As a preface, I would like to say that this is more of a mixed review more than a negative one. In all honesty, this game is most definitely a time vortex. MHW, the base game, drew me in and made me fall in love with it. As annoying as some of the monsters were to fight, I always found myself enjoying the world exploration, the monster discovery, and the story itself. I poured my heart and soul into new armor sets, spending hours upon hours grinding towards that shiny new set with new gem slots and perks. I finally decided that once I had gotten the best base game armor, I would get the expansion.

Unfortunately, within half an hour of downloading said expansion, I found myself getting increasingly frustrated and upset with the way that the game had scaled the difficulty. The final boss of the base game was fun, interesting, and was exciting to experience. And the armor set from said boss was fantastic! I spent way too long working towards that armor. Even the elder dragons leading up to said boss held the same standard, as annoying as they could be. Immediately upon fighting the very first monster of the DLC - the Beotodus - I knew I was in for a ride. The clutch claw was weird, difficult to use, and half of the time I was shaken off within seconds - being punished for even trying to use it in the first place. I still held hope out for how the expansion would go, and I was thoroughly disappointed. The Banbaro immediately shattered that. With way more health, dealing way more damage, and moving incredibly quickly in an environment that I was completely unfamiliar with gave the monster a clear and unfair advantage, especially to anyone who may have been using a slower melee weapon.

After that...don't even get me started on the viper Tobi-Kadachi. Or Brachy-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
If you're willing to look past the incredibly infuriating monster mechanics, the poorly-coded hitboxes, the weird and confusing damage scaling between the quests and monsters, and the poorly gated farming (i.e.; I want this weapon that does better damage but I can't upgrade it because it's locked behind the monster I need said weapon to fight), knock yourself out with this game.

Again, this is more of a mixed review than a negative one. Base game was fantastic, expansion was not.

Lots of fun, and can be very challenging if done right!
