It's really not that great. I'm a bit puzzled by the "Very Positive" reviews on this one.

The polish is missing in so many areas -- whether it be lighting, sounds, animations, mechanics, user-interface; you name it. It could all do with much more polish. The least awful of those aforementioned is the UI.

The one thing that repeatedly frustrates me is the fact that the ghost-images are pretty awful. It makes it impossible to see the details of the building (i.e. where the doors/hingers are on the small chicken coop) until AFTER you build it. Because of this, you can easily place a buildling in a way you had no intended, and would only know this after you've already built it using the resources.

It wouldn't be a big deal if you could pick up the placable and move it -- even a short distance or, at the very least, rotate the friggin' thing, but you can't.

All you can do is destroy it to receive SOME of the resources back that were used to build it. Quite silly. You'd think if they were to force you to lose resources when demolishing something because you can't edit it, then they'd at least make the ghost image more detailed so you don't make mistakes so easily.

The in-game economy is pretty terrible as well.

Meh, I don't really want to waste time ripping into this anymore. I'm just really not impressed by it and am, as I said, quite puzzled by the "Very Positive" here on Steam.

Maybe I'm the odd one, but I doubt it. I guess it's hype.

This is very promising! It's an overhead version of Police Simulator with a storyline and additional mechanics. Demo seems very polished.

Only issue that annoyed me was the fact that pedestrians jump in front of you from the sidewalk during a chase. Aiming during the firefight seems a bit...off too, but it's hard to tell for sure considering there was only one opportunity to test it.

I look forward to more of this!

STOP BUYING THESE F**KING TITLES!

STOP GIVING THEM YOUR F**KING MONEY!

THEY'RE NEVER GOING TO STOP SCREWING US IF YOU USEFUL IDIOTS KEEP BUYING IT!!

(DISCLAIMER: I only bought this game because my friends kept begging me to get it. I fought it until MW2 was 50% off then I caved in.

Absolutely not worth it. And now that they've fused all of them together...OMFG -- you're an absolute idiot if you give these people your money. We've all been idiots for a while, but at this point, you should be flogged if you continue to do it.

STOP!!)

I've tried to give this game a shot multiple times, but I cannot seem to stay interested.

It's not the story that bugs me. It's the mechanics.

The idea behind the mechanics is great! However, the execution is horrible. I find myself more frustrated by the ludicrous implementation of them instead of impressed. They're just so unpolished.

Combat feels so clunky. The map could be better. The way various skills are implemented makes one raise their eyebrow and wonder what drugs the designer(s) was/were on when making the decision.

I donno. Maybe I'm crazy. Usually, I largely agree with the reviewers when they say a game is great, but this one just falls short to me. Very short.

Maybe one day I'll give it a shot when I'm in just the right mood (maybe heavily buzzed) and I'll feel differently. But I've already given it 3 good shots for a total of 70 hours, and I'm just not satisfied.

I really wish they'd polish the game more, or at the very least learn from the mistakes of this title and create a new one that's closer to perfect.

EDIT:

Nevermind. After watching some Youtube videos and really taking the time to learn this game (since KCD:2 is coming out this year), I can happily say that this game has REALLY grown on me!

Don't get me wrong -- it still has its problems, but I've grown used to lockpicking and it doesn't bother me at all. Melee combat is really the only thing that drives me crazy, aside from some random bugs AND the fact that we have no ability to save outfits sets (since you'll likely want at least 3 -- one for combat, one for charisma, and one for sneaking).

Even so, I have to say I love this game now! Thank God.

Seems multiplayer just keeps going backwards.

They can't manage to get it right. Add the fact that they keep throwing micro-transactions in your face, and you've got a proper crap title.

Well done, Activision, you're continuing down the path of EA. Heck, you might even be in the lead for the biggest d-bag publisher out there. Props.

The game has some serious design flaws. The lack of an ability to break down logs further after they're cut (unless I'm missing something) as well as no ability to extinguish a campfire without breaking it apart...It's all a bit silly.Even so, the game is immersive enough and seems to be fun (enough).I'll play a bit more before I give my judgement, but there are certainly many little things that make me raise an eyebrow and wonder "Wtf?"Curious as to why there aren't many other comments pointing this out.

Like the game.

Hate the morons behind Ubisoft connect, the random crashing, and the fact that you MUST retain an internet connection to play the game. As soon as you lose connection - BOOM - game stops your play session.

At least it doesn't necessarily CTD when the connection is lost. Necessarily.

For that, it's no surprise people hate Ubisoft anymore. That and the fact that their games are largely full of empty grind for the sake of making the game longer.

Even so, I do appreciate the effort the dev team put into this title. I just hate the team leads and the executives for obvious reasons.

It has a LOT of questionable design mechanics. Really makes one scratch their head and wonder how stupid some of the lead developers/designers were.

Beyond that, the effort put into the characters seems pretty lackluster, and don't get me started on the whole left-wing politics angle. All "white people bad" this and "your 2nd amendment is dumb" that.

They don't sugarcoat the political narrative in this game. They talk about southerners as if they're stupid and scummy, and white folks as if they're purely evil. They use a lot of the modern Democrat phrases like "People of Color" and paint capitalism in a negative light.

Heck, one of arguable more well-balanced characters in the game -- Copeland -- is always being talked down to by Deacon and painted as if he's some crazy, right-wing conspiracy theorist radical, even though he's one of the most fair, reasonable people in the game.

If you can get past some of the VERY poor design choices, lackluster character development, quirky, jerky, annoying combat, then you might be able to appreciate the game for its story, difficulty, and satisfaction that comes with taking out the Freakers (and Freaks).

All-in-all, I'd give the game maybe a 7/10. 6 if I'm being as stern as I want to be for the political crap.

Get it on sale. Definitely not worth full price.

I really wish this game would make some real progress after almost 9 years...

Even so, can be quite a bit of fun for the right price, and with friends, and in the right mood.
