A little overwhelming (at first) for an RTS, but definitely a damn good one. This is the RTS that this genre has been needing for years, technological upgrades, extensive building options, lots of units with factions that are extremely varied. And the good old gamebreaking nukes you get at the end of the game... this most certainly shows that the genre is not dead and still has economic viability. And don't worry, this game isn't a carbon copy rock-paper-scissors game. While yes, certain units are better at bringing down certain units, infantry are equipped to bring down other infantry, vehicles and aircraft, just as the other types can bring down infantry as well. Just the U.S. Army alone has mortarmen, artillery SPGs, Tanks, 6 different types of infantry including Delta Force types with air support in the form of F-35s (god forbid) B-2's and F-22s.

Resources even operate like classic strategy games except, rather than having to assign worker units to refineries, it works more like CnC where you build a refinery and it uses up all the resources in that area... once it's done, move on to the next place. By the way, there are 3 resources in the game, oil, aluminum and "rare-earth ores." You have three technological levels (as the US Army) which can be reached by gaining more resources and they unlock new techs, units and powers. The battles get really crazy, really fast and the AI will not hold back against you. Definitely a recommended title.

This is good. Real good. If you're a fan of Koei's Romance of the Three Kingdoms series then you're going to like this. Even then, based on the 4x and real time battle mechanics, if you're a Total War fan, you may enjoy this as well.

Essentially, you choose one of several scenarios and choose one of hundreds of different playable characters (not counting the ones you can create yourself) and attempt to unite Japan during the Sengoku Jidai period. Yes, yes, I know, isn't the Warring States starting to get a bit old? Well, this is actually a very refreshing take on it because it's a story driven experience where you receive Historical quests that creates an interesting world in Feudal Japan (as Koei is apt to do). You develop your nation, starting with just a city, using your officers and as you grow economically, you build up militarily. You attack neighbors, convert their officers and make alliances where needed to ensure victory and further grow the amoeba that is your clan. On top of this, the atmosphere of the game is absolutely beautiful, with thriving immersive cities that actually grow visually as you develop them. You just built Stone Walls? Well you actually see Stone Walls on your Castle now. I will say, the UI can be a little troublesome at times but if you take your time and play the tutorial, you should be able to pick it up rather quickly. There are also a metric tonne worth of actions you can take as compared to ROTK games. As a fan of Koei's Strategy games, I was pleasantly surprised to see this and I'm glad to say I have not been disappointed. Highly recommended!

Update: 3 hours in, no crashes, very good optimization as far as I can tell. AI can be ruthless. Take your time building up. Updates will continue as I notice things.

One of my favorite games of all time. Where other games similar to Dungeon Keeper failed, Evil Genius succeeded in so many ways while also creating a world that was unique in itself. The goal of the game is to build an evil secret base on a deserted island and further your plans of world domination. Be careful, however, for the forces of good will do everything in their power to stop you from fulfilling those dreams. You control everything from a birds-eye view where you build rooms and objects via "blueprints" which Minions then proceed to purchase and place for you. The game overall is very smooth and challenging. After all these years, I still haven't managed to beat the game and I bought it when it first came out! All in all, I love this game and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to rule the world and throw foolish special agents into giant mixer bowls.

Dominions is simple yet complicated. This board game-esque turn-based strategy game features a massive amount of different units, varying factions that all specialize in various areas, randomly generated maps, and even the ability to create your own factions and gods. The premise is relatively simple, you are a God who is battling other gods to ascend as the supreme God Ruler of all existence and the AI will not go easy on you. Trust me, I've played both the 3rd and the 4th games and the AI has beaten me senseless almost every time I've played. I highly suggest the game as the gameplay is relatively fast paced for a TBS and as such is incredibly addicting. You'll be hard-pressed to close the game when it'll only take 4 more turns to conquer the Undead guys. Definitely recommended.

