Sweet Japanese goodness. First Medieval Total War and now this gem too? This right here, coupled with Medieval Total War were my freaking childhood and worth hundreds of hours of game time. I'm so happy to fiercely charge with my 2d sprites against the enemies of my Clan! Plus, how many games can your diplomat get his head chopped off and sent back to you as a declaration of war? That's right... only this one. Into the Sengoku Jidai, once more lads!

I could tell you of how this game is a solid City Builder in vein of Impressions Games' Titles such as Casesar III, Pharaoh and Zeus. I could tell you of the variety of buildings in the game with an absolute 'motherlode' of content that would have any fan of City Builders to dig up a copy of SimCity IV. However, that's not what made me really like this game. It was the aesthetic, the freaking epic soundtrack that immerses you in the eventually complicated webs of services, residential zones and beautification monuments. Your bustling city full of working citizens from supernatural exorcists to copper miners and shopkeepers. An artstyle that screams originality and further draws you in to this Steam Punk world of industrialized Urban centers. Faes sparkle in the woods outside your city, water pours from pipes jutting out of the edges of the known world while steam bellows from the chasms of magma bellow the surface. Life, though artificial, is mostly certainly alive here. And undoubtedly, that's the best feature I've found in my time with Lethis.
Now that's not to say the game is perfect. You notice very quickly that the soundtrack is the most prevalent noise in the game as sound effects only cue when you click on buildings or citizens. It's eerie that so much activity is occuring in your city but you could hear a pin drop if the music was muted. Personally, I would've appreciated there to be voice actors in the game... not annoying voices that talk every five seconds but rather, Pharaoh's approach or Stronghold where citizens would recite lines of how well their lives are going in game. A minor request, for sure, but it sure would bring a human element to this otherwise lively, bustling world.
All in all, this game is well worth 20 bucks and I can see myself pouring dozens if not hundreds of hours into perfecting my little Victorianesque Steam Punk cities.

The Pre-SEGA era:

I remember battling the Holy Roman Emperor as King of the Danes. I remember charging my Irish kerns and lobbing javelins at rows of French Knights. I remember bribing El Cid and bringing Valencia into the Spanish Empire to battle the encroaching Moors. I also remember being in 5th grade and writing down my accomplishments and drawing pictures of stick people depicting the great sieges I partook in.This was Total War... and I loved it. It's really good to have one of my favorite games of all time back and working on Windows 8.1. It even supports my native 1920x1080 resolution. This is easily the best 9.99 I've spent in months. That is until I partner it with the original Shogun.

Simplistic, fun and scratches that make a lot of money and spend a lot of money to make more money itch. I love the fact that there are two companie to sell to whose prices fluctuate. It really makes you weigh the options when deciding to store or sell oil.
Pros:
-Decent number of upgrades
-Good, addicting gameplay that is simplistic yet, becomes more and more challenging while still remaining rewarding several hours in.
-Soothing guitar music that fits nicely with the aesthetic and presentation of the game.
-Could easily translate onto mobile devices (not sure if you guys are planning that)

Cons:
-Soothing music loops so after several decent hours of play, you just want to mute it and put something else on.
-Game needs more content (DLC would be fine considering the cheap price of the initial product). *Game is still early access so this might change very soon.

All in all, good game that the devs have definitely put time and effort into creating and I can't wait to see the finished product!

Epic strategy game with simplistic economic mechanics but rewarding tactical combat play for those willing to experiment. Deep lore with a world that was very clearly, lovingly crafted. Incredibly balanced gameplay yet each faction feels like it has it's own unique fighting style. For example, I played as Dragonhold (small, elite faction with dragons) and fought a war against the massive Iron Barony (giant horde of orcs) yet managed to win because of several stunning victories where my ranged units outclassed the melee only Orc armies. My only complaint is that the economic side of things is simplified to upgrade the eco value of this province and now you make more money rather than giving you specific buildings to build or technological improvements like similar 4x Turn-Based games. All in all, one of the best Strategy games I've ever played from Slitherine/Matrix games!

Full Review
You know how good of a feeling you get one an early access game finally releases and it's better than what you initially expect? Well, this is a prime example. Darkest Dungeon is a side-scrolling turn-based dungeon-crawling RPG where you take a small team of 4 into increasingly difficult dungeons trying to save your Family's Estate. You'll face both physical challenges involving zombies, hellbeasts and bandits yet you'll also have to conquer mental challenges such as fear, insanity and death from stress. This game puts a huge emphasis on the terrifying nature of exploring the dungeons, where games like Diablo show your adventurer as a fearless battletank, the characters you get in Darkest Dungeon are individuals who will eventually become broken by traits like masochism or other mental illnesses. Don't worry though, there are ways to allow your characters to rest, whether it be the brothel, drowning sorrows in the tavern or repenting in the church... after all, everything can be forgotten for a price. It should also be mentioned that players can level up, gain skills and become incredibly powerful but like other Rogue-likes, death is permanent and focusing too much on one hero can lead to the death of all the others.

