I really enjoyed the hour I spent with this piece of interactive fiction. It's not a game about the difficulties of being a renter in a city; it's a game about the difficulties of being a renter in a specific city. While there are themes that will be familiar to anyone who has had to supplicate themselves before a landlord, the specificity of Don't Get Your Hopes Up made for a deeper experience by helping me imagine the details beyond the edges of the excellent narration and art.
