Early Access Review
Has potential but not ready for prime time.

The base engine and mechanics of the game feel good so far. But it's far from being a $30 game in my opinion. It still needs more time in the oven. Like I feel the pacing is off, I basically have the game timer in 4x mode all the time and often seem to still be just waiting for things to happen.

It can also be very hard to figure out if there is an issue. Like suddenly at one point none of my buildings were being built. I had free workers, the resources were already on the plots and nothing happened. I had to free up more workers then all of sudden everything started happening again. But there was no warning of information saying why construction was blocked. I had to guess and just go by trial and error to fix the issue.

Also, it can be be hard to identify work buildings because they mostly just residential buildings. So I would often just have to click on several houses to find my butcher, or blacksmith.

That said though everything is fixable, and the core feels good. It needs better tutorials, more visual assets (make houses look different based on their function), balancing, etc etc. So I am hopeful for the final release.

I would recommend this if you like a more casual random game. There are some strats too it, but in general it comes down to gambling, do you get more upgrades than everyone else. Do you get get units you need for you alliance, etc. It seems that every game the deck is saturated with one or two cards and people get 3 stars of that very quickly (before round 10 sometimes). So you have to guess what card that might be from round one and hope you get it right.

Spiritual successor to Limbo, and they are now two of my fav games I have ever played. Great stuff.

EDIT: After finishing the first episode the game is great if you can get past the bugs. Really enjoyed the first episode, and hope all the bugs get ironed out for the next episode. I change my recommendation to yes. If you can get past the bugs the gameplay and story are worth the effort. Or wait a week or two for the bug fixes.

I thought people might be exaggerating about the bugs, but this is pretty bad.

1. I had a problem when setting up the resolution. When I set it to my native resolution it switched fine, but the mouse pointer was confined to the top left quarter of the screen. I had to run the game at a lower resolution for it to work.

2. The graphics look pretty poor compared to the Michone game I just finished playing last week. Probably to do with the resolution issue, but I also do not see anyway to turn up quality either.

3. BIG ONE: I played for about thrity minutes. Was enjoying it, getting into everything. Then looked at the Codex in the Batcave and now I can not exit out of the Codex. There is no way to back out of it.

It's crazy how many bugs I have read about, and now experienced several already in the first 30 minutes. How did this get out of BETA?

WAIT FOR FIXES. This looks like it will be good when it works.

Having been a long time fan of the franchise and reading some of the inital reviews from "professional" reviewers I was excited and broke my rule of not buying full price games when they just come out. That feels like a bit of a mistake now.

While I enjoyed the story and had fun playing the game I completed it on normal difficulty in under eight hours. That was taking my time too, I was a little too cautious on several missions which in hindsight I could have beat with a small force. Once you got a decent fleet put together you can own everything pretty easily.

For $50 I just feel like there is not enough meat here to justify that cost. I would recommend this game at $20-$25 but it is not up to the standards of most of the other games you can get in this price range.

For me to recommend it at $50 I would like to see a much more envolved campaign more, different more challenging missions. More of a flushed out story, while I enjoyed the general story line it feels like the cliff notes version and could do with having more details flushed out.
