Hey there, I received this key for free for review but that had no impact on my review.

Pros:

  • The game had great management aspects.
  • The game has enough content to keep you entertained for hours.
  • The game had good graphics and still-frames.

Cons:

  • The only major con for me was that the English was downright terrible, but you got the gist of what the characters were saying and understood it enough to play the game. This can also be fixed by hiring a better translator and patching it.

Early Access Review

Intro

Survive Me Miolhr is a RPG based on a zombie theme. It has graphics reminiscent of Nintendo DS Pokemon games, a slightly confusing sound, and gameplay that is just too confusing to make sense of.

Graphics

The graphics for this game are fine and I actually like them. However the graphics are hindered significantly by a cluttered HUD (Heads-up Display) and side menus that just take up the whole screen. It’s to the point where the user cannot even see the graphics, let alone enjoy them.

Sound

The sound is decent, it’s nothing special. The only issue I really had with the sound is that there was this an annoying barking noise that seemed to be part of the soundtrack and it only served to irritate me to the highest degree.

Gameplay

The gameplay is the weakest part of this game. It’s absolutely horrendous and atrocious to put it mildly. Basically, the game throws a storyline and gameplay information at you that is so hard to make sense of. It tries to stuff two hours of plot and gameplay tutorials into two minutes and it just does not work.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

• The graphics are really cool and brought back nostalgia of Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver on the Nintendo DS.
• The soundtrack isn’t too bad apart from the barking noise I described earlier.
• The story has a lot of potential.

Cons:

• The screen is too cluttered by text and menus.
• The barking noise is extremely annoying.
• The gameplay is near non-existent because it’s so hard to understand.

Overall Thoughts

This game is a disaster, just don’t even mess with it right now. However, in fairness, it is in Early Access and is self-admitting when it comes to the fact that it is far from a complete product. It has a ton of potential, it’s just up to the Developers on whether they want to make a proper foundation for that potential to flourish and blossom. As of right now, that potential is not being utilized properly.

Intro

The Ables: Freepoint High is a side-scroller beat’em up platformer that is defined by its’ retro 90’s-esque 3-D graphics, pulsing soundtrack, and wide variety of powers on display in its’ gameplay.

Graphics

The graphics are reminiscent of 2.5D platformer. It moves in 2-D like many platformers do (in which you move to the left and right). However, the graphics themselves are of a 3-D nature, your character and the environment are 3-D.

Sound

Oh man! This is where the game really shines. When you hear the music pumping through when you hit the title screen, it really provides such an engrossing and energetic atmosphere that will just snatch you up and put in the rhetorical cockpit of the game.

Gameplay

The gameplay is pretty straightforward, in the introductory level, all the different powers that will be at your disposal are on display for you to use in the level. This first level is complete with platform jumping, enemy bashing, and even a boss encounter that exudes a thrilling experience. After this level is completed, you go on to choose which levels you go on to next. You choose the next level by choosing which of your gifted peers you want to save next.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

• Cool 2.5D Graphics that are different than many platformers out there on Steam.
• A great soundtrack that you actually want to listen to while you are playing
• A wide variety of powers that lets people choose the way they want to play the game.

Cons:

• After beating the initial level, you only have access to 3 of the 7 levels, because the other 4 are still in development.
• Can be a tad glitchy at times, it will not affect your gaming experience at all, but nonetheless, it is noticeable.
• Controls may need to be reminded, the default keyboard mapping will not work for everybody.

Overall Thoughts

This is a solid early-access game that is exactly as advertised and has much potential for the future. I would wait on purchasing though for right now until all of the game’s levels have been implemented so you get a complete game. These developers have been motivated and dependable though, so I doubt that won’t take much longer to happen.

This is actually a great little game with a nice premise - you play as an "afterthought" character through several different "chapters" which are self-contained run-of-the-mill RPG stories where you play a different role/character every time. I think it's a great twist on the JRPG RPG-Maker games we all know and love. If you enjoy RPG-Maker games, this game is perfect for you. If you're not a fan of JRPGs, I don't think this will be your cup of tea. Overall, it's a solid game that does a great job of what is trying to accomplish and does it well.

Great little JRPG that lets me live out my fantasies of rescuing my imaginary girlfriend. In all seriousness, jrpg gameplay is very well done. Just because it's RPG Maker doesn't make it bad. RPG Maker is just a game engine, what the developers do with it is what matters, and as far as this game goes, they've knock it out of the park.

Intro

Plastiland is a side-scroller puzzle-platformer that combines creative clay graphics, playful bouncy music, and a challenging yet open level design to deliver an engaging experience that will surely captivate puzzle-platformer enthusiasts.

Graphics

The graphics are akin to a sort of clay animation like you’d see in Wallace and Gromit. That’s where the comparison ends though, where Wallace and Gromit may appear as bleak and bland in terms of the colors, Plastiland’s colors are bright, cheery, optimistic, varied, and heavily contrasting. I thoroughly enjoyed the graphics, it was a trip down memory lane yet a refreshing experience that diverges from the graphics in many puzzle-platformers on Steam today.

Sound

The sound is pretty cool to me, it was probably the biggest surprise of the entire game to me. The music is fun and playful – reminds me of the type of music you would hear at a state fair. It definitely adds to the overall atmosphere of the game. The sound effects are another strong suit and happen to fairly accurate. For example, if you let one of your spheres hit the ground, you hear a “SPLAT!” and it correctly corresponds to the splat that you see on the screen.

Gameplay

The gameplay is fairly straightforward. The player must guide a finite amount of spherical creatures that are constantly moving from Point A (A Green Pipe) to Point B (A Red Pipe). The player controls these spherical creatures by changing them into a variety of forms in order to get them past a variety of obstacles in the level.

There are eight forms to be exact. The first form is the Roller, which is the main character. The second form is the Bomber, which disrupts and explodes in the environment after 3 seconds. The third form is the Crusher, which makes a vertical passage. The fourth form is the Crawler, which can crawl up on any wall. The fifth form is the Blocker, stop any other ball. The sixth form is the Builder, which expands to make a passage. The seventh form is the Chewer, which makes a horizontal passage. The eighth form is the Jumper, which can fall from any height. The player starts with a limited number of uses for each form. Each use allows the player to change one sphere into that specific form. The number of uses for each form varies and changes depending on the level which is where part of the challenge comes in. You have to make lemons out of lemonade.

The gameplay requires you to think outside of the box and repeat levels constantly.

The final note that I would add for the gameplay would be that beating levels is sort of similar to the ultra-popular mobile game “Cut the Rope” – the more spheres you get in the red pipe, the higher number of stars you will receive upon the completion of the level. You can receive anywhere from 1, 2, or 3 stars upon completion of a level.

Overall Thoughts

This is a great little under-the-radar game as far as I am concerned. It’s a puzzle-platformer that does its job well. It’s fairly original when compared to many puzzle-platformers, you’re not going to find that repetitive 8-bit or 16-bit retro aesthetic that seems to be all the rage on Steam these days. However, you are going to get a cheerful, optimistic atmosphere that is highlighted by a rich, warm soundtrack that permeates through your side-scrolling form-changing gameplay.

I absolutely love One Finger Death Punch. Best thing is it's so easy to pick and play any time you want, and can come back to anytime you want. So simple yet so fun. Definitely pick it up, especially for the price, it's a great deal.
