I can't believe I spent 36 hours of my Thanksgiving weekend on that game.
Surviving Mars is difficult to tackle at first, with some of the mechanics being quite unforgiving for a builder, but it's all about the journey. About conquering an hostile place and make it yours. I feel like there could be more done with it, especially for the end game, maybe a major disaster that challenges you or something, but overall I was very pleased once I got done with my playthrough.
Bonus point for the music. Holy heck it is good.
If you loved Interstellar or the Martian, this game is for you.
