Introduction and Conclusion
I remember playing Trine the first time back at 2014 and was amazed by the stunning scenery and game experience. Trine was one of the reasons why I grew a preference for adventure platformer indie genres and I have came back to replay this game again at 2020 and it's still one of the best looking games out there despite it being released on 2009.

I definitely recommend this game, if you've played the other Trine games and want to support the devs, buy it at any price you want. If you're a casual gamer looking for some games to waste time on then I'd prefer you buy it during discounts but the choice is entirely up to you, read more and find out for yourself

Difficulty
  • Game is too easy - The fights are not that challenging even on the highest difficulty (even on Hardcore). Platform puzzles are too easy not to mention it's badly designed because you can pretty much skip it by using one character. They could've made the puzzles more perplexing and nerf overpowered characters instead of using collectibles, although I'll admit some of it are cleverly placed, as a means to make the game harder and stretched out.

  • Easy Medium Hard - The game offers you 3 different difficulty options. Please don't play this one on Easy Difficulty, don't make the an easy game more easier else you wouldn't get much of the immersive scenery of this game because you would finish in probably less than 2 hours. I suggest playing this game on Hard mode, if possible with Hardcore mode turned on to get the most out of this game. Hard mode can have monsters or environmental hazards 1 or 2 shot you but it shouldn't pose as a big problem because there would be checkpoints spread throughout the level.

  • Hardcore - Play the game as how it was intended, pair it on Hard difficulty, let yourself be frustrated and experience the game at its core. Hardcore Mode offers limited resurrections and you can't save during the level, that basically means when you quit the game or die, you will to restart the level back from the start.

Gameplay
  • Mouse and Keyboard - It is working as intended, I had no problem playing on mouse and keyboard, although sometimes Amadeus' will create a floating platform instead of a box! Nevertheless, not much of a big deal.

  • Objective - You start at "point A" and you finish the level by going to "point B" but along the way you'll have to battle the undead and solve some puzzles along the way.

  • Skills - For every 50 experience you've collected you are rewarded with a skill point for each character. There are only 3 skills (level 3 max) per character and you will be able to get everything min-maxed by the end if you've collected everything. Although you have the freedom to level up what you like, this doesn't really offer much character skill customization because some skills are locked, and not to mention useless till the end, until you reach a specific chapter.

  • Items - There are secret chests hidden per chapter that contains items with stats to help you on your journey, and some items that could dial your characters skill to 11. Each character have 9 inventory slots for items. The items are not character locked which means you can shuffle the items for each characters and see what suits you best.

  • Battle Mechanics - I like how you aren't restricted of the methods on how you battle against your enemies. You can keep it interesting by using various styles of execution; environmental kills, melee attacks, range attacks, friendy-fire, jumping, dropping a huge box, and more!

  • Platform Puzzles - Yes there is a puzzle but it is poorly implemented because you can also skip it by just grappling away or conjuring objects. The idea is already there it just needs a couple of elements to restrict the player of abusing certain skills to swift through the obstacle.

  • Multiplayer - I can't say anything for the multiplayer part yet because I played this game entirely on single player. Will edit this part if I manage to play it on multiplayer.

Characters
Each characters have their own strengths and weaknesses. The voice acting is remarkable paired with comedic and witty dialouges. The three characters have an amazing chemistry with each other despite their difference in lifestyle and goals.

Chapters
There are a total of 15 chapters in the game and a bonus chapter that unlocks after beating the game that adds extra content. You should be able to complete this game in 2-4hrs in hard difficulty, without minding the achievements.
  • Story - A short fairytale cliche plot with a comical ending. Each chapter offers a paragraph of naration dedicated for the storyline. Characters would also often have historical dialogues about the chapter you're in.

  • Scenery - This one right here is the selling point. I bought this years ago with no expectations and was in complete awe for the first time playing it (even now!). Trine would really make you feel like you're inside a fairytale. Each chapter has its own unique setting and representation, the scenery gives off this enchanting tranquil ambience and mysterious nostalgic feeling inscribed in each chapter.

  • Goal - Repetitive. Start from point A, slay monsters, solve puzzles, get all collectibles (optional), reach point B.

  • Enemies - One weakness of Trine is they probably put all the budget for producing a good graphics but less on some aspects as clearly shown here. Repetitive enemies, you will see the same enemies over and over again every level and boss fights are also the same all throughout the game. I would've loved to see a variety of enemies in each chapter and a different miniboss by the end of it, which of course Trine failed to implement.

Visuals and Performance
For a game that came out at 2009, I have no words for the graphics! It has one of the best looking graphics out there in the Indie genre. Performance wise the game is really smooth and is in constant fps on highest settings. I haven't crashed and never encountered any game breaking bug on my entire playthrough.

Music and Sounds
Music is very relaxing and auspicious. It makes you escape reality and immerse yourself in the fairytale feeling of adventure and magic. Sound design is also distinctive, you'll know what is happening even with eyes closed. You can hear bones breaking, Zoya grappling, Amadeus' conjuring, and all those other stuffs in game.

Achievements
I really enjoyed the achievements, obtaining some of it are a challenge but no worries there are no absurd achievements in this game. All collectibles will be saved after finishing the level
and you can always come back for missed collectibles by replaying the specific chapter.
