Simplistic, straightforward gameplay that rewards and progresses based on your experimentality. Simply, you have resources that you put into "input machines" which become new resources. These new resources mix in various combinations with other resources with the ultimate goal of creating weapons which you can then sell. However, this isn't just about experimenting with resources, it's about efficiency and automation and your ultimate goal is to have a fully functioning factory that requires very little input from the player. Slap on a slightly, command and conquer-esque Soviet aesthetic and you have March of Industry.

Honestly, I find the core concepts to be a ton of fun and it's actually rather engaging and addicting trying to find new weapon combinations but there is just not enough content here for any type of extended play. Graphically, it's your usual 16 bit, pixelized look and the game becomes rather challenging rather quickly. Thankfully, the game isn't overly punishing and you should be able to rectify any mistakes you make without too much fear of having to start over. Then again, if you make a lot of mistakes then you've very little choice but to start your business all over again.

After extended playing, I've found there are a couple of negative issues. First, is the sound can get really annoying really quickly. If you sell items one by one, you have the "narrator" looping so you'll probably end up turning the sound off altogether anyway. Secondly, when resources get bunched up in your input machines, they get cluttered really badly and you have to select the resources one by one... which is sort of a pain in the ass. It'd be nice if the dev could add a double click feature which lets you select all of one resource in a general area or something. The worst problem is an almost complete lack of replayability. Sure you are suggested to restart your factories multiple times but what's the point? If I didn't enjoy the core game concepts so much, this would almost be a complete deal breaker.

All in all, it's simple and it's fun. 9.99 isn't a bad price but for the current content, I'd like to see that price go down to about 4.99 or there to be some additional content because the current version of the game can be beat in only a few hours.. Slightly recommended.

Finally, it is fully released. What can really be said about this game that hasn't already been said? It's an amazing tycoon game and I, daresay, the best Prison game I've ever played. The core concepts are simple, you build a prison with the intent on making money. You make money by accepting grants, getting more prisoners and having a bigger prison. With more inmates, comes more issues, thus requiring more money. Excess money is spent on research, salaries, expansion and general upkeep. You can build your prison however you want within the map size and I've seen some crazy prison layouts from other players (the Enterprise prison and automated prisons come to mind). They have even added in a campaign mode and you can take control of the inmates and bust out of the prison. This is a damn good game and I highly recommend it to anyone even remotely interested in Tycoon-esque games.

Word of advice, don't leave any doors open and get metal detectors as soon as possible.

Ever played a board game where a bad dice roll made you flip the table? Well, don't worry, Cat Rabbit adapted one of the best table flipping board games into a masterfully crafted "Computer Monitor out the window" Simulator. Trust me, even praying to Nuffle will not save you against the unforgiving dice gods of Heroes of Normandie. Semi-serious joking aside, this is a great board game adaptation that has beautifully crafted maps with simplistic yet effective animations to simulate the movements and attacks of your units. It's insanely satisfying to hit an enemy halftrack with a cannon and watch that little tile smash into a dozen pieces, yet it's equally disheartening to watch your tank crumble under the assault of a lucky roll of 6. There is also a ton of content/scenarios to be found here, with head-to-head multiplayer included as well as a campaign mode that features several campaigns for the 3 factions featured in the game. You also see the humour of the boardgame translated perfectly into dialogue boxes throughout the various campaigns.

For those of you who are unfamiliar to the basics of the game, you are placed in timed (generally) scenarios with a select number of units and you're expected to accomplish both a Primary Objective and a Secondary Objective (2ndary being optional yet provides lootz and bonuses). As a board game, it is turn-based, with one player (whoever has initiative) picking which units he wants to give orders to. Essentially, you can have 6 units but you can only give orders to 3 with one unit being a bluff (your opponent has to guess which unit isn't actually going to move). This requires a lot of tactical thinking, should I move my tank and blast away his fire squad or should I move my greyhound away from his PShreck squad? Each unit also goes into battle with different weapons, and each weapon is good at a specific thing and has specific values as shown on the weapon card. Basically, a rifle is far less effective at bringing down a halftrack as a 76mm cannon on a sherman tank. Simple stuff.

