Completely fumbles its weapon upgrade system. You go through levels and find both perk emblems and red gems to unlock perk slots for you and your weapons. Gold emblems can radically change each weapon and make combat more unique and strategic. Except the red gems needed to unlock the perk slots are bizarrely scarce and more hidden than the perk emblems. Worst of all, unlock progress is tied to the difficulty. You can retry levels with a guide to find missing items but cant keep them on other difficulties. So no collecting on Normal to prep for a full Hard run.
