I wanted to like this game because I'm a fan of the Castlevania games that Koji produced. And the similarities are all there in core mechanics, enemy types, etc. Except how responsive the game is. It feels like playing a castlevania game with a controller covered in sludge. Combat is very slow and unresponsive, too much emphasis is placed on your characters attack animations and not on snappy quick responses. Which sucks because the enemies certainly don't feel slower. I don't know what they were thinking when they made it this way but it doesn't feel fun to play.

Edit: Oddly enough Zangetsu doesn't have this issue. But you don't get the full experience of the game by playing as him. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A 3 person party metroidvania rpg where every monster you obtain has its own unique skill tree. I had tons of fun figuring out how to combo together unique monster abilities. A lot of people compare this to Pokemon, but the battle system in this game is so much more detailed and in depth than Pokemon that its not even fair.

Battling random monsters in the world is typically super easy, but other monster trainers frequently present difficulty spikes that have you reconsidering your party composition.

Hatching new monsters always puts them near your party's max level so you never really have to grind out levels. If any monster you want to use falls behind in levels the game also gives you plenty of level-up badges to boost them up. If you ever want to re-roll your monsters skill tree you also get tons of free skill-resets. I never felt like I had to grind out levels or wade through tons of repetitive battles like I did in other similar games.

PS. You can speed up the battle animations in the settings, which helps keep battles feeling snappy and quick.

I thought this game was buggy as hell before I played Darksiders II. Turns out this game is near perfect by comparison. If you have a high refresh rate monitor you will have to cap your framerate on this game otherwise the camera will glitch the ♥♥♥♥ out.

Outside of the minor bugs, this is a solid hack n slash dungeon crawler. Its a mix between Zelda, God of War, Metroid Prime, and Devil May Cry. Really solid combat and fun bosses. A bit too easy though, I would suggest playing at the harder difficulty from the start.

I don't know if this game runs better on console or not, but its buggy as hell on PC. Great game, but you might want to play it on console because its buggy as hell on PC and you will be googling for solutions to problems all the time.

I encountered a bug that prevented me from doing anything so often I had to constantly save the game, quit to menu, and reload. Probably did this 1-2 times per every hour I've played.

Alt tabbing straight up crashes the game. The game just randomly crashes sometimes too.

You have to lock your framerate to 100 or lower because the game gets glitchy as hell above that, even though it lets you go that high.

I encountered a bug at the start of the game that prevented me from climbing walls, I can't even remember how I fixed that.

You need to download the beta patch just to get past a conversation with some dude because the game crashes afterwards and doesn't save your progress.

And then there's at least a dozen more minor bugs I can't even remember as well.

----

Apart from all the bugs this is a pretty solid dungeon crawler with lots of loot. The first half of this game has twice as many dungeons as the previous game, easily. Though once you get to the last 2 areas, you can see they looked like they were running low on budget and had to rush the ending. I think all 4 areas were probably supposed to be of equal length and size, but only the first two areas were fully fleshed out. So once you get past those you get to the ending very quickly.

The loot is like Diablo, where every item has a random set of stats and buffs. Some special sets of weapons and armor are scattered throughout with unique abilities tied to them. Combat is very close to the first game but more rpg'y because of the loot.

They took the first game and were like "lets make this 100x grindier and charge real world money to make it less grindy". Don't even bother with this game, its trash.

One of the best colony management/base building games ever made. With a huge and amazing modding scene. If you like this genre of game then this is a must have!

This game appears very incomplete and doesn't give you enough information to really make it a 'game' or even a 'sandbox' you can have fun with.

But ignore that for a second because I have something much weirder to say. When I was playing I noticed small little lights at the bottom of the floor. Flying in as closely as possible allowed me to read some of them. They were all random signs that were a combination of what appeared to be: developer notes, feedback to the developer, suggested changes to the game, feedback of the developer as a person, random character strings, notes about feedback received about the game. It was very surreal going around reading them. As if the developer left them there like some kind of diary, and this was likely a homework assignment for a programming class. They also seem to come and go at random. Here's a few examples of what I found:

"Your implementation is very lackluster"
"There were feelings that these guys need goals"
"The graphs do a nice job of helping with this, you can see the signals of a population crash before it is too late"
"We had a whole new cohort test the system today, it didn't go well"
"OKJY DEFW VOAH TMNR FVDX BCFJ GTFM THXQ IHTP DJCZ DKSH JIGG JNJH"
"Some have been getting very hostile about it so it is probably easier just to add mouse controls"
"Despite all the creativity and effort it doesn't look promising at all"
"Walzenlage ♥♥♥"

I'm guessing most of these are just random things to throw you off the scent of one of the achievements which is some kind of code you need to figure out and decipher (hence the random strings of characters). I think finding these and cracking the code is probably far more interesting than the game itself.
