Writing this review after the first boss, so I’ll come back and edit it if things change, but I have such a good impression of this game already that I want to leave a review.

This game is, so far, a relatively chill (but still somewhat challenging, on hard mode) top-down metroidvania with great movement, interesting mechanics, excellent art and animations, engaging dialogue, and surprisingly cute themes for a game called “Crypt Custodian.” It *just* came out and it already feels like it’s got a lot of polish.

The most interesting part of the mechanics is the upgrade system, which lets you customize your mechanics directly, and gives you optional challenges (which you can complete for “Upgrade Points”, which let you equip upgrades; it’s a badge system). There doesn’t look to be *too* many, but there’s a good variety, and it seems like it’ll flesh out nicely as I progress through the game.

The boss design is also interesting, with more stages than I expected, and some surprising attacks during some of them.

I’m on vacation the next week and I’m gonna spend a lot of it playing this game.

This game is very cute. Very fun. Has a lot of thought clearly put into the physics, the level design, the powerup design. Excellent voice acting! An open source level editor!

This is some of the most fun I've had with a 2D platformer in a long time, and honestly I can't speak highly enough of this game. Just play it, you won't be disappointed :)
