It was the first FromSoft game I was waiting to release and the first one I didn't spoiled anything about for myself beforehand. Okay, what wasn't said about this game what was already said. It's huge, it's epic, it's fun to play and sad to learn about lore. Also it's somehow made more friendlier for a new players to enter and towards the end harder for even experienced players to master, they really spread the gradient of difficulty with this one.

Also, I wouold say I recomend to go through all games starting from Demon's Souls (if you have such opportunity, time and nerves for it), it would leave a feeling of completed experience in the end (not for everyone, but if you are asking yourself about it - the answer is yes).

"Heart Stolen"
I honestly wish it would be an alternate ending to this dlc, I really do. And the trailers actually subvert expectations in the way. This one specifically like non others makes me feel truly hollow after finishing it. And while Bandai Namco want our money, Miyazaki just want our tears.

All the lore bits I've noticed on my own and some references to other fromsoft games makes it even more bittersweet.

About gameplay, new weapons and enemies are pretty damn sick, everything is also quite compact and enemies are more challenging than main game, classic to any fromsoft dlc. The volume of it almost feels like it's whole new game, just more compact than original.

Didn't had any performance issues as well, runs stable as a main part of the game (yes, couple of very big attacks make a bit of stutter, but it's not gamebreaking).

Risk Of Rain but better, I guess. Exactly 10 yeast later.

Honestly, I don't get why people are comparing this game to RoR2 so much when it's just remake of the first game. Tons of new stuff added, and you even have an option to switch all the rules to classic if you are masochist (killing all enemies before activating teleport honestly was least favorite mechanic in original). Other people are talking about how remake is not fixing some finicky or not streamlined flaws of the first game, like maps that are maps layouts and the fact that you, oh boy, can be instakilled if you walk into the crowd of enemies, like RoR2 doesn't have such situation and nobody complains, when it would really just mean they would make different game or something like parallel sequel, idk. It's literally core of first game with new face and new stuff and ideas added on top, while couple rough edges being smoothed. Also a hack for those who didn't played first game and want to get mad advantage:
move Zoom Scale slider in option to x1 and your eyes will literally open. But at same time it might be a bit harder on your eyes in general. Honestly this option is almost a cheating in game where decision on where to go is crucial because time plays a big role, lol.

Good

  • All the fun that was fun in first one is same here, every run can go rather absolutely fantastic or horribly bad (most of the time, lol). Looping back through levels still brings chaos to your screen.
  • First game was beautiful in it simplicity, second game was beautiful in adaptation of it's style to a different medium, remake is just beautiful in adding details to what was working good.
  • Music is still, in my personal taste, better than the second. It's more raw, more "tangy", suits the style of the game better.
  • Movement and gameplay overall feels just a bit more dynamic and faster, but still just like the first game.
  • New stuff mostly is pretty good. New items and items from RoR2 freshen up the experience.

Bad (kinda)

  • If you don't like more raw and hardcore kind of rogue-likes or didn't liked first game, this might be not your cup of tea.
  • Just like first game it can feel a bit frustrating and unfair because of bad rng or you loosing your character in chaos of action, but it's nature of rogue-likes, it's not meant to always dominate the game, sometimes it kicks you in the gut.
  • Providence Trails is somewhere neutral, towards bad I'd say. For me, they just seems like they are not fun. It's almost like devs was testing the water to new games trying to encorporate existing stuff and give it some kind of puzzle/challenge twist, but most of them honestly feels like task you will do once to open stuff and never come back. In general not bad idea for unlocking stuff (especially considering they give you alternative to open it via other achievements if it's too hard for you), but half of them are not very fun or challenging, others kinda a bit too hardcore for what they giving to you.

Conclusion

It worth to get if you love first game and want renewed experience, or didn't tried the first one and want to give it a go, you are not skipping anything from original. If you don't like more raw, harder rogue-likes or wanted completely new part Risk Of Rain, this might be not for you.

Early Access Review
I'm mopping the floors with Cybergrind ost on full volume on the background.
They end up being ULTRACLEAN. Please don't throw slippers at me, I have like 1.5 braincells left after P-ranking stuff and my humor end up hitting floor just like V2.

Okay, I've finished demo somewhat like a half of year ago and decided to buy it the moment it will be released. Not regretting one bit.

Overall, it's pretty well thought clicker with elements of base building and somehow even exploration in pretty tiny world. It should be sold in bundle with Ultrakill and launched the moment when you are getting tilted for not being able to P-rank last couple of levels. Very tranquil and satisfying experience.

Also, unlike in demo you should not avoid water, instead it's a new way to explore, shoutout to a random chicken that fell of a cliff for a hint.

Upd: So I finished the game in around ~16 hours, totally worth it.

Well yes, the game of the year, according to the plot, unfortunately there was already a candidate for the main nomination, but this is a solid second place.

A proper review will come later.
