when you meet a new character you get a character emblem, these emblems go on one of several community boards but honestly? They make no difference at all. The combat ones are the only ones that seem useful but they don't even feel like they make a difference. You can also level up the emblems and increase their proficiencys on different boards but honestly it just feels like a chore.

The combat is really what ruined the game for me though. Dragonball Z at its core has always been about beating up the bad guys who come and try to destroy earth, and the combat is not fun. There is one attack button, and you spam it, press your LB, select one of your specials and hope your opponent isn't using his super armor to ruin any effectiveness of the attack. DBZ Kakarot fighting isn't hard. You may have had issues with raditz, but after that when you start buying food its not at all difficult.

Speaking of enemy super armor, it is by far the worst thing about the combat, and its because it makes fighting not feel as good as it should. You beat the ♥♥♥♥ out of your enemy, they sit their and take it while they're charging up their attack. At the end of your combo when you go in for the sweet Galick gun, Kame ha me ha wave, masenko etc.. but you get knocked back because ONLY the people you are facing in this game get super armor when charging abilities, and enemies SPAM super armor attacks. Android 20 is by far the worst offender of this btw.

In regards to enemy attacks, they're basically all the same. They have their basic DBZ beam attack that they have super armor for when using, a sweeping kick that they have super armor when they are charging, and their energy blast volley that you just spam A as quickly as you can to not get hit by it.

People in these reviews are always like "HUR DURR!! ITS NOT A FIGHTING GAME!! Y DO YOU EXPECT GOOD COMBAT IN AN RPG!!!"

BECAUSE ITS A DRAGONBALL Z GAME! FIGHTING IS 90% OF THE GAME!

When you get past all the fetch quests and get to the actual climax of the chapters, its literally just big fight>Cutscene> Big fight> Cutscene>Big Fight>Cutscene and it just goes on until you finish the chapter you are in and then you go back to doing fetch quests while in intermissions between chapters

I'll be honest, if the combat was better I would recommend the game, because fighting is actually 90% of what you will be doing in this game, But the problem is that this game has no redeeming qualities. The quests are boring, the fighting is bad, the world is large but hardly anything in it, the flying is clunky, its just a mess.

If you want a fun DragonBallZ RPG, play Legacy of Goku 2 and Buus Fury on the GBA. If you can get past the 2D graphics, the combat is fun, the RPG elements are way more enjoyable Leveling up actually feels like a necessity where in this game they hand out levels for everything you do, they might as well not have even had levels. This game is mediocre, and I wish I refunded it when I made my initial review.

Banda Namco hire people who ACTUALLY know how to make a decent RPG.

In the 52 hours I've played I've been dragged along countless quests and killed tons of beasts of varying difficulties. This game is one of the few games that doesn't really get boring, atleast for me. The quests are unique and there are no fetch quests. From helping choose a king or queen of a queen or a quest like that plots the assassination of one, and everything in between.

I write this review after finishing the main story, disappointed with my ending but I wasn't quite aware of what ending I was going for, especially considering there's like 36 different endings based off the choices you make throughout the games/quests you do. The story was great, I just made a few bad decisions that made my ending not quite what I wanted.

I haven't even began the DLC yet, but I've heard that they are basically expansions that add a bunch of quests and new stories. Look forward to playing through them as well :)

Honestly one of my favorite n64 racing games when I was younger and it still holds up pretty well. It is fairly short though.

Couple things to mention, I bought this game with the intention of playing it with friends in steams remote play, but the PC version does **not** have split screen. The only way to play multiplayer is if both friends have the game and there are no servers for this game so everything has to be run locally (so if you want to play with friends, you're gonna need hamatchi)

Also its not perfect, the game never crashed completely but it froze a few times, especially if I tabbed out of the game at the end of a race.

The xbox controller mapping seems not so great, I don't think there is a way to pause on the controller so if I needed to pause I'd have to hit escape on my keyboard, maybe theres a way to go through the game files an change the controller mapping but I never looked.

Honestly for $5 it kept me entertained for about 4 hours, and if there were more stages to complete I would have played more. Hopefully someday they make another one (besides the one on the ps2)

I beat it, its official. DMC 5 has a better last boss than DMC 3. I think almost everything about this game was perfect, there were very few things (as a DMC fan) that I didn't enjoy, there were like 2 enemies that stealthed and moved around too much but beyond that every enemy was super good, the weapons were fun, the music was great, the game is visually BEAUTIFUL and I can totally see myself replaying it over and over to get better at the game and fights, as well as play on more challenging difficulties.

This game is literally DMC3, except you don't have to Fight arkham.
