Early on thoughts

Well well well. HOW did I not find this earlier?!

I grew up on Escape Velocity, and I've been DYING to play it again on my modern system. What can I say? I saw this game and got my wallet out, only to find that its FREE?! Bless you Michael for making this seeminly flawless port/lookalike. You're making me relive my childhood buddy, you seriously rock!

+Its fraking Escape Velocity y'all
+Creatively written interactions

-Only thing missing is the "Captain Shareware" ship reminding me to contribute, kinda miss him

There's a joke in the gaming community that the Germans love their sim games... and wow I can see why. I have to be honest, I thought "just drivin' a truck around" would be pretty bland, but it isn't. It's damn fun. The accuracy is challenging, but approachable, and the scenery is lovely. The level of detail and meta gaming down to managment (could be another game all together) really fleshes out a wonderful game you can easily lose yourself in.

So if you're serious about sims, you prob already own this. If you just want something to play casually, and tune out to, also get it. Tell your friends to get it. Tell your mother to get it! Just get it!

The greatest mil sim, possibly FPS of all time

I've been playing ArmA since Operation: Flashpoint (Renamed Armed Assault [ArmA]: Cold War Conflict]. I've always loved the concept of a sandbox game. Do whatever you want, your game play is literally limited to your imagination. We all know BIS has this aspect of the ArmA series in spades, but the military realism and breath of immersion with A3 is unreal.

You step in the game and you actually FEEL yourself move within the environment. Thanks to the PysX engine, when you drive a vehicle the tactile feeling of traversing the terrain is like no other game out there. Weapons don't just aim themselves, if you miss your target down range (which you will!) it's your own fault. Working in squads and managing situation awareness is crucial to your survival, and you'll find plenty of players who want that next level realsim. The lush graphics and visuals are by far the most advanced of all current FPSs. Finally the best improvement, IMO, is the modified stance system. No longer do you have to clumsily stick to a wall to have cover, or just choose between getting shot or going prone and not being able to shoot. With this new mechanic, you can adjust your position in very specific ways to have sights down range over any variety of cover.

By and large this is the greatest experience I've had in video games in a long time. ArmA 3 is only still in beta right now and It's still the most compelling, and in depth video game I've ever played.