With that said, the tutorial could be a little more... exploratory, I suppose is the word. Trust me, you learn more through trial and error and I imagine it was intended that way. The tutorial literally explains the bare-bones of how to play the game. This is mildly disappointing because the game is hard as nails and the AI does not go easy on you.

All in all, this game is actually really fun and has a ton of replayability. Personally, I hope the devs stick with it and provide additional content to elaborate on the already existing content. This most certainly gets my seal of approval.

To sum up, this is a game very similar to Patrician with Civ 5 diplomatic elements and very simplistic Total War combat mechanics. Even then, I would compare this game to the classic, Knights of Honor (go buy that and thank me later). The game, aesthetically, is downright beautiful. The towns feel alive and are incredibly visually appealing while the soundtrack is peacefully immersive and you're immediately drawn into this economic simulation Gaming Minds has presented for you. It's actually really peaceful and enjoyable just to watch your (eventually) sprawling country to just "live." How's the gameplay though, you ask? It's alright. Relatively simplistic and easy to get drawn in to it's a pretty barebones simulation of economics on a Medieval scale. You build this building to make "this resource" while paying "set amount of money" as salaries and upkeep and sell the excess as profits. It's not exactly innovative or unique but it's most certainly competent and can be relatively stress-free unlike games such as the Guild 2 where market fluctuations from all manner of events can make or break your Dynasty and personal relationships can increase or decrease the longevity of your life span.

The combat in this game can also be clunky at times. I don't know if it was intended this way or is just glitches but it seems like troops don't always want to engage troops that are already currently engaged which is rather strange. I found myself battling this problem while trying to take over my nearest neighbor who seemed to have been protected by his city's selection box.

All in all, the game isn't bad, gameplay-wise it's your standard economic simulation, and not much else. Aesthetically, artisitcally, it's downright gorgeous and it makes for a damn beautiful game to just vicariously inspect.

I already really like this game. Awesome, brutal animations, relatively beautiful graphics and easy, simplistic controls. Blood Bowl is essentially American Football mixed with the Warhammer Fantasy Battle universe where Orkz pummel Humans into the turf with wild abandon. Ever wanted to kill your opponent's entire team rather than score touchdowns? Well, Blood Bowl is your game. And as far as competitive Blood Bowl Multiplayer goes, this is the best Blood Bowl to date. Full on team customization from colors to races, mixed with Cabal TV (allows you to watch community replays and live matches between players) and a fully fleshed out League mode means having a persistent team that competes against other players is definitely the way to play. You also get quite a few races to choose from, Humans, Bretonnians, Dark Elves, High Elves, Dwarfs, Chaos, Orkz, Skaven and even Lizardmen (or Wood Elves). Still, I'd like to see the other races in the game as well, especially the Undead, Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings.

My biggest complaints with the game are in the features the game is missing as opposed to Chaos Edition. For example, there is no real-time mode, there is no World Cup mode or tournament mode. It really focuses on the League mode between players. Essentially, if you have no friends or don't like playing competitively, there isn't much for you to do. It would also be nice if there were more animations overall.

I don't know what to think of this game, it's funny but weird. It's so bad that it's actually kind of funny. Is this game really worth your money? Well depends, do you like ludicrous RPG Maker games that are more about jokes than mechanics? If not then no. If so, then yes. The gameplay is simple, use arrow keys to move, enter is your action button and combat functions like a pokemon game in simplistic turn-based fashion. The artwork is pretty much just google images put into the game so you can imagine it's all pretty bad yet mildly humourous. I also cannot stop laughing at the copy/pasted ♥♥♥ of GabeN in this game... so funny. All in all, this game will probably get pulled for copyright reasons but it's good for a few yucks. Honestly, I'd be more inclined to recommend it if it was .99 cents rather than almost 3 bucks.