Gameplay aside, you've also got an epic gothic/comic artstyle that really brings this game to life and further immerses you in the world. I can't help but think back to the dark and dank of the original Diablos while playing this game.
Also, the narrator in this game is disturbingly amazing. Seriously, pay that guy more to do more lines because he undoubtedly deserves it and more. It's like if the Bastion narrator lost his mind and merged with a demon or something. Freaking epic.

In summary, this game is great. One of the better indie games of the year and I'm glad to see it has finally released. One final word of advice, don't be afraid of restarting a few times. You'll probably need to.

Early Access Review
Dark, dank, a badass narrator, epic soundtrack and the keys to my heart. Losing heroes has never proven so gloriously fun. Where in X-COM the game would showcase the achievements and build a connection with you and your soldiers, Darkest Dungeon seeks to make you cautious of forming that connection. After all, insanity is just around the corner for those who delve into the dungeons without a light. If you haven't played this game, you owe it to yourself to. Absolutely phenomenal.

Release Day Review:
So they fixed what was wrong in the early access, which is definitely a good thing. They cleaned up the UI a bit and fixed a plethora of bugs and glitches. However, there still just isn't enough here to justify 20 dollars. When I first joined early access with this game, I was expecting something much... more. The 2 things that make this game stand out is the Military Industrial Complex (which is how you build your military ships) and the media-focused Diplomacy system (essentially by using the media, you control how your population views another faction) which again are both really cool features. Everything else is kind of watered down as far as 4X Turn-based strategy games go. I still recommend the game for people unfamiliar with the genre because it's very easy to pick up but for anyone who has played SotS, GalCiv, or Sins, then you've pretty much tread this territory before.

Early Access Review:
"The usual 4X Strategy game. Similar to GalCiv or MOO yet with less personality. However, what it lacks in aesthetic, it makes up for in functionality and straightforwardness. For example, it ignores the technobabble of say... Sword of the Stars and tells you exactly what building something does. The Military Industrial Complex is a cool idea too... but you know what the best part is? Space Frogs. You can play as Space Frogs. The universe is my pond and my enemies are but flies!"

There is a lot of cool stuff about Massive Chalice. For example, the family system; being able to marry off heroes from differing families to create different classes and even more powerful heroes makes for an interesting time... be careful though, you might end up with a single bloodline of only Hunters if you're not careful. It's also pretty cool to watch the lives of your heroes from the day they are born, to the day they go to jail, to the day they die... be prepared, however, you're going to see a lot of birth and death in this game.To add on, beautiful graphics, great voice acting from the two advisors within the chalice itself and a hypnotic and somber soundtrack that really immerses you in this soon to be destroyed world. Then there is the badstuff... well, the bad thing, really.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eq1jKGaTaWc

That being, the combat system. Combat in the game can pretty much boil down to a couple of different enemy types that if allowed to close in, will absolutely ravage your heroes. While this isn't a bad thing, the combat itself is just tedious... and fighting battles isn't half as interesting as what's going on during your forays on the Campaign Map. Truly, I'd be okay with just autoresolving the battles so I can delve further into the lives of my short-lived heroes rather than manually fight every single battle against the Cadence.

All in all, I definitely recommend this game. For 20 bucks? I'd say that's a damn good price.

A fun mix between Nexus: The Jupiter Incident and Flotilla where you go mission to mission manuveuring battleships and frigates in space while trying to outsmart your enemies. Holds your hand enough for you to learn the basics of the game yet isn't afraid to throw you in the fire after a few missions. Features a skill tree full of passive bonuses which boost your fleet's effectiveness, a decent selection of different ships, different factions with different strategies to fight against and a story that actually becomes more interesting the further you go. I actually love the fact that ships can actually Ram against opposing ships assuming your guns just aren't enough. Definitely a recommendation in my book.

Oh my goodness... A roguelike with great music similar to Rare's N64 stuff, addicting gameplay like SotS: The Pit, a decent level of exploration and curiousity with an indepth skill tree and crafting system? And... for only five bucks? I'm in love! (Seriously, this game is freaking amazing and everyone owes themselves the pleasure of playing this game). So yeah, go buy it fellow steam perusers.
