I enjoyed Portal with RTX but hated Prelude with RTX. Don't get me wrong, graphically speaking it's great. But the mod itself not only features annoying characters, but additionally, horribly enraging puzzles that you're more likely to die on instead of figure out how they work. The game pushes you more often than not to think in mere seconds rather than stand and think for a second which is one of the many things Portal on it's own did. At least with Portal and Portal 2, if you die- you think about how differently you can move on within a test chamber. Here, you die and you feel like an idiot cause there's not enough cues to guide the player, and most of the time in the latter levels, you have mere seconds to make a decision in an over-advanced chamber before you die, not giving you nearly enough time to assess the situation.

The only part I enjoyed, even in the 2008 edition, was exploring the offices near the end, before the final battle. I made it up to test chamber 14 before I said screw it and started skipping the levels via noclip. On top of that, the new momentum mechanic was pretty odd.

Not to mention, (as far as I heard and even remember) certain dialogue has been censored and replaced. I could care less, really since this mod was not that good of an experience, but I've always been against censorship in video games. But that's just me.

I know Prelude is a mod from 2008, but RTX lighting won't save it from it's infuriatingly mind numbing puzzles and level design.

For me, the game only crashed twice. Once during the first launch (which I fixed by launching from the desktop) and second when loading one single save. Other than that the game was stable for me.

Despite what people say about it, I really enjoyed Portal with RTX. Gave so much more (literal) light to a game from my childhood I already love dearly. At a lot of times it looks absolutely stunning with ray tracing, and the remade textures and assets really add to the experience. If you got a computer that can handle it, I'd absolutely try it.

Literally the best RoboCop game made. Combat is easy and intuitive, the attention to detail in both the lore of the movies and the game is spot-on, and the different options of dialogue leave lots of replayability. My only gripe is the cutscenes having too little emotion in the characters' faces at points and some minor visual glitches /jankiness, but other than that is absolutely an impeccable experience.

I'm actually shocked these are free, because the amount of quality and love put into these games are beyond most indie titles you see now. I absolutely loved the old IBM-PC vibes from these games, it makes it feel like something someone made back in the mid to late 80s and the killer soundtrack absolutely makes the experience 10x better. The only thing I didn't like was the fact the sword/shield controls were a little janky at times, and if I just tapped ALT to bring up the shield, it would get stuck and you'd have to hold the button in order for the shield to fully come up, leading me to lose a lot of health sometimes. Other than that, I absolutely loved this game. If you're into retro point/click style games then this is something you definitely gotta try.

EDIT: The only other thing I forgot to mention was that the game's windowed mode you can activate by pressing F4 is really small.

At first, the mod looked pretty good. Until I began playing it.

PROS:
-AK rifle my beloved <3
-Ironsight ability was pretty cool sometimes
-Story could have been interesting if I understood it
-Environments are pretty and well detailed

CONS:
-Voice acting is incomprehensible and sounds fake
-Pacing is way too fast and too much happens within the 55-60 minute playtime
-Subtitles in Russian despite the VO being in English
-Enemies are OP on certain occasions and spawn too many at once
-Level design is poor and is too linear (even by Half-Life standards)
-God-awful Head Bobbing and janky gunplay (see edit below)


The voice acting for one thing is atrocious. It honestly sounds like a single person voiced all the characters and phoned in an accent for all of them. On top of this, there's parts of the game where they speak at really weird times. There's this one part where you battle a helicopter using a heavy cannon and this one character is rambling the entire time, while you're firing rockets; all of it coming off as incomprehensible babble. Before you ask, yes. I had subtitles on. They're all in Russian, despite the VO being in English. I barely understood not even half of the voice clips in the mod.

Pacing. The pacing was just too rushed. It felt like the mod was trying to tell a much bigger story than what it was presenting, yet threw everything on the table at once and fell apart very quickly. I got two achievements within two minutes of playing, and not to mention the part where you're immediately told to "stop a convoy with explosives", and then not even a minute later you throw some C4 on the walls and blow up the singular Combine APC and kill a couple Combine Soldiers. At times it seems like the level design was made to pan out the pacing, because on two separate occasions did I have to loop around a second part of the map to access something which activates a main objective, like grabbing a cable or pushing a button. The puzzles weren't very interesting, either. Most of the same generic battery and switch puzzles. Right before "stopping the convoy" I had to loop around the map to activate a sky lift, go over a tiny little field and fight a bunch of soldiers and a gunship on said (extremely slow) sky lift, loop back around and then get told out of the blue to blow up an enemy vehicle. Enemy placement is weird too. I've encountered random Manhacks at really weird places, sometimes in open areas, sometimes in the middle of random caves with no other Combine around whatsoever.

