This first point is the biggest reason I am giving this game the thumbs down. If you are an "Explorer" type gamer you will not have fun with this game. The enemies are zoned and each zone has a level range to it. So zone 1 has enemies lv 1-5 and zone 2 could be lv 50-70 and they could be right next to each other. This means you can't just pick a direction and explore. You have to go to the zones that are in your level range or you will just find bullet sponges. And there is no indication on your map where these zones are set up. I hate having to play a linear game. I get Bethesda games so I can say "To hell with the main quest lets just go east and see what I find." That is not possible anymore.

Point 2. You can't play as YOUR character anymore either. You are a person with a backstory, a voice, and a child to rescue. Why bother with a character creator and giving name options if Bethesda just wants you to be this person.

Point 3. You have to use VATS. This was optional in F3 and New Vegas. I hate using VATS. Many animal enemies like the damn giant misquitos have such small hit boxes, move so damn fast, or burrow underground that you can't target manually. Just go for turn based combat or quick time events at this point if you dont want me to interact during a fight.

Point 4. The city builder has no tutorial. Took me 18 hours to figure out how to connect power lines to objects that need them.

Point 5. Your dialogue choses are Yes, No, Sarcastic, and Huh?. No explaination of what you will actually say though. Will sarcastic come off as an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ or as a joker? Is it any better than just saying yes or no?

Point 6. It is actually possible to have a bad character build. This goes back to Points 1 & 2 really. Basically if you do not play as a high damage (weapon mod perks) tank (Armor perks) then you're going to die. Not just, oh combat is a bit harder but I can do this other stuff really well, you will just not get anywhere because of the Zoning of point 1.

I got the pip boy edition because I was a fan of the previous games. I feel cheated. This is not the game I paid for.

I have 400 hrs of playtime on this game BECAUSE OF FREE MODS!! The base game is a generic fantasy. Without the mods, this game is boring after 10 hours of play. Bethesda and Valve putting the communtiy mad mods behind a paywall, essentially making them DLC, is beyond atrotious.

For over 30 years the modding community has shared and worked together to improve and expand on their favorite games, not just Skyrim. Now we have a civil war breaking out. No one wants to collaborate. Now that money has entered the picture they are fighting over IP rights, what percentage of the cash should go to each team member, and the least ethical ones are uploading the work of others to make a quick buck.

Do not buy this game, do not support these practices. That means do not buy any more Valve or Bethesda games. They will only change if you hit them in the wallet.