Simple, easy to learn and fun but also frustrating because of the challenging AI. Battle of the Bulge is a simplistic turn-based wargame with only 3 different unit types (infantry, armored cav and tanks), only a few scenarios but an AI that actually proves to be very challenging no matter what general (different scripting and difficulty) you choose to fight against. Let's just say that it is literally waiting for you to make mistakes and will not hesitate to capitalize upon it. The game itself is easy to pick up (I understood most of the concepts after playing the first scenario a couple of times) and the fast paced nature of the game means that you won't have to play each mission for too long, so the gameplay is rather addicting in that regard. My favorite part of the game is probably the amount of meticulous research and data that has been provided in the "Reports" that you get at the end of every day and also the "History" menu which is pretty much just a nice bit of background for those interested in the battle itself.

My one complaint with the game is the rather limited number of scenarios and unit types. Then again, this wasn't meant to be a difficult or long drawn out wargame which is actually one of it's charms. If there is a sequel, I'd definitely like to see this format again. All in all, for only 9.99, this will prove to be a valuable purchase.

Beautiful animations, beautiful artwork, hypnotically immersive soundtrack, fluid game mechanics and overall gameplay that just oozes originality while also being ridiculously fun to boot. Armello is a turn-based RPG/Strategy Card game which is honestly more of a Virtual Board game than anything else. You pick a Hero, each possessing their own strengths/stats/abilities and proceed to compete against 3 other players while trying to win the game through 4 different methods (kill the king, gather 4 stones and confront the king etc etc). All the while, you have random events, dictations from the King (player-chosen events), and even an evil race of monsters (called Banes) that are trying to kill everything and everyone. Sometimes you will work together with other players but it's important to remember there can only be one winner, so backstabbing is friendship killing levels in this game. Final opinion? This game is a hell of a lot of fun and I highly recommend it even if it's just for the Aesthetic alone... Now excuse me, I'm going to go maul a few animals with my Spirit Bear.

Another very interesting turn based strategy game from Slitherine. This time, you order units into action (up to 6) but when you end the turn, they move (based on initiative) as the enemy moves. This leads to a feeling of unpredictability to the AI and sometimes the best move actually turns into the worst move, especially if your unit moves after an opponent's. The limitation of orders also gives weight to the formation system in the game. Essentially, you will have multiple units, let's assume 3 swordsmen who can then be grouped into a formation. This formation, while far less mobile, buffs your units a bit while also allowing for special abilities and only counts as one order rather than 3. Basically, it brings additional challenge while also being practical.
While this is still a turn-based wargame, there is a heavy focus on story in between (sometimes during) the battles where you learn more about the main character and his motley cast of friends and possible enemies. The story itself is pretty simple (from what I've seen so far) in that it follows the typical Hero's Journey story type. Main character seems talentless but actually has lots of potential and becomes the savior of... etc etc. Truly though, the story does a great job at adding background to what would otherwise be a series of challenges and scenarios!
To sum up the rest of my feelings on the game, it has a nice soundtrack, good artwork, an absolute ♥♥♥♥ ton of lore all provided very neatly and organized for Lore Nuts like myself and the game provides a good deal of fun to boot. It does seem like one of those games that once you beat, you may not replay it unless you're shooting for harder difficulties. All in all, I like it and definitely recommend it.

Warhammer 40,000.... and Chess? An unlikely duo but oh my goodness, so beautifully brutal. Its very similar to Battle Chess where the rules have been modified to allow units to fight in a variety of ways rather than just regular chess movements. All your standard chess pieces are here, Space Marines and Shoota Boyz as pawns, Terminators and Nobz as Rooks etc etc. Every differing unit comes equipped with special abilities (such as frag grenades, snap shot, only in death, etc etc) and comes with multiple visceral executions that literally make you giggle with bloody joy. The first time you watch a Librarian turn a Shoota Boy into a giant pile of organs and blood, you'll probably feel the same way. Furthermore, the graphics are quite beautiful and there is some considerable detail in every model and the maps. From my time spent so far, I do wish there were more maps, though.
Unfortunately, the game can get sort of repetitive unless you are a diehard Chess player. But the campaign definitely breaks up the monotony of just playing chess with modified rules. All in all, for only 14.99 (12.74 right now) this game is great value and I definitely recommend it to my Chess/Warhammer 40,000 fans out there.