This mod turned Hearts of Iron Standalone expansion is what every HOI2 player ever dreamed of; a bridge between WW1 and WW2 while adding more research options, more events, more units and a hell of a lot more replayability. A prime example of a mod that deserved to be paid for. Essentially, if you're a Hearts of Iron fan, you need to play Darkest Hour.

Fun game, just like the originals. Lots of different factions to choose from and an amazing Map Editor. What's even better? You get upgrades, 3 different research trees and the battles are larger and more diverse than ever before. The challenging AI is also back and don't worry, even the casual AI will have you securing your borders or facing constant raids from all sides.
However, the game needs a decent amount of polish before it is completely done. For example, there are quite a few textures that seem messed up, from the regular citizens in your cities to the generals of your armies. Also, the animations seem particularly disjointed in this iteration of Hegemony. I also notice that skirmishers charge while in formation whereas in previous games they would just lob spears/rocks/etc from a distance while allow other units in the formation to engage. This can prove incredibly frustrating as your units will suicide charge melee infantry if not ordered on an individual basis.
If these basic issues can be ironed out, I believe this might be the best Hegemony game of them all! I especially can't wait to see what mods and maps people create for the game.

I like it. It's what the past 2 Settlers games should've been; simplistic economic management with overwhelming personality. Graphically appealing with an absolutely beautiful art style and an amazing soundtrack as you build up your small Viking village outside the gates of Valhalla. The whole concept of the game is to build up your village so that it can support a small force that is strong enough to defeat the guardians of the Portals. You start with a group of about 5 vikings and you generally end the mission with a significantly larger numebr. You'll unlock new buildings and aesthetics as more achievements are accomplished and missions are completed. As the game drags on, you'll eventually have some pretty large cities. All in all, I really like this game. The devs clearly love their project and have put a lot of work into it and it has clearly paid off. And come on guys, it was made with assistance from Real Vikings, the trailer showed me so.

Bugs, glitches and a rather unintuitive UI (no tooltips, or ways to check current objectives) mar this game. It's very clear that this game could've done with a few more weeks of polishing. However, the basic concept is pretty fun. It's very similar to Ghost Master, where you scare the inhabitants and or visitors of your home, except that game is a tad more indepth. Considering this is a first attempt from The Fine Young Capitalists, don't expect any panty droppers... just a simple, fun game where you scare the piss out of unsuspecting people looking for a thrill. I think my favorite part of the game is the varied number of characters, their reactions and the character models themselves. A very interesting artstyle to say the least. All in all, it's worth 5 bucks and it makes for a passable first outing. Can't wait to see what else comes from this company.

Age of Empires Online. Anno Online. Total War Kingdoms: Battles. The Settlers Online. I love watching my childhood Strategy games get a nice Golden Shower while receiving unwanted sloppy facials. Sure, at first, getting constantly ♥♥♥♥-slapped sucks but it gets better when the guy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you makes you pay for dinner afterwards, right? I can't wait for the next Pay to Win [Insert Classic Strategy game of the 90's/Early 2000's title] Online game. How about Seven Kingdoms Online? Or Starcraft Online? Trust me, I've got tons of games you can just anally violate for maximum Profit Margins. Who gives a ♥♥♥♥ about originality anyway? I mean, who even tries to make good games anymore? ♥♥♥♥ it, someone will pay for it. Prepare your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, lads, Ubisoft is going in and they aren't coming out until our wallets have been properly and effectively reamed.

This game is interesting. Not bad, not great, just interesting. Take the core concept of Tropico, where you are an island dictator and revolution against your regime is just around the corner, yet make it a predominantly Cause and Effect type game where instead of building up an island nation like Sim City, you're more balancing budgets to not go bankrupt yet not get wiped out by rebels due to tax increases until you're rich enough to escape. It seems the only way to learn the game is to constantly fail and try again, which works with this type of game but it's frustrating when you keep getting wiped out by your own army! All in all, it's simple, it's interesting and games where you experiment always come off as engaging to me. I'd recommend if you're into text adventures as a mad dictator who is just trying to screw his nation out of millions of dollars!
