So have not actually played the game and there in is the reason for my negative review. When I pay $70 I expect to play a game that works, I'm not going to play through the game until it works. This game may well turn out great someday after a patch but my review will always be negative because it failed to deliver the one thing it promised on day one, a working game. I have a system the is well above the recommended specs and I am unable to play the game smoothly. It is a disrespect to the customer and to the game itself to release it like this. There is a good game in there I am sure but it is obscured behind bad frame rates and cut scenes that don't play right. Don't buy this game it doesn't work.

Update 10/26/23

I have just upgraded my computer to an i9 13900k 64 gigs of DDR5 ram and RTX4090 and it made absolutely no difference to this game. I can set the game to low graphics setting and turn the resolution down to 1080p and it still runs below 60fps.

It's probably better than either of the Guardians movies, which isn't quite fair as the game takes its style from those movies. The game is obsessed with entertaining through clever and dynamic dialog that occurs continually during all forms of game play, truly it might be a record for most lines of dialog recorded for a game of its kind. The game play is simple exploration and combat. Peter is relatively weak on his own but commands the team. Reading the field of conflict and commanding the Guardians to act and interact becomes a necessity, pulling off a perfectly arranged set up and smack down or calling the team in for an inspirational huddle when they are getting slammed, really makes you feel like you are Peter Quill leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Excellent game, above and beyond what I expected.

The game plays and looks as good as it ever has but my god, unlocking the costumes is an oppressively daunting task now. DOA 6 basically requires you to play though a tutorial mode where if you don't get every move it wants you to do right, you do not win any points for unlocking costumes. It's a shame because it honestly sucks a lot of joy out of the game. They should have at least provided alternative modes to play in that would unlock costumes. Everything else about the game is fantastic.

Could not play the game. It would crash to the desktop upon selecting the options menu or just after watching the first cutscene. There may or may not be a fun game buried under the bug but steam was counting the minutes I spent trying to solve the issue so I decided to get a refund before Steam recorded that I "played" the game past its refund point.

Early Access Review
There is something about Build Engine games that feels so satisfying, it's awesome that 3D Reals is using it on a new game. Even though this is being done on a retro game engine this game dose not lean terribly into nostalgic gags and tropes which I apprentice. Looking forward to seeing the development of this one.

It's another one of those "remember the 90's" games, it's kind of a day late to that party but thankfully it's not a dollar short. Striped of the nostalgia, it stands on it's own as great side scrolling jump-n-shoot.

Mine failed. it said I need to upgrade my GPU. I guess a GTX 1080ti is not good enough to run VR.

Well done Sega! Gives me hope for Yakuza games on the PC and maybe Vanquish!

Capcom should really be congratulated for RE7. Not only is it one of the best survival horror games and stands next to the best of RE titles, it is one of the best looking games around. I've played it both on PC and PS4 and both look great and hit a consistent 60fps. That's showing respect to all of your customer bases, insuring that no mater where you play the RE7 it's going to run great. Other publishers should take notice. Well done Capcom.