The gunplay and movement is off putting. The ax animations are really weird, and some of the sounds are just that of hitting flesh (such as when you swing at physics objects). What I hated the most was the head bobbing. My God was it disorienting. There should really be an option to turn that off, because it's distracting at times- especially when there's several hundred enemies you're trying to kill, all of which have beefed up health/armor.

I've encountered some weird things while playing as well. Near the ending there were a bunch of Antlions that had spawned on top of where they burrow from, and as soon as you approach them, they immediately pop back into the ground and come back up to the surface again. Right before the ending I got flung across the map by God knows what and nearly died, amidst a massive battle.


It could be a great mod, but it just needs a lot of work.

EDIT: Apparently there's a way to disable the headbob, but it's by console command only afaik. I think it would be best to add a menu similar to MMod which allows the user to configure things like this, or another tab in the Options menu.

Prospekt was a mod that interested me for a while. Sure, the YouTubers were a bit harsh on it before the update but it's really not a bad mod. But at the same time, I don't think it's worth $5.99 with the number of flaws present. Don't think I'm saying the mod is bad, because it's got a lot of potential. People who compare this with HTDF are just insane, because while HTDF was a failure that didn't even try, Prospekt at least tried and did very well in a lot of areas, but does have some of it's issues which can be improved.

The story was confusing to follow along with, especially after entering Nova Prospekt. Why are we going back into Nova Prospekt after Gordon Freeman had already destroyed it after leaving in the portal with Alyx? What are the Vortigaunts having us destroy and why? It left me with quite a few unanswered questions.

And as another reviewer mentioned, the Xen part was an extreme letdown. You're only in Xen for not even five minutes, and you just jump from some floating islands to another, activate another teleporter, and leave Xen. Then we're on some...orbiting Combine base floating in Earth's orbit and we have to destroy some core? I really didn't get it.

Some areas of level design were a bit confusing as well. Certain doors or vents had no indication (or even slight landmarks indicating their presence) at all, so I actually had to use noclip a few times to find my way around. The worst thing about the levels though, were the elevator speeds. Some of the elevators move so slowly and tediously, I end up noclipping to the next level or area. A few of the puzzles were repetitive as well, like the parts near the end where you have to press buttons in certain rooms to open one central door, a puzzle repeated 2-3 times.

The game doesn't explain things that well, which is a shame, cause Prospekt has a lot of potential as a mod. There were parts of it I enjoyed, and parts I didn't.

Prospekt is a good mod, sure, don't think I'm saying it isn't, because I'm not. It's a good mod, but it has the potential of being great, and never really unlocked that potential.

Liquidators for me was an experience I'll never forget. I had known quite a bit about the 1986 disaster beforehand, but was never really able to experience the anxieties related to it, never knowing what it was really like. Liquidators captures that image perfectly, your heart will be racing as you plunge into the bowels of Reactor #4, knowing each move you make.....might be your last. Replaying the game or even going through as a different Liquidator helps as you'll learn what's ahead of you and learn to make better choices. The uncertain anxiety in this game is what really makes it accurate to real-life, especially realizing the Liquidators who went in there and had no life-saving medkits or restarts. It's truly a great experience for those like me who love learning and experiencing things as they were, or those looking for a true horror experience without monsters and whatnot. True horror lies in what our minds can't process or comprehend, especially when it comes to the dangers of Ionizing Radiation and how none of your senses know it's there until it's deadly effects come in later on.

Want to hallucinate without any negative side effects? Then this game is just for you. Off-Peak is a game with stunning visuals, masterful writing, morbid environments, clever puzzles, easy to follow controls and UI, and much more to offer. Of all the games I've played that were made off the Unity Engine Platform, I have to say that Off-Peak is the best out of all of them. It has a truely engaging, breath taking atmosphere that makes me want to keep re-playing it just to comprehend some of it. Being into crazy, morbid stuff myself, This was truely a work of art. Off-Peak is a game that is absolutely worth the download.

10/10 - I would seriously play this again. Took me 20 minutes to beat without looking at any walkthroughs or guides.

Cosmo D Studios, if you're reading this, please make more games like this. This was an amazing experience right from launching the game all the way to the end of the full credits sequence.
