I nominated Hades for the Game of the Year award, and now I feel obliged (by steam's tasks, mind you) to post a review.

If you are reading this, you probably know the gist of it: Hades is a god-like rogue-like that masterfully implements narrative into the repeating gameplay cycle, it had astounding visuals and a soundtrack that is, both figuratively and literally, music to your ears (not surprising for Supergiant Games).

After years of experiments, the developers decided to create something a bit more grounded and understandable for the audience at large, and my god they succeeded. It is the ultimate video game that has a little something for everyone (not even a 9.8 from IGN though, sad), not just some quirky niche basketball visual novel (no offense to Pyre, but such a game just isn't fit to become GOTY by modern standards).

Before I finish this review, I'd like to give it a little bit of criticism, just to be fair. My biggest gripe with the game is a lack of challenge. Once you get your hands on a couple of essential upgrades, it becomes too easy. I hear you say "But you have to increase difficulty to unlock weapon aspects and stuff!", and yes, you do but:
1. You need to do it too rarely because there is a separate heat gauge for every weapon.
2. Most difficulty upgrades are uninspired and generic (+10% hp to enemies, +15% to enemies' damage, etc). There are good ones, the main one being Extreme Measures, which gives bosses additional moves and/or alters their arenas, but there could be so much more!

In conclusion, Hades is a great experience and if you are considering whether you should try it or not, please do. It's not that expensive, and it provides you with tens of hours of enjoyable gameplay, great dialogue, and oh, come on, stop reading this rambling, do yourself a favor and try it for yourself, you won't regret it!
